How to unlock the Run the Gauntlet achievement in RESIDENT EVIL 5 - Definitive Guide
So this glitch existed back on the Xbox 360 version and still works on the Xbox One and PC. (and I assume other versions too) I've never seen anyone post about this, and I have only just now due to now having Xbox One's DVR ability.
I’ve read posts saying that completing the game on Professional with an AI partner is impossible, but trust me – it’s not. I was able to do it in about ninety minutes and despite a few trouble areas, it is actually a pretty fun playthrough. Luckily AI Josh is not an absolute moron like AI Sheva, so that’s a big help.
Below you will find specific tips for each area, but first here are some general rules:
- Avoid unnecessary battles and run whenever you can
- Whenever you hit a checkpoint, restart your game right away. This is a must since doing so will get rid of any enemies which were on your tail
- In the very first section, you must absolutely obtain the shotgun. If it isn’t there, restart your game
- Somewhere along the game make sure to pick up a magnum. If you don’t, the final battle will get very nasty
Now here are my quick tips for each section.
Note that I was playing as Jill along with AI Josh.
Initial Area
Make your way to the safe in the upstairs control room on the right. If the key is not in the safe, restart. If it is, avoid all enemies and quickly open the gate and keep running until you reach the checkpoint. Restart your game, then head back to the initial area to collect available weapons and ammo.
Checkpoint # 1
Nothing complicated here. Kill all enemies and open the door for Josh.
Checkpoint # 2
Now it gets a bit troublesome. Head to the middle of the area (by the bottom of the ramp) and have enemies follow you to the entrance area. Once no one else attacks, have Josh throw you up the ladder found on the right side of the map. Pick up the grenades quickly and rejoin your partner until the big machine gun guy appears. Use whatever is at your disposal, but preferably the grenades, gas canisters and shotgun. Might take a few tries, but once he’s down grab the dropped key right away and make for the exit.
Checkpoint # 3 – Turret Area
Start by taking out the three zombies who will head to the turret on the left. If you have a sniper rifle, great, but if not it’s doable with the machine gun or pistol. Make your way to the gap and have Josh toss you across. Watch out for the turret to the left of the door which you must open. Do your best to avoid its fire and wait for Josh. Head to the turret and blast the red door. If there are tons of enemies on your back, restart.
Checkpoint # 4 – Turret Area
Don’t stop, just sprint to the newly opened red door and go straight to the other door just past it. Open it with Josh and if things are hairy, restart.
Checkpoint # 5 – Turret Area
Explode the gas canisters and wait for the fire to burn out. Run past all the baddies and head up the stairs on the right to reach the turret. Quickly use it to blow up the red door in the distance. Restart your game.
Checkpoint # 6 – Turret Area
Sprint over to the demolished red door and head for the turret. Again, use it to blow up another red door found to the left. Pray that the safe next to this turret holds a magnum! Now sprint to said red door and restart your game.
Checkpoint # 7 – Turret Area
Take out as many of the zombies shooting flaming arrows at you. Eventually the game will throw a boss at you. If it’s that insect, you know how to take him out easily. If you are so fortunate to get the executioner, exit this area and head to the turret on the right. Luckily he won’t follow you all the way, but he will stay in your turret sight! Don’t forget to go to that shack in between the turrets for a bunch of ammo. Now go back to the checkpoint start and equip your shotgun for the rest of this area – it will make your life a lot easier. Climb up the stairs and take out that buddha Majini in the green tent. Stock up on ammo and grab that health can! Have Josh throw you up to the next level and simply sprint to the door which you must open for him. Head up the ramp and make sure that Josh is always right next to you as you head for the exit. Don’t go straight for the exit and wait for Josh – I guarantee you that while you wait on him a gang of zombies will kill you.
Checkpoint # 8 – Rooftop
Finally! Break all the crates which you see and stock up. Don’t forget those grenades either. If you’re lucky, you should have about 60 shotgun shells as well as the magnum. After the cut scene, head straight and go up the ladder. This is where you’ll spend the majority of this battle. Take out your shotgun and blast away. Easily defeat the big machine gun guy with 6 blasts from your magnum. Depending on which spawns for you, use your grenades on either the chainsaw guy or the insect. After the timer bumps back up to 2 ½ minutes, keep blasting with your shotgun until either the chainsaw guy or insect re-emerge. Now simply run for the rest of the battle. Head down the ladder and run behind the building all the way in the back and then return to the original area via the ladder on the opposite side. Rinse and repeat. Obviously be vigilant, but this should keep you out of harm’s way until the end!
You want as much as possible for the final section! You also wanna make sure you have at least 1 rocket launcher and 6 magnum-shots (preferably 12) + min. 2 heal-items.
You should have a decent idea how to get through the DLC by the time you unlock Pro-difficullty. If not, run through on normal once before even attempting pro.
Now the worst part about the DLC is that the spawns themselves are completely random. You might end up fighting 2 or 3 insects during the main-section or just some executioners.
Everytime you hit a checkpoint, you can simply reload the checkpoint to despawn or rather respawn enemies at their original spawn-location. Make sure to abuse this to run past enemies IF possible. Keep in mind: every enemy oneshots you.
For the final section: I stood in the corner opposite of the elevator surrounded by walls. It's a pretty safe space unless chainsaw-guys walk in. Also allows to shot at minibosses the second they spawn. I had to face 2 fat-gatling-gun-guys and an executioner. That's what you saved the magnum / rocket launcher for.
Good luck, you'll need it.
Comment if you have any questions / issues.
To unlock Professional, you must first complete Desperate Escape on Veteran. You can also join a friend who has already unlocked Professional. Doing this will save you a playthrough and the achievement will still unlock. Works best in Co-op, since the A.I. isn't the best partner.
Alright, now it sounds silly to make a guide on each area specifically, since my general strategy was to just run, and kill what's only ABSOLUTELY necessary.
End Strategy
To start out, you should definitely have a shotgun and a sniper rilfe. Start out by running into that little building that has the 2 machine gun ammo and the 1 shotgun ammo. Pick them up, but be careful as it's very dangerous. May take a few tries to get it right. After that, run over to the area near the elevator, and jump up to the top. Stay on the left side (left if you are looking out towards where you came from, above the elevator) The guy with the shotgun looks straight out and shoots the guys that jump up, knocking them off. A pistol works too but does less damage, and you can only shoot 1 at a time. The guy the the machine gun looks out over the bridge, and as guys run across it, shoot the in the legs, beware of leg armor, and then run up to them and press to finish them off, conserving ammo.
Around 4 minutes left, for me, a Red Executioner spawned from the elevator. Multiple enemies with guns also spawned. One will spawn across the bridge, and the other with spawn on top of containers if you look straight out. They don't always spawn when the Red Executioner spawns, but they always spawn in same locations. When the Executioner jumps up, run across the bridge, and primarily the shotgun will take him out, with the machine gun guy covering his sides. A sniper rifle also helps here. Careful as the Executioner will blow up, delivering damage to you, and sometimes a guy will come up the ladder to your right that explodes too.
At about 2 minutes left, when Doug comments on he will be right there, a Reaper will jump down right on the other side of the bridge. Back up as far as you can, having the shotgun guy covering the side, the rifle guy shoots the Reaper when its chest opens up and you can see the gold/white/yellow thing. It stuns him, and another colored weak spot will pop up, shoot that as well with the rifle, and it may kill him or another one will pop out somewhere. Shoot them 2 or 3 times with the rifle and he is dead.
However, another Reaper may spawn, but take the same steps to take him out, or run if neccesary. A good spot to hide for a bit is the corner straight ahead and to your left when you jump down, a box is in that corner. Another Red Executioner will spawn too, but I do not recommend killing this one. Most likely you are low on ammo, and your best strategy is to run to that corner I mentioned, wait a bit, then keep running back up top, then to corner, and so on. You will have to shoot some things though.
NOTE: The weapons I have listed are just suggestions, they are in no way needed, and you may not even obtain them throughout the playthrough. Weapon spawns are random.
Without a doubt, the most challenging of the 5 trophies. While online you could join someone’s Professional game, but if that option isn’t available you must first beat the game on Veteran in order to unlock this difficulty.

So this glitch existed back on the Xbox 360 version and still works on the Xbox One and PC. (and I assume other versions too) I've never seen anyone post about this, and I have only just now due to now having Xbox One's DVR ability.
Main. Do not leave your partner alone; a wounded partner dies in 3-4 seconds. Don't stand still and don't run head-on at your enemies, and also save your ammo - it will come in handy at the finish line.
You will be up against either standard majini (guys with bows, bottles and sickles aka farmers) or martinets. It’s easier with the first ones, so after creating a game and opening the first door, see who your opponents are. If soldiers, go out and create a new game until you meet farmers. There are two safes in this area: one above and one below, one of them contains a key. As soon as you take it, rush like a bullet to the far right door, and to the save point. Restart.
Why restart? To get rid of unnecessary pursuers. So you got to the first save point . Go back and collect ammunition in wooden boxes, killing three adversaries along the way. Run back to the second checkpoint, jump onto the roof (Jill) or shoot the farmers with Josh. As soon as Jill runs up to the door from the back, be on your guard. Two guys will appear with dynamite in their hands, help them get rid of it and run to the second checkpoint .
Put an end to the torment of all Majini and wait for two guys with chainsaws and a fat black man to appear. Focus on them, your goal is the key to the door, located in one of the trio. It is not necessary to kill everyone, you have received the key, fly to the door and the third checkpoint .
The fun part begins. Run to the left, jump over the gap twice and take 2 first aid kits from the safe. Go back. On the left you will see a turret with a farmer. Take him and two replacements down, and then rexik there. Don't pay attention to anyone, rush like the wind to the fourth checkpoint .
Actually, the tactics to the roof are as simple as two. If someone blocks the path, deal with him and run, run, run.
With the roof everything is extremely simple. Climb the blue container onto the shack with the metal structure and shoot at everything that moves. And so on for 5 minutes. And in 2.5 minutes, jump off the house and run in a circle before the time runs out.
PS You can pass as with AI. so with a friend. The AI partner is an order of magnitude less stupid than in the main campaign, and runs like Wami’s tail. With a friend, the main thing is endurance, and the assimilation of the general principles of this DLC: mutual assistance, economical use of ammunition and the priority of scurrying over shooting))
First things first, if you're playing with a bot, disarm him. Then you need to stand in the indicated place (see video below).
Majini will not come near you. All you have to do is shoot those who get in your way until you get to the right place. Stand closer to the edge (especially watch the bot so that he also stands correctly). The only moment. If there are soldiers here, then we just stand there, neither they nor the bosses will come to you.
But if you are peasants, then the first boss will be a machine gunner who will shoot at you, so you will need to calm him down from this place (luckily he will appear right in front of you). Therefore, you need to save the RPG or at least a magnum with cartridges. Next will be two saws: they are not dangerous, they will just run around.
Here’s a video I made (I was lucky and got soldiers):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZGBcyAOSEY
And this video with peasants:

Since my real partners and I couldn’t control our nerves, apparently this is due to the fact that everyone has their own tactics, as a result we have a crayfish swan and a pike.
In general, you need to run the entire game from checkpoint to checkpoint, paying attention only to obvious ambushes. For me, the biggest mess is the end of the game, when the base majini, who are protected by armor, are coming down from all sides and you need to hold out for like 10 minutes. (I’ll stop at the last stage, since it is the most difficult). In addition to them, two red executioners, 2 rippers, and 2 big majini appear. Two majini with machine guns cause particular problems - they appear at the same time once. At first I tried to just run, in general I succeeded, but the bot let me down. In the end, I found a way out; on this level there is a small room with one doorway, one door and one hole in the ceiling - this is where we take up defense. The order is this: we stand under the hole in the ceiling in the corner, because majini will fall from there, we take special control over the doorway with a door, since from there most of all majini and two rippers will fall, majini will appear from a doorway without a door, but very rarely. While in this room we avoid encounters with two red executioners, two big majini and an agitator (they won’t even show a video). I had a bazooka, a shotgun, and a Jill automatic. I knocked out one reaper with a bazooka, with a shotgun (a very necessary thing in this room!!!) I knocked out the base majini, and I killed the second reaper with Jill’s automatic gun (a very effective weapon against rippers!!! unless there’s a bazooka). The main thing is the stock of cartridges for the shotgun, it is very effective in this small room, it throws out the enemy with one shot and does not allow him to approach the bot. Actually, I stayed in this room for all 10 minutes. I also noticed that when rippers appear, base majini do not appear.
