How to unlock the Starve the Beast achievement in Redfall - Definitive Guide
There are TWO opportunities to obtain this per playthrough.
One is a side mission from the Sedgewick safe house in the Redfall Commons map, the other from the Haven’s Lot safe house in the Burial Point map.
Simply fend off the Blood bags by shooting them, I recommend an Auto Rifle for quick dispatching, you’ll probably encounter straggling cultists as well. You just have to kill everything before it reaches the vampire encased in the blood amber pod.
There are only two approach points for enemies in the first map, there are three in the second one, but the general direction is the same for both.
I personally had an easier time as Jacob because the crow highlighted enemies for me when I activated the skill. If you prefer having a co-op buddy for this, go for it! But it’s definitely doable solo as there’s few enemies.

@GrumpyYogi1968, it’s definitely possible solo when the game decides to work properly.
I also had this issue where nothing appeared after the first wave, I send my crow as Jacob in one particular direction and it highlighted a bunch of enemies too, but I got to kill them off because of that.
Best advice is to have a co-op buddy, maybe have them run circles around the outer perimeter to scout ahead and shoot what they can whilst you protect the pod.

My Burial Point solo method:
I was anxious about this one after failing the Redfall Commons metamorphis mission, but thought I'd try with the aim to exit to desktop if I failed.
The metamorphis mission is obtained from the Haven's Lot safehouse, located directly west of the Coast Guard Station from the main mission. The metamorphis location is southeast of the safehouse.
Method:
First of all, quit to main menu and change difficulty to Daylight - you can change this in settings but I backed out to make sure it was applied.
I'm playing as Layla. The metamorphis takes place next to a playground (not sure if this changes), I lift-jumped (or climbed) to the top of the lighthouse and used that as my vantage point.
Shortly after the bloodbags started spawning I used my Vampire Ex-Boyfriend skill, to which he killed around 4-5 bloodbags. After that I relied only on an assault rifle (the FAMAS "Perfectly Normal"). The fog is extremely annoying, but I relied on the sound of the bloodbags to locate them and start blasting - thankfully they talk a lot. Focus on the bloodbags first, then try to pick off the cultists.
Achievement popped after killing the vampire that breaks free of the crystal. It had low health, presumed due to the lack of feeding, so was an easy kill. I managed to do it first time in Burial Point (after failing Redfall Commons), maybe the improved skills and weapons helped.

This side quest is obtained in the Sedgewick safe house found in the Sedgewick neighborhood in the early stages of the game.
I found the best way to complete this is to use a UV weapon which will turn the Bloodbag vampires to stone so they don’t explode on the blood amber, then melee them to destroy them (you will earn the “You clean it up,” achievement for killing a blood bag before it explodes in the process if you already haven’t). If at any point you see the percentage go up, quickly quit to desktop/dashboard (PC / Xbox) which will place you back in the fire station with the quest not in your missions. You will need to fast travel back to the safe house and re-grab the mission, and try again. Cultists will also appear to fight, I suggest trying to ignore them as much as possible so you don’t have to switch weapons and accidentally miss a blood bag. Stay close to the blood amber circling it, listen for the blood bags as they approach to quickly find them, UV them to stone, then melee them.
Good luck!

Sedgewick safe house side quest "metamorphosis"
If you have a short fuse like me, have a friend help you, you will both get the achievement.
Ps:we also got quite lucky and only had human enemies show up, not a single bloodbag

Redfall Commons solution only.
This is for those dealing with absurdly difficult AI on easy difficulty (until a patch at least).
First, hope that the crystallis spawns somewhat across the street (in a front yard) rather than further down the street (over a wall and into the parking lot). If it doesn't, restart/dashboard and start the mission again. Next, hope that bloodbags don't spawn and simply deal with a few cultists (happens more than you'd think). Use a decent assault rifle but perhaps have a shotgun as a backup. The achievement pops after you kill the vampire.
Most are saying that the AI is too easy, which for me was only true during the first few hours of the game. While trying to do this achievement in particular, bloodbags would practically glide over in seconds and either insta-kill me or fail the conditions needed for the achievement. As for the rest of the game, I can only advance by avoiding enemies. I'm playing on easy, what a joke.

**MISSABLE**
The quest, "Metamorphosis" is a Safehouse Mission in Redfall. There are only 2 instances of this quest type in the game, meaning it's highly missable. If you fail on your first attempt, you get one more attempt before you'd have to redo it on another run. Yes, very annoying. The two regions this quest type crops up in are: Sedgewick in Redfall Commons; and Haven’s Lot in Burial Point.
But basically, the crux of this achievement is that you have to complete the defend part of this quest without any of the Bloodbags reaching the vampire. In co-op, this will no doubt be a breeze. Doing it solo though, you'll have to multitask. For Sedgewick, for instance, they come from two directions, so you'll need to bounce from left to right. Drop the difficulty if you're having issues, but make sure you go into the side quest with a fully maxed out special meter, so you can pop it if you're having a tough time.

If your attempt is unsuccessful, you should not kill the hatched vampire; you can force close the game and when you start it, it will give you the opportunity to take on the Metamorphosis quest again.
