How to unlock the Fightin' Around the World achievement in Red Dead Redemption - Definitive Guide

7 saloons total, located in:

-Armadillo
-Thieves Landing
-Rathskeller Fork
-Escalera
-Chuparosa
-Casa Madrugada
-Blackwater

In each saloon, switch your weapon to fists and do that passive-aggressive thing where you kind of drunkenly stumble into an NPC until they fall over. They will get back up, but they won't be happy about it. Beat them unconscious with the right trigger and move on to the next saloon. Note that knockouts don't last very long in this game, and they'll stand up quite quickly, but that's okay. You don't need to beat them to death.

It's probably best to only fight one barfly at a time, if possible.

Edit from STLfan2468: Make sure to get the knockout INSIDE the bar, not just outside the doors, for it to count.

Edit from various comments: Make sure you save after you knock someone out in each saloon (if you die before getting an autosave, the KO won't count). You can quickly save by using one of the horse deeds from your inventory at any time.

I don't have an option to switch to fists as a weapon yet. Does that unlock as the game goes on? You'd think that would be available from the outset

Really? I don't remember not having the option. Well, if it unlocks, it unlocks pretty quickly (within the first five missions or so).

Needless to say, you'll have the ability to melee long before you see all of these saloons.

Make sure you fight in the saloon and not outside the saloon. I learned that the hard way.

It's not really that there are too many people in the saloon that's a problem for me. It's that people keep wandering into the saloon in the middle of the fight and joining in. I'm in the middle of a fistfight now and there's like eight people fighting me, and there were only four in the saloon when I started.

I started a fight and after knocking the guy down he got back up. Did this 3 more times and he still got back up. Do I just have to keep going until he stops getting up or is knocking them down enough?

Guys get back up after being KO'd pretty quick in this game. You don't have to beat him to death... three knockdowns is more than enough.

@Bogeygolf: I had the same issue, just go up the stairs and in your room, when you go down again, the saloon should be filled again.

Great solution really helped.!

This is attainable in the epilogue. Just pick a fight with someone who will fight back or someone who you can knock out inside before they get away. You don't need to be drunk to pop it. To make them quit attacking you after you knock them out just draw a gun, but don't fire. Then just hop in the stagecoach and travel to the next place without annoying people following you and punching you.

Oh, and if you can't get someone in the bar to fight you, lure someone inside who WILL fight back long enough for you to knock them out. I think I did that in blackwater.

I did NOT have to do this all in one session. I got Armadillo and Thieves Landing very early in the game, before even opening up Mexico. Later on I got Escalera, Chuparosa and Blackwater, before finishing the game. After I finished the game I went to Casa Madragada and as soon as I did it there I got the achievement. These were all days apart and certainly not the same session.

Make sure you SAVE after each one! I was on my third one and died so I checked my stats and it said 1 knockout only. You should have one knockout from the mission with that traveling salesman then just keep fighting in different ones till you get 8. Save in your properties after each one.

for whoever thinks it is too bad they didn't name this after Russell Crowe, they did. "Fightin Round the World," is the tv show the South Park kids watch one episode while waiting for a philip and terrance movie trailer to premiere. The show is hosted by Russell Crowe and it's hilarious.

Finnomenal, thanks for the info, HILARIOUS!

if you're having trouble with too many people fighting you, try to make your way to the bar and have a drink. When you are done drinking, I've noticed everyone's friendly again... drinking solves everything! (Also, if you leave the bar in Escalera, as soon as you leave the front door onto the wood deck, turn right and there is a small part of the wall/railing missing. Hit X to climb over and have a Neo-Matrix-like levetation down to the ground. I did it like 5 times in a row, it was pretty sweet.)

When you get to casa madrugada and nobodys there, lasso someone, bring them in and untie to fight them. but its a little time consuming cuz they keep running away. still, if u get the KO in the saloon, it counts

By FoxMcFly88 on 16 Jan 2011 04:21
OK, to the guy who is only pushing people, you have to target them (RT) first, then you will swing. Just like readying any other weapon.

Second, i can confirm that you DO NOT have to do these in one game sitting. I did Escalera, Chuparosa and Casa Madrugada in the afternoon, turned the game of and played another game with a friend, put RDR back in that evening and did the other 4 and it popped fine.

If anybody is having problems with more than one person fighting you, you can lasso and hogtie the other people until there is just one guy left

I tried doing this achievement in a single session and ended up having it pop after visiting 6 of the 7 saloons (leaving a bruised and bloody trail of bartenders and women along the way). Suppose this is one of those mysterious ones that will pop normally for some people but not for others. Used fast travel. No problems whatsoever.

One problem I had with two of the smaller towns' saloons: I arrived first in Casa Madrugada, only to find the town completely deserted, save for a religious man, wandering the town center. I tried saving, waiting the five day cycle, and even harassing the guy into the saloon, only to land a few punches and have him sprint away from the scene. In the end, I shot the religious man, and after a quick save, the town was teeming with lowlifes to brawl.

I also had this problem in Rathskeller Fork, one lone fellow who just didn't want anything to do with violence. I shot him as well, and had the town respawn in full vitality.

This is such a waste of time, just go up and start punching people. A great guide otherwise

It takes roughly 8-9 landed blows to knock someone out.

Be warned that as soon as you start fighting with one person, their friends will all jump in too. Try to pick out lone patrons to pick a fight with, but when out numbered just remember you can either try to bottleneck the group so that only one member is in range (behind the bar can work, as can corners and staircases at times), or kill the friends, as only one knock out is needed to tick off a saloon.

Another issue players might have is with patrons not looking for a fight. As soon as you hit them, they will attempt to run, and if you don't knock them out before they get out of the saloon, it doesn't count. If everyone in the saloon runs, leaving the place empty, just go outside and pick a fight, bringing the fight back inside. Characters aggressive to Marston will follow him when engaged in a fight, and as long as the knock out occurs inside the saloon, it counts.

Although fairly easy to knock out someone, if they start blocking, they are going to keep blocking until they see an opening. If your target starts blocking your punches, block until they throw one, then continue beating them up.

After equipping your fists in the weapon selection screen and readying your fists with LT, you can punch with RT, block by holding RB, or dodge in any direction by pressing X and moving in the direction.

There are 7 towns with saloons in them, and not all of them will be accessible until you have competed the second chapter.

In New Austin:
Armadillo
Rathskeller Fork
Thieves' Landing

In Nuevo Paraiso:
Casa Madrugada
Chuparosa
Escalera

In West Elizabeth
Blackwater

If you knock someone out, and consequently die, you lose that check, so as soon as you knock someone out, try to save (sleep) or quick-save (completing a random encounter, using a horse deed, etc.)

To do this, you must knock a person out in every bar in the game. First of all, in order to knock someone out, unequip your weapons, and just punch them until they fall onto the ground. Th bars are located in these places:
New Austin
-Armadillo
-Rathskeller Fork
-Thieve's Landing
Nuevo Paraiso
-Casa Madrugada
-Chuparosa
-Escalera
West Elizabeth
-Blackwater

Cheers!

There are 7 saloons in the game in which you need to knock someone out. In terms of saving the most time (travelling manually) or money (using a stagecoach), here's my recommended order:

Blackwater
Thieves' Landing
Armadillo
Rathskeller Fork
Escalera
Chuparosa
Casa Madrugada

I found the easiest tactic was to simply target the barman. Nobody jumps in to help him, and you can usually block his exit at the bar. He does always try to run but as long as you time your punches correctly, he's not going anywhere.

If you target someone with a hat, you can tell they've been KO'd because their hat flies off before they fall over. You're free to leave the bar as soon as the hat flies - they're on their way down.

If you can't find anyone inside the bar who looks like an easy target (I assume the barman has got away), you can try going into the street and hitting someone once before running back to the bar and hoping they follow you. I did this in Armadillo because it was full of Walton's Gang, and they're to be avoided.

Always make sure to sleep/save before moving on to the next town as you never know what might be waiting when you get to the next place. This is easily done when you have completed the game and own all the properties, many of which are located inside the bar itself.

There are seven saloons throughout the various towns. Once you enter a saloon equip your fists by holding the and selecting fist with the . Once inside, pick a fight with whomever and knock them out. Do this in all seven saloons and the achievement will unlock.

You will find a saloon in the following locations:

  • Armadillo
  • Thieves' Landing
  • Rathskeller Fork
  • Escalera
  • Chuparosa
  • Casa Madrugada
  • Blackwater

Map of saloon locations

Note: Make sure you're inside the saloon fully. If you knock someone out just outside or in the doorway you won't be credited for the knock out. The best way to make sure this achievement unlocks is to locate the bar and stay close to it.

There are a total of 7 saloons in the game and you can fight anyone as long as it's inside the saloon. Make sure you knock someone out a few times just to make sure you've done it correctly. Equip your fists with , lock onto an enemy with and swing with . Keep swinging until you've knocked them out cold onto the floor, if others decide to interfere then don't hesitate to KO them as well. The 7 saloon locations are:

  • Armadillo - Located in New Austin.
  • Rathskeller Fork - Located in New Austin.
  • Thieves' Landing - Located in New Austin.
  • Escalera - Located in Mexico.
  • Chuparosa - Located in Mexico.
  • Casa Madrugada - Located in Mexico.
  • Blackwater - Located in West Elizabeth.

Note: For the saloon in Thieves' Landing it is recommended to use a gang outfit, this is because the community will be hostile towards you and shoot you on sight if you have a high Honor level. Just wear a gang outfit or bandanna then the community will let you fight it out.

For the trophy you need to beat up a saloon goer or bartender, he must fall to the floor, then it counts, you can use “Camp” to quickly move between cities

Saloons are located in:
Armadillo
Rathskeller Fork
Robbers' Landing
Blackwater
Escalera
