How to unlock the Wicked Wicker achievement in RESEARCH and DESTROY - Definitive Guide

I got this on my second playthrough. The Twiggerman showed up in phase 2 of closing the portal after investigating Foggy Isles (the one that looks like the United Kingdom). IIRC my first playthrough didn't allow me to investigate Foggy Isles.

The achievement pops after activating the collapsifier inside the Twiggerman.

You can always allow Foggy Isles to fall to the supernaturals again (so that it's red on the map). Then you can enter the fight, abandon it, and it'll go up one difficulty level. If, on the supernaturals' map turn, the difficulty level goes up from level 3, a new portal will spawn, allowing you to get this achievement.

Just to add to the great guides above, don't try to take Foggy Isles on your first or second land grab. Wait until it is the 3rd/4th so that portals appear.

I didn't get this mission on my 1st playthrough, on my 2nd playthrough I had 6 other territories before attacking Foggy Isles and it was the 2nd of 3 missions that appeared.

Calling it a mission is incorrect (in my opinion) it is a territory defense event. I will preface this by saying that I farmed everything in one session. This event happened to me 2 times so it is not unique, I cannot guarantee that there are particular triggers to activate it. The process is quite simple, I got to the final session of the game (when the final portal appears above Spain) I conquered Foggy Isles and waited for the defense event. Being territory defense I remind you not to build university. The difficult for both times was level 1 you don't need any portal your free to clear other territory for the portals and then focus on this specific one.

Every region in the game appears to function the same way: There are 3 possible missions available on each map, and by doing a portal you will be given all 3 in order, with the third being a unique "portal closing" mission usually (always?) involving portal plugs. The Twiggerman is the second mission on Foggy Isles, so that is the reliable way to get it.

You are correct, however, that defense missions can also be the Twiggerman, because they can be either of the two non-portal plug missions. It appears to be random which of the two you get.
