How to unlock the Gotcha! achievement in RESIDENT EVIL 2 - Definitive Guide

The opportunity to do this comes right after completing the puzzle using all 6 of the chess pieces to unlock a new door. Since this is highly missable, it is recommend that you make a manual save in case you miss it.

Proceeding through the new doors will start this boss fight. During phase 1, run around the room avoiding the fire on the ground, and dodging the ceiling attacks. Once G enters the room, leave out the door he came through, moving onto the crane platform. Move the crane to start the fight. At this point, damage G, and down him at least 2 times (on assisted) or 4 times (on normal), to the point that his eye is dark red and at a certain point Leon will say "Bet I can use the crane", and then down him somewhere near the middle of the platform.

Once this happens, quickly interact with the crane to finish the fight using only one crane use.

@GoGoActionTeam, try shooting and downing them until his eyes become deep red.

@GoGoActionTeam, I, too, had to down him 4 times. Also playing on Normal too.

Also, if you don't have a lot of ammo, the knife does surprisingly a lot of damage to him. I had to make do with what they gave me, plus 3 MAG ammo. Annoying, but did it.

For the record CLaire can make the comment about the crane and it not be enough. Annoying. I missed my first time and hoped it would still count as the time I got was still technically the first time the crane hit him. It didn't count. Then I hit him in my first attempt right after Claire makes that crane comment. It wasnt enough though. I wonder if his placement matters? Near the edge?

note for when Birkin is attacking through the ceiling, if you stay in the corner to the left of the door you run through after Birkin busts it down you can just stay there and not take damage, good tip for the 14,000 steps achievement as well

So I have tried it a couple times now right after Leon says the line but it's not working. I'm thinking that the line is time based rather than an indication of damage done. Also I am playing it on normal so I don't know if you are as well but that might be another factor thats throwing it off. Further trial and error had me down him a minimum of four times before using the crane to get it.

Hope this helps your guide as they always help me!

Best done with Leon (Assisted or Standard mode), but you NEED the flamethrower with a full clip (400 ammo I think) :

-At the beginning of the checkpoint, press the button to send away the crane.
-Grab the flash grenade to the right of the button and equip it in the inventory.
-Face the boss, throw the grenade, making him blind.
-Equip the flamethrower and empty your entire clip at him: he should get on his knee and not move the whole time.
-Once he's toast, press the button. Don't hesitate to just another flash grenade if you have one to keep him in the crane's trajectory.

The first thing I did was run over and hit the button to start the crane, which moves the large crate out of the way to give you more room to avoid the monster's attacks. I then equipped the magnum and shot him in the eye on his left arm. It usually takes two shots in the eye to knock him down. I then waited until he got back up and did the same thing. Eventually, after knocking him down 4 times, the next magnum shot took him down in one shot to the eye. At this point, I ran to the crane controls and hit the button, ensuring I stayed in front of the controls in order to avoid the swinging crate, and when the crate swung around it hit the monster killing it in one swing. Gotcha!

Same experience I'll add I was on assist mode for this one. After the 4th down with magnum shot the crane took him out. Leon did say "I'll use the crane" at about 2-3 downs but at 2 and 3 for me the crane didn't kill him

I should have added that I was on the standard mode; I'm sure it differs by difficulty. It is good to know that the pattern is the same on each difficulty. It seems that it takes one or two more downs after Leon or Claire say to "use the crane".

In this video I will show you how to defeat G in stage two while only using the crane once. You might want to save before hand in case it does't work and also bring some healing items along with some ammo.

Don't hit G with the crane straight away and then try and defeat by shooting him, that doesn't work. Move the crane out of the way first so you have more space and then start shooting at his eye on his shoulder or back till you knock him down. Do it till he drops a couple of times and leon/clare will say something about using the crane and and i think at that point you can defeat him with the crane on the first attempt. try n get him to stay in the corner when you press the button, i don't know if you have to knock him down before the crane hits him . If you got any flash bangs they help a lot.

In order to get this achievement, you have to deal a specific amount of damage to him BEFORE hitting him with the crane. Hit the button to move the crane, stun him with a flash grenade, then knife him until he goes down on one knee and keep knifing him for a while, it will probably take more than one knife to do this. You can tell that you've done just about enough damage when the eye on his shoulder turns red. Then run back and hit the button and flash him again when he stands up.

Stage 2 G will be the second boss fight of the game and takes place at the end of the Sewers section. You will find yourself on a small platform with 2 crane controls. One button will send the crane's arm swinging away from the platform and the other will have it swing back into position. What you need to do is press the button to have the crane swing its arm away and then get Stage 2 G stunned and in the path of the crane. Once he is in the path of the crane, you need to press the other button and have it swing back around and hit him to knock him off the platform. The timing on this is important: you will need to start the crane swinging, then stun him as soon as possible, then get out of the way of it yourself. The timing is tight and may take multiple attempts, so make a save in the room where the type writer is before this boss fight and if you miss, reload your save and try again.

Sometimes a successful hit will not knock him off the platform too, so it is advised to deal some damage to him before attempting to knock him off and to be attempting this on the Easy difficulty. See the video below for a demonstration;

During the second boss fight with G, you will be on a platform with a crane that can push the boss down using a container. If you first take away a little HP from the boss, then after the collision he will stay on the platform, so it is advisable not to skimp on ammo and only then start the crane. To be safe, you can use the number of times the boss “squats” to avoid taking damage. By the fourth time, he would almost certainly not be able to recover from one blow. Well, in case of failure, you can always load the last autosave, which will return you to the very beginning of the battle.

We press the button only when he sits down for the fourth time. Don’t rely on the words about the faucet, it doesn’t help. And don’t waste ammo when he’s crouched, it’s of no use.

The method works with a flamethrower: lure Birken to the center and fry until crispy (until it falls). Spend the flamethrower charge from 400 to 120, then start the crane, Birken will start to get up, throw a flash drive and burn the reptile before he falls on his knees (120 is enough). If you fall on your knee, then the trophy is yours!

You should not focus on squats and not on the phrases of the heroes, but on the redness of Birkin’s eye. If you shoot from a simple pistol, then it can crouch four times, but it will still not be enough. And if you shoot with a shotgun, magnum, or something more powerful, then the eye may turn red after the second squat. When you deal enough damage, the eye will turn red, and then you can use the tap.

Leon B campaign on normal difficulty. Burnt him with a flamethrower. Even when he is sitting on his knee, burn him until he begins to stand up. After that, stop - the flame will remain on it and after a while it will sit down again. And again the flamethrower! As soon as it has dropped 4 times, press the button to call the “elevator”) In this way, I spent 1.5-2 minutes on it.
