How to unlock the A Heart of Steel achievement in Resident Evil 4 - Definitive Guide

To earn this trophy you will need to complete the game on Professional difficulty. To unlock Professional you will need to beat the game once and have a cleared save data. If you have the EU version you must beat the game on Normal, beating the game on Easy will not unlock Professional. With that done you can start a new game on Professional difficulty; you cannot start this with a New Game +. Professional not only has the enemies hit harder and take more damage, but will give you less ammunition and items. Having the Special 2 costume available will help with this playthrough as it will make Ashley invincible and you won't have to worry about her; however if you play with the special costumes the merchant will not sell you the body armor in Chapter 5. Beat the game and this trophy will pop at the post game save screen.

See the Professional Mode Help post for hints on specific hard areas.

First, before you can start the highest difficulty which is professional you need to complete the game on normal to unlock the setting.

Professional not only has the enemies hit harder and take more damage but will give you less ammunition and items. So, try to conserve your ammunition the best you can.

Here are some tips that could help you in your survival.

1: Every time you go through a door, steps etc leading to a different area and the OPEN text is in green, the game will give you a checkpoint once you enter the new area. So, use it to your advantage.

2: If you are about to get attacked try to turn your back to the enemy and you will take less damage.

3: Select costume 2 for Ashley to have on her Suit of Armor. It will make Ashley invincible, so you never have to worry about her dying. The enemies will also not be able to carry her away.

4: Find as many of the hidden treasures which will give you more money to spend at the merchant. This is a link to all the Hidden Treasures in the game. Thanks to Emilia the Sage.

Here are the combinations of the herbs if you’re not sure what they all do.

Green - Restores a small amount of health
Green + Green - Restores a large amount of health
Green + Green + Green - Fully restores health
Red - Cannot be used alone
Yellow - Cannot be used alone
Green + Red - Fully restores health
Green + Yellow - Restores a small amount of health and adds an extra 5 percent to total health
Green + Red + Yellow - Fully restores health and adds an extra 5 percent to total health

Complete the game on the highest difficulty level.
To do this, it is advisable to open the 2nd set of costumes, so that Ashley would be in a Knight costume (it does not break through and enemies fall when trying to drag her away) and would not be a hemorrhoid for us.

to make it easier, you can set the classic controls, type 3 in the options, then the shot button and the melee attack button will be , which will simplify the battles - Leon will strike at the right moment even if you are trying to shoot

1. Play on CONTROL TYPE 1 (the very first one). If you aim , then it can be customized , , And - the sight actually moves faster I found out quite by accident when I was figuring out the controls It is very convenient to USE with a knife when you need to bend down!

2. No need to upgrade all your weapons in a row! First of all, improve the TMR, it mows down people very well at the end and allows you not to waste much on pistol cartridges. Fired 1 round into the head, and then shot the poor guy to death. Don't download the gun or the gun. Leave the coins for the STRIKER and the outer RIFLE. Don’t rush to sell everything to the seller. Combine treasures! There you can see if something can be inserted into the item. Swing purely out of necessity, and not stupidly. By the way, I only downloaded the last gun and not to the fullest - I sold it later for nothing...

3. Don't waste money on ba3uks - it's pointless... The headman is a very simple boss; we kill the right hand of the Dwarf with the found RPG; The Dwarf himself dies very quickly from a sniper (SEE my tip); “TICK” on the platforms, also get rid of it with a sniper rifle [I put 10 rounds of ammunition into his tail, then another point-blank ra3a 4 from a striker and he left. It’s strange, but I inserted 9 rounds from the inserted BUTTERFLY and it didn’t even move to the next phase. The game is bugged in terms of weapon damage - take that moment into account]...

4. Don't forget that sometimes it's better not to reload a weapon, but to go to a merchant and increase its capacity. All your bullets will respawn.

5. What else can I say? I described the murder of Crow3er there. Along the way, it just became dull or... In short, I didn’t really care about PROF and did so. At the very beginning of the CUTSCENE I dodged and as soon as he ran up to me, I shot him point-blank with a BUTTERFLY! 8 shots with a pumped-up pistol [50 damage]. Everything is done without moving.

6. There is a ton of ammo in the game, but you won’t be able to steal it all, if you were greedy at the beginning, at the end you will be completely ahead! You can shoot at anyone and anything.

P.S.: almost done. I ran through the scene where the helicopter flies with you. The whole difficulty lies in the fact that the spinner does not help and it is of ZERO use! I was in no way prepared for such a turn and devoured almost all the first aid kits. The ending is very simple.

To beat the game on the maximum Professional difficulty level, you need to beat the game on Normal, only after that the Professional difficulty will open.
I played the game 3 times, first on Easy I studied the locations, the location of objects and zombies, then I went through the company as Ada to open the Special 2 costumes for Leon (hat and scarf) and Ashley (knight's armor that makes her completely invulnerable and can be used as bait ).
The second playthrough on Normal I learned to save ammo and use a knife, and only after that playthrough on Professional.
On Professional difficulty you can be killed in 2-3 hits and in order not to worry about Ashley, be sure to get a set of Special 2 suits, so that you only worry about how to protect yourself.

Ashley used it as bait in all possible cases: El Gigante grabs her, at that moment you shoot him, put him in the crowd, the zombies try to grab her and fall, at that moment we finish him off on the ground, etc.

Costume options and description:
- Normal: standard costumes for Leon and Ashley.
- Special 1: RPD suit from RE2 for Leon, which gives +30% to defense. You cannot buy Tactical Vest from the seller! For Ashley, a pop star costume without bonuses.
- Special 2: Leon's gangster costume, which changes Chicago Typewriter's weapon reload animation. You cannot buy Tactical Vest from the seller! Ashley wears a suit of knight's armor, which makes her completely invulnerable and prevents her enemies from kidnapping her. The footsteps from the weight of the armor are very loud and annoying.

I spent 10 whole hours of my life going nowhere on a rare day off, listening to a lot of advice and tips from the forum.
The first and most important thing for everyone who has just started getting acquainted with the original or decided to return like me after 3 generations of consoles:
NEVER, AGAIN, NEVER beat the game on easy if your time is valuable to you. This mode does not lead to anything and does not reveal anything that Normal would not have discovered. It’s just that normal is still NECESSARY to open the professional difficulty (the idiots from Crapcom did not open the maximum difficulty right away, or at least as a reward for completing it on easy).
FORGET about endless rocket launchers, NG+s and progress. NONE of this will happen at professional level. Your maximum ease of passage is the second suit on Ashley in armor, which is terribly annoying with the sounds of movement, a kind of joke from the classic Japanis game designers. This costume will unlock in the Ada expansion, Separate Ways, which in turn will unlock after completing it on any difficulty.
So, the order is:
1) Go on normal, collect all the caps in the shooting range
2) Go through Separate Ways
3) We pass Professional difficulty.
There are NO Chicago cars, bazookas, all of this is NOT and will not be when 100% is reached (It would be better to remove all mentions of this moment from the forum altogether, it was very confusing and set some hopes)

Here is a short list of what you can do to play professionally:

- At the very beginning of the game, select Special costume No. 2. After being rescued, Ashley will be in iron armor. Not a single gonnado will be able to lift and carry her, and, instead of sitting on her knees and covering her head in a critical situation, she will become a pillar, and flying objects, as well as some close attacks of the gonnados, will not be able to harm her.

- Don't forget to combine treasures to get big money. For example, a mask and 3 stones inserted into it separately cost 12,000 (3,000*4), and a fully completed mask costs 35,000. Remember that you always need money, but you should not buy a treasure map - it's extra waste of money.

- Remember that by upgrading a gun’s ammunition, you fully load it with cartridges. Don’t reload if the merchant is coming with new things very soon, and you don’t really need the weapon yet - save your ammo.

- About the weapon that you should buy and improve:

1) DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR FIRST Handgun , after shooting 15 blue emblems you will get a better Punisher pistol. KEEP the Punisher (you can upgrade it to level 3) UNTIL THE Blacktail PISTOL APPEARS IN THE STORE. Blacktail is the best pistol (not in terms of power, but in other respects) available until the end of the game. Use it exactly.

2) DO NOT BUY A TMP MACHINE!!! It is extremely expensive and ineffective (very little firepower).

3) STORE AND UPGRADE THE GUN YOU OBTAINED IN THE VILLAGE UNTIL YOU HAVE A STRIKER GUN IN THE STORE . Striker is the best gun available until the end of the game. Use it exactly.

4) Rifle - is almost the most effective weapon in the game. There are many game moments where the rifle plays a very good role (killing plagas with 1 shot, killing mini-bosses with 5-7 shots (Doctor Salvador, Bella sisters, Prisoner, Heavy), killing living waste products (with an infrared sight). At the very beginning, you should buy a Rifle rifle and a sight for it, upgrading it up to the castle. In the castle, buy a Semi-automatic Rifle rifle and a sight for it. Use this rifle until the end of the game.

5) The Broken Butterfly Magnum can be purchased after the chapter where we control Ashley. Just return to the location in front of the garden, there is a fountain and a closed door. Ashley will be able to open it. USE THIS MAGNUM, AND DO NOT BUY the Killer 7 MAGNUM - you will transfer a lot of money and more power from Broken Butterfly.

6) The rather original Mine Thrower weapon is very useful in many cases. I RECOMMEND BUYING IT, IT IS A REPLACEMENT FOR GRANTS, WHICH ARE VERY FEW.

7) You can buy a Rocket Launcher for bosses, but don’t abuse it. So, it will be very effective against the village bigwig, in the fight with Krauser (a regular knife is VERY EFFECTIVE against him), and in the first and second meetings with El Gigante, everything will be quite simple if you have a rifle. However, a fight with Verdugo, Salazer, as well as with two El Gigante in the castle and a terrible creature on the island (before the fight with Krauser) will make your life extremely easier!

- Save ammo by using punches and a knife. It is very effective to shoot in the head and knock the enemy to the ground, and then finish him off with a knife. However, if a group of Ganados attacks, you should do everything carefully.

- don't forget about the RETRY button. If you see that you made a mistake in battle, but have not yet died, you can try to do it again. Usually, the second time the result is better: more ammo and healing agents after the battle.

To open the professional mode, you must first complete the game on normal, and not on any difficulty level.

First, we go through the game on easy difficulty, so that we can get a good and well-pumped weapon. Then we go through the scenario as Ada, so that we can open the 2nd set of costumes. And now we go through it professionally and, most importantly, in the second extra costume, so Ashley won’t be taken away, and you have less ammunition spend it. And if during your first playthrough you have accumulated a sufficient amount of money, plus sell your entire arsenal, then for a million you can buy an endless rocket launcher, which will be VERY useful to you.

Gentlemen, this speed walkthrough https://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.p...entEvil4_15053 helps a lot in many ways. Not in all of them, but the quick ways to deal with bosses are amazing. It helped me.

I’ll add to the above - with one shot from the Rocket Launcher, Ramon Salazar may not die even on Normal difficulty (maybe I didn’t hit accurately), I needed a couple more shots from a pumped-up revolver (Broken Butterfly). Then I specially double-checked, replaying the battle with him without using the Rocket Launcher, pumped up with Broken Butterfly and Killer 7, it takes 12-15 accurate hits on Salazar (namely, on him, after opening the shell). So, I wouldn’t hope for one shot with Rocket Launcher.

I want to add an addition to the mission with Krauser: I advise you not to engage in battle with him unless absolutely necessary, he will provoke you into contact until the very end, if you have a supply of ammunition and medicine, then it is better to just run before the first fuss with him, there’s a knife or a butterfly and now it’s up to the final mission, and the knife is really one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and yes, indeed, 15-20 hits and Krauser is baked

In addition to Diman666666's tip, I want to say that the magnum is not particularly needed, you can upgrade the striker to 100 rounds and calmly make your way through the crowds.

At this level of difficulty, it is extremely necessary (especially for those people who are completing the game on this difficulty for the FIRST time) to save ammo and medicine, however, increasing the bar for Leon 's health points is welcome, but only as a last resort when you need to heal in order to go further.

Tactics for fighting some bosses, calling for saving ammo and, in some cases, medicine:

Del Lago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56KhcFuspm8

Ramon Salazar: My video is missing because this boss cannot be killed with a knife. Accumulate 30,000pts. throughout the game up to this point and buy Rocket Launcher . At the beginning of the battle, shoot Salazar 's tentacle in the eye (if several successful shots are made, Salazar 's very essence will be revealed). If the tentacle opens its mouth - a fatal attack, you need to run to the side, also beware of the tentacles with which it will try to pin you to the floor, both the main and secondary ones (at the edges of the arena). After Salazar 's true self appears, shoot him with the Rocket Launcher . By the way, in addition to all of the above, the boss’s weak point is his left shoulder.

On Pro difficulty, Sadler can be immobilized until he receives the rocket launcher, practically without leaving the starting point of the battle at the elevator. Take a fully upgraded mine thrower. The fact is that a fully upgraded weapon adds a homing effect to mines. Thus, when aiming at the boss, the mine itself will fly where it should. 10 such shots and Ada throws off the rocket launcher. Don't forget to finish off the boss with a knife after each shot. If you don’t have time to aim right away, then initially equip a green grenade, which will be the beginning of your series.

One more thing. There are a lot of treasures in the game, shoot at the surrounding area (glass, torches, etc.). Thus, you will no longer need to save currency at all. In the place where Ashley is carried away by Novistador (there is still a large hanging nest on the ceiling), this very nest can be destroyed by hitting it with something powerful. As a result, a bunch of stones will fall out. I dedicated one playthrough to collecting all the treasures and this is what happened.
Spinels - 116000 ptas
Blue velvet - 80000 ptas
Emeralds - 21000 ptas
Rubies - 2000 ptas
Green eyes - 27000 ptas
Red eyes - 6000 ptas
Blue eyes (fell out of nest) - 6000 ptas
Treasures, including combined ones completely - 422000 ptas
TOTAL: 680,000 ptas. More than enough to upgrade your favorite weapons in the game. This does not include chests with coins.

I advise you to complete the game on any difficulty, then Ada's story to unlock alternative costumes No. 2. Start the game on professional and choose costumes No. 2. When you save Ashley, she will be in knight's armor; they won't be able to kill or steal her in it. It can also be used as bait; ordinary enemies will try to steal it, but when they try to pick it up they will fall to the ground, at this time finish them off with a knife. In locations with stairs, run away from enemies and climb them to the top, the enemies will follow you, cut their hands so that they fall back. Try to buy a bazooka for all bosses (almost everyone dies from a shot, the main thing is to know where to shoot and at what moment) BUT IMPORTANT! don’t buy a bazooka for Krauser (he won’t die with it, even if you manage to hit him), kill him with a KNIFE, 15-20 hits will be enough for him, otherwise you’ll waste a lot of ammo and you might not meet the deadline.
