How to unlock the S is for S.T.A.R.S. achievement in Resident Evil 0 - Definitive Guide

To get this you must beat the game in under three and a half hours. What I did to help me out was have a speed run video up on my laptop and letting it run as I'm playing so i know when to drop what items where and when to swap characters. Once you beat the game in under three and a half hours this will unlock the submachine gun(with limited ammo) and unlimited rocket launcher thus making the other smaller achievements easier to get. While the video itself is completed in 1hr 50min my run was done in 2hrs and 37min even with a few deaths and reloading saves and also rewinding the video to go back to a few things. This give you plenty of buffer time to make a few mistakes and what not. I did my run through on normal because like RE1 if you beat the game on normal or higher in under 3hrs you unlocked the rocket launcher.

Also once the Unlimited Launcher has been unlocked you can then use it in Wesker Mode

NOTE: If you pause the game the timer will still keep going.
EDIT: As Mich Hemsworth noted you can press the home/guide button cn_guide to dashboard on the controller and it will pause your game and also freezing the game/game timer allowing you to take a break from it.

Here's the Video I used:

Question... dunno if you know, if I get S rank in normal mode, do I get to use the rocket launcher in hard? Also wondering if Wesker mode even counts for this

No unlike Resident Evil 1 remake that came out last year the rocket launcher will NOT carry over to Hard. That was the first thing that i tested out and was bummed to see it didn't transfer over. Unlike RE1 the Once Again... option is locked/tied solely to that difficulty/save that you chosen. As for Wesker mode I'm not sure since I only loaded the game up briefly with it but my guess is like the Leech Hunting mini game and everything else its tied to the same save file that you load up so it wont transfer over as well.

That's really a shame, oh well, time to finish it again. Can confirm Wesker mode doesn't give you the achievement, finished with 2:35 and they just give you the costume.

You might also want to add to your guide for those who are having trouble with the time to press the home button, that will freeze the game, therefore, the timer. So if you forget something you can check while you are in the dashboard

Hi could you tell me best places to save on normal speedrun? Also can you pause the game without adding to the time?

No you can not pause the game as the timer will keep going but you can press the home button and it will freeze your game alowing you to take a break for a bit as Mich Hemsworth said. As for save point I did a save at every new area and before a boss fight. I just used the ink ribbons that are at typewriters so i wouldnt have to go out of my way to find one.

Go nuts on the first aid spray and other healing items =) the only thing about using them is that you wont get the achievements for NOT using first aid sprays and recovery items

Does anybody know if this has to be done on Normal or higher? I know that if you play on Easy, it won't give you a progress screen at the end.

@UberniXi: You can only unlock this on Normal or Hard difficulty only. New Game+ and unlimited ammo doesn't matter as long as you finish it under par time.

Done it. 3 hrs 3 mins. Skipped all cutscenes but took some detours, getting all files, the custom handgun, and backtracking to save or get more ammos.

Hello!

I need help with this achievement!
I followed this guide almost to a T, and while I had to make a few extra shots with my weapons on some areas, but despite having around 8 shots from a grenade launcher, 16 shots with a shotgun, and a few magnum rounds, I seem to NOT be able to finish this speed run because I'm out of ammo during the final leech queen boss fight!
I need help!
If anyone can help, please message me, or message me on xbox

It should be mentioned in the solution that it is REQUIRED to beat it on normal or higher, not just for the rocket launcher but to actually unlock this achievement lol, it does not work on easy.

It's a shame that the unlimited rocket launcher won't carry over to hard, but I guess that's the challenge in getting the hard mode achievement anyway haha. I'll be using Carcinogen's normal mode speedrun, then run through the game again for the hard mode achievement using the video you posted. Thumbs up though, I did the same thing you did in last year's REmake for the 3 hour achievement and can confirm it's a really simple way of getting this achievement. Especially keeping in mind how much time you have to spare when following these videos, you can detour to save rooms if you feel your run may be going south or you know you have trouble at a certain part and want to save before hand.

Just FYI for everyone, pausing the game ABDOLUTELY DOES stop the timer. Just did it using that video walk through and pausing constantly, finished with 2:24. I played on normal, though. May be different on hard.

I recommend combining it with Who's Got the Herb? , Save Your Prayers , Allergic to First Aid Spray , This is Serious Business .
To do this, we go through the game on normal, then in leech mode we collect all 100 leeches, as a result we get a powerful Colt on the train in compartment 202 + endless ammunition for all weapons + Billy has a machine gun at the start. Therefore, you can not pay attention to all this nonsense, and keep in your inventory only quest items and a Colt with a machine gun, and later just 2 Colts.
For S rank you need to complete the game in less than 3 hours 30 minutes . This is more than generous, I completed it in 2 hours 8 minutes.

In general, the game is linear, except for the mansion, so it’s better to know what’s where in it in order to get through it faster. It looks like this:
1. 2nd floor left wing, at the bottom of the map in the room with the crows - a handle
2. We go to the elevator on the 2nd floor on the top left, take the microfilm, take Rebecca up the elevator, go through the 3rd floor and open the passage to the hall.
3. Bill lifts the cage on the 3rd floor, Rebecca takes the fire key, kill the boss.
4. We go into the room next to the water door and take a piece of the statue.
5. 1st floor right wing, open the door to the kitchen with the key, take gasoline.
6. We go further into the room with the gun, take another piece of the statue, go up the stairs and eventually find ourselves in the audience on the 2nd floor.
7. We go into the left door and stomp into the room with the elevator to open the door with the lighter, there we take the book with wings.
8. We return to the corridor and open the second fire door, take the arrow.
9. We go to the third floor to the clock, use the arrow.
10. Second floor, right wing behind the door with the clock - microfilm.
11. First floor, left wing behind the door with the clock - projector room, insert 2 microfilms, get a disk.
12. We insert the disk into the auditorium on the 2nd floor, go through the door behind the knights, take the last wings.
13. We put the statues on the scales and go to the basement.
Well, then it’s a linear game again, you won’t be able to get confused.

For those who are concerned about the question of whether time passes in a pause - NO, IT DOES NOT GO, INFA 100%.
This means the pause screen by clicking on Options.

The trophy will not be given if you play in Wesker Mode, but in this mode you can get the Save your Prayers trophy.

The machine at the start is given not for completing Lich Hunter, but for completing the game with rank A or higher
