How to unlock the Bearly Legal achievement in Red Dead Redemption - Definitive Guide

The place is Tall Trees. Once you see snow on the ground start roaming around on foot that way the bears won't kill your horse if they attack you. It will only take two hits from the bear to kill Marston but one to kill your horse. A good place is bearclaw camp. set yourself up on a rock or building or even a cart.

I recommend using the Buffalo rifle (level 5 hunter challenge required to purchase.) Use dead eye and hit it right in the face, it will go down in one hit. Alternatively a semi-auto shotgun works well or any fast firing repeater. I was able to get this in only two trips. At times the amount of bears and boars I was encountering was overwhelming so you will want to set up a campsite from your provisions menu (back button on 360 controller) that way you can save so you don't lose your progress if you die. SAVE OFTEN! Happy hunting

people can track both the number of bears they've killed (miscellaneous stats) and skinned (under collectibles). thank you to The Major Gm for this helpful tip.

One of the most fun cheevs in the game, IMO. I ran around with the semi-auto shotty blasting on bears for about an hour. Dangerous animals when you dont see them coming, and lots of cover for them to bust out of. I felt way more in danger than on any missions. Good clean fun!

I was one or two away from this cheevo when one of the aformentioned gangs of three bears ambushed me. I died, resetting my count to what it was at last save...I recommend you save every two or three kills/skins to avoid the heartbreak I just endured!

Hunting bears as minor as it was to the game was some of the most fun I had. Stand up from skinning one and start trotting to find more, only to hear the soft "huff huff huff" moist breath of another one (or more) running right behind me. I learned quick to zig and zag to get the angle instead of stopping to turn and look!

~~### SPOILER ###~~

Has anyone else seen John watching you hunt? I always smiled when Jack say 'Just like you taught me, pa' as he's skinning, but today.. I was skinning a bear, he said the line, and behind me (during the skinning animation) there was a figure standing about seventy yards away under a tree. I span around when the anim' finished, and started towards him, but by the time I'd taken six steps he'd vanished.. (Like the Peach/Bowser portrait in Mario 64!!)

It has officially creeped me out. Has anyone else had this experience? I'd love to know if anyone's had the quick wits to scope in on him? I'm 90% sure it was Father, and if it wasn't, why did he fade away as I approached? I've got to get some closure on this..

Just got this. I used the Evans repeater and a lot of deadeye. The best strategy i have if you cant find an elevated platform to strand on is ride around and look for the 2-3 large open areas in and around Tall Trees and stay on your horse while you ride around in a circle. I found that the more bears I killed, the more were attracted to the area. I would skin 2-3 at a time then have to re-clear the area of bears. I never had to leave Tall Trees to get them to respawn, they would do that on their own, and they really loved to appear during the random encounters I ran into. I would also suggest turning your volume up, the grizzly bears have a very distinct pant and growl you can hear from far enough away to save yourself, as well as significantly heavier sounding footsteps/gallops

Acquire one of the taller horse carts. Bears (and everything else) won't attack you or the horses while you're on the cart. It's slow riding when you're off the road, but if you wait in the Tall Trees long enough, you'll see bears, big horn, elk and everything else you may need. Just ride the cart up to the dead animal, hop off the cart to skin the animal then quickly hop back on.

I brought a stagecoach up to Tall Trees; the bears were actually running away from me. I had to Dead Eye them with the Buffalo Rifle before they got out of sight (the stagecoach isn't the most maneuverable vehicle in the forest). I was so used to being mauled by ninja grizzlies earlier in the game, when I went up to specifically hunt them for the achievement it was strange to see them running from me.

Forgot to mention it helps to use bait, then jump onto the stagecoach. You'll be safe and might get a bear to show up.

i went to Cochinay a little above the y on the map north of the bridge. Soon as I got there a bear was there killed the bear and seconds after another bear spawns and I did it for all 18 bears.

I almost did it using this method - However I was attacked by a bear that appears out of no where while i was skinning. End up getting trapped under the stagecoach with no where to hide ...

This worked perfectly for me. One of those four horse transport stagecoaches gave me protection, and I used the sniper rifle to headshot all the bears for one of the challenges while I was at it. Just pull up to the bear, driver side ideally, and hop off and hop back on after scouting to make sure it's clear. I killed and skinned about 20 bears this way with only one "bear out of nowhere" surprise, and he was only able to land one hit since I got back on the coach so fast.

Also another quick note, once you've skinned all the bears, if you're still missing a few dollars for the 'More than a fistful achievement' for earning at least $10,000, sell all the bear pelts, teeth etc. in Escalera rather than Blackwater. There is a significant rise in selling price in mexico, you should get a massive amount of cash for selling them there.

Okay this one is pretty simple, once you have gained access to 'The North' in the Third Act, you will want to ride to Tall Trees located West of Blackwater, Great Plains and Beecher's Hope (which is the Marston family farm.) By this stage in the game you will likely have a weapon which can easily deal with the bears, I used the Henry Repeater as it has 12 shots and is powerful enough to kill a bear in two shots, take plenty of ammo. Zoom in to Tall Trees on your map and place a waypoint on (believe it or not...) the bear!

- I never found a bear at night so start the hunt in the day.
- STAY on your horse for an easy getaway if necessary.
- After every 1 or 2 kill & skins use your campfire and save!
- Save 2 or 3 times so the game clock rotates to daytime again.
- Don't forget you're Dead Eye!

Good luck and enjoy the whopping 5G

Any of the above mentioned locations are good ones. My best spot for this was in the woods just outside the dock at Aurora Basin.

I stayed in the same little area and the bears came at me, one at a time, after I finished skinning the last.

The weapon I used was the Throwing Knife, which WILL one-shot a bear in the head.

TIP: I used the Throwing Knives on all the "special hunt" animals and one-shotted all of them as well with the exception of the boar, which required three knives.

go to the most northern point on the map above tall trees. its a good place to kill beavers as well. a bear will appear shortly. kill it and hang out. The bears are attracted to the dead bears. make sure you have plenty of ammo and shoot the in the head for quicker kills. Dont worry about skinning them right away because more will appear and grab you. Got this achievement in under & mins just hanging out.

The fastest way to get this achievement is to look at the map and right where it says Tall Trees there is a grouping of rocks to the immediate left, when you arrive you find it is a small cliff. Get ready, this is where the bears seem to spawn exactly as I was able to get all 18 in this one area alone.

Be aware however as they do spawn here when you get off your horse to skin them more are coming and they will come up to 2 at a time so be quick and be prepared to die a couple of times as you will get ambushed.

A good idea is to save at Manzanita Post right before you go out so you can just respawn there if you happen to die and then use the campsite to save frequently after you get every 4 or 5 kills.

Good Huntin'

Just go to tall trees and find a bear and kill him before skinning him look around because there might be more of them after that just look around bears will spawn around you. If you get in trouble make a campsite. This worked for me so give it a try

I was able to get this achievement fairly easily by going to Tanner's Reach. Tanner's Reach is a deserted cabin in Tall Trees. The cabin is due west from a purchasable property at Manzanita Post. It is also south of Aurora Basin. When I first got to the cabin, there were multiple bears fighting some random NPC's. I killed the two bears and skinned them. After that, bears kept spawning. Spawn, kill, skin, repeat. Another bear seemed to spawn within 30 seconds of me killing and skinning a bear.

I was killed by two bears that spawned at some point and then went back and nothing spawned. I left and then came back again and then bears began to spawn in the surrounding area around Tanner's Reach again. They spawn in other areas around Tall Trees, but I had the most success with Tanner's Reach. I also purchased a semi-automatic shotgun in Escalera for $500 with high honor. 1-2 headshots with that weapon took out most bears.

Side note, I was also able to find and tame the American Standardbred horse near Tanner's Reach to finish the "Buckin' Awesome" achievement.

Grizzlies are one the least common animal and you will only find them in the The North. Before you attempt this you will want to stock up on ammo and save on a regular basis. You will find bears most commonly between Tanners Reach, Aurora Basin and Nekoti Rock.

Once you kill a bear check your surrounding as more often than not, another bear will come up behind you and kill you. Once you have killed a bear, run up to it and press to skin it. I suggest you kill several bears in a row, skin them and set up a camp site and save your progress. The last thing you want to happen is lose your large streak of bear kills and have to start over.

0
0

Once you get to the end of the game you will be able to hunt Bears in the Tall Trees area. The best spot I found was by Nekoti Rock. Bears can kill you in 2 hits so I recommend you use Dead Eye when up close, along with a shotgun. Bears also usually take one or two shots to kill. Be careful when skinning a bear because there might be more in the area, when you're skinning an animal you can't run away and can still get hurt. Skin 18 bears and the trophy is yours.

A convenient place for shooting bears, they spawn very well here.
I had 10 of them at a time, the main thing was not to run too far from this place.
