How to unlock the This Ain't Even a Lake! achievement in Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs - Royal Edition - Definitive Guide

Typical stupid rng achievement, why again do stupid developers think this is fun?

This can be achieved at the pier doing the fishing mini game. The item you want to catch is named "Calesvol" and is a golden item and a weapon for Kay.
Also it seems to be harder to catch than all other items so if you reel it in too easy it probably isn't what you are after.
As said this is pure rng had to fish around 200 times to get this.

For better chances upgrade the pier and maximize your bond with Shichiroji as this gives better chances for rare catches.
Buy the cheap lures from the merchant as they have the same chances with Shichiroji maximized and you have unlimited fishing attempts while with other lures you can only fish 6 times per day.
Also better make a savegame before going fishing the merchant seems to not to restock after you buy his full stock of 100 and I had to use way more.

So good luck for everyone and may the developers burn in rng hell only finding relief trying to get stupid rng achievements and never work on a game again.

To be honest, I agree with you, RNG achievements are stupid and time wasting. If you're going to make us roll the dice then make the chance increase with successive fails; at the very least have the decency to put a hard cap on it!

I digress... I can't vote up because I played on PS4 (two years ago), but read this today and wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write down what you know, hopefully it helps more people.

Got this in 53 tries using magnetic bait with Shichiroji maxed out. I may have just got very lucky, but it could be an indication that the increased item drop rate with magnetic bait is worth the extra cost. Obviously, I could only fish six times per day, but I was always going to have to take it slow due to chronic hand pain. There is a special place in hell reserved for developers who add RNG achievements with low drop rates that require a lot of button mashing.

With Shichiroji maxed out, it took me exactly 146 magnetic bait attempts and about 30 other kind of baits to fish out the legendary item, including some mistakes.

I know everyone is using baits, but I just got the Calesvol 3 times almost back to back out of like 20 tries using NO BAIT at all. I haven't even caught the 25 fish yet. I am at the end game btw.

I used the Magnetic Baits. I first made as many as I could, 92. Then I sold everything I caught, and made another 126. I got the Achievement with 109 left.

There were a couple times where I lost the "fish," so maybe I could have gotten it sooner if I was more vigilant on mashing the A button.

Yes, this is by far the worst trophy in the game and the developers should be flogged for marring an otherwise fun and enjoyable game with this trash.

This trophy unlocks via the fishing game available at the pier in Ascalia. All you have to do is fish up the legendary sword Calesvol from the pond. The frustration here is that in order to fish up the sword you must hit not one, but two low % RNG rolls in the fishing game. One for an ITEM (versus a fish or a boot) and a second for the SWORD (versus a number of other items in the RNG table). Here are some recommended preliminaries to get done before you try for it:

- Upgrade the Pier to level 3
- Max out Shichiroji's personal bond (this improves both the number of times you can fish and your rare item %'s)
- Craft Magnetic bait to use (increases % chance of getting an ITEM versus a fish or boot)
- wait for postgame (daily count down is gone in postgame)

Even with the magnetic bait I'd say the % chance I saw of getting an ITEM is only around 20%-30%. Some people have had much better luck, but I mashed the damn "X" button for almost 2 hours before the sword unceremoniously came up. Good luck.
