How to unlock the Welcoming Committee achievement in Red Faction: Guerrilla - Definitive Guide
Although it is true that you can't get around doing this one, it's a good place to start off and grab some salvage.
The tutorial mission involves you breaking into a lab area and demolishing two structures while collecting some salvage and then returning to your brother.
At this stage of the game there is nothing you can do to kill yourself. You can place remote charges by your feet and detonate them to your heart's content without worrying about dying. It also will not matter if you happen to drop a building on yourself.
The tutorial gives you a great place to practice with the physics of the game. A big thing to try and do is to drop the tower into the lab itself, which will destroy both targets with minimum effort. If you do not succeed, don't worry about it and just take down the rest with your hammer or remote charges.
One semi-important thing to do in this area though is to try and collect 25 pieces of salvage. If you do so, you will be able to purchase the vehicle upgrade as soon as you finish the tutorial which will be invaluable for salvage collection on the move as you play further through the game.
I managed to get 60 pieces of salvage in the tutorial by taking down everything I could see, but I have a feeling you could get more by being more thorough with your wreckage searching if you tried.
You can breeze through this quickly in just a couple of minutes if you are in a hurry, or you can spend 20 minutes like a real scavenger and come out a bit richer.
Even though you can't die - you can still fail this mission if you decide to try and kill your brother. Although not advisable, it is quite funny as the failure message is rather specific.
Sit back, watch the cutscene, and get playing the real game.

Amazing solution. Great job man. I can see the effort you put into it.

Story Related, Cannot be missed
This level acts as a tutorial so follow the prompts and read any messages that appear, you can close most of them by pressing . After the lengthy intro cutscene, you will be told to level the Laboratory complex that's in front of you. As you approach the burnt out truck near the wall, Dan will tell you to pick up the salvage that's next to it. After knocking a hole in the nearby wall, instead of following orders, we recommend flattening all the other buildings first, then the tower and finally the Lab. Doing it this way will give you some extra salvage to play with once the tutorial finishes.
After you've demolished the tower and the lab, Dan will say you are out of time and to return to him. Once the cutscene starts the trophy will pop. Do note that this part of the map becomes inaccessible after completing the Tutorial.
