Find and kill a sasquatch.

How to unlock the Six Years In The Making achievement in Red Dead Redemption - Definitive Guide

To get this achievement you need to start the mission The Start of the Conservation Movement in Tanners Reach (Tall Trees, marked with a question mark). A crazy man will give you a circle on your map that tells you where to find one of these creatures. Shoot it a couple of times and you have yourself an achievement.

If you want to know what to look for the creatures are large and fairly ape-like.

This achievement is a reference to GTA San Andreas released in 2004, 6 years before Red Dead Redemption. There was a rumor that there was a sasquatch somewhere in the desert but of course there was no sasquatch to be found.

Update: The achievement has had trouble unlocking for people but the website shows many recent winners so the achievement is likely fixed. See the comments for any new developments.

I remember the sasquatch myth developing more through the trolling of fans rather than Rockstar.

There is an other mission (with a ? on the map) when you have to kill sasquatchs. At Tanner's Reach too, a survivor tells you his daughter has been killed by a sasquatch. He ask you to kill 6 of them and send you near Aurora Basin (at north of Tanner's Reach).

I'm sorry but that is incorrect. It's not "another mission", you just described the start of the conservation movement.

I shot the first 3 sasquatch for the mission on the Xbox One and no achievement. The game automatically saved every time I killed one so I ended my game mid mission. I fired it up on the Xbox 360 and the first sasquatch I killed (4th for the mission) popped immediately. Hope this helps anyone who can't get the achievement to pop.

It’s not glitchy exclusively on XB1, just killed one on 360 and it didn’t pop.

Oof.... Should have read this prior to doing the mission. I noticed the zombies were weird and shooting at me with no heads or arms. Cheevo didn't pop after killing the hairy bastards. I guess I gotta so a quick start-over and get this unlocked before continuing with the normal playthrough

Not really no. The Start of the Conservation Movement is main story if I remember correctly. Otherwise you can just go to Tanner's Reach when you please.

You dont need a xbox 360 to fix the problem. If you noticed sometimes zombies spawn without head. That means game is glitching. So here is the steps: First you need to save your game in a safe zone/house so when you start a New game you wont loose your current progress. After that hit start button under game section choose New game. Now all you have to do is first quest then it will show up on your map as a question mark. Simply go there and take the quest. Now before killing a sasquatch just make sure game is not glitching. If you are not simply go to 1st location and kill it. It will unlock immediately. :)

Sasquatches can be found in Tall Trees, and their areas will be marked by starting the "The Birth of the Conservation Movement" stranger mission to the south of Tall Trees.

Sasquatches can be found in the Tall Trees area after starting the side mission called "Birth of the Conservation Movement" where you will be tasked with killing 6 Sasquatches. Go to the Tall Trees area of the map and enter the spot that is marked by a green question mark, which will then change to a large green circle if a Sasquatch is nearby. These creatures will usually run away from you but at least one shot close range will kill him and pop the trophy.

You don't have to kill all 6 Sasquatches, since you will be given the option to either kill or ignore the final one.
