How to unlock the Mapmatician achievement in Resident Evil Village - Definitive Guide

During your first playthrough you can not see your map percentage. You can get it on your first even though you have not unlocked the Challenge Menu yet. You just have to be thorough. I got this on my second playthrough.

Once you beat the game the first time you unlock the Challenge Menu. The map percentage is located under the Mapmatician challenge.

To get the 100% map you have to go into every room in the game. While you do not have to pick up every item, picking up all of the items and turning the rooms blue is the best way to tell if you have gone everywhere before you leave an area. Remember you can not go back to Castle Demitrisque, the doll house, or the reservoir once you beat those areas.

When you are walking across the bridge to the factory you need to be at 92%

When you are leaving the factory to the boss fight you need to be at 96%

The 100% will pop while you play as Chris Redfield.

Unfortunately I did not write down my percentages as I was leaving each area.

Just a note to say that this is certainly possible in your first play through. I got it that way, just need to be super thorough :)

I got this achievement on my first playthrough. So it's possible to get it "early".

To complete this you will need to visit every area in the village in order to have it appear on the map. ( You can check your progress in the challenge menu) You will need to visit the secret areas too. You'll know you've visited every area if you have 96% of the challenge completed when you enter the Factory. The achievement will unlock after you enter the village while playing as Chris. I
You do not need to obtain all of the treasure, wells, chests etc.

Note: If you have less than 96% on the challenge progress meter by the time you have entered the factory then you have missed a location.

@Semaj, sorry for the silly question but where is the challenge menu? Is that under the Bonus menu? I could only find a movie there. Or is that something related to online R.E. account?

@ImaginaryRuins Challenges list and other bonuses unlock after completing the story first time.

@Semaj101555 it doesn’t show your progress for the map completion in challenges, at least it doesn’t for me.

Is this just through one playthrough or several?

@sherlockforever, it’s one play through.

Also to note you will be at 92% when placing the giant chalice down. 94% crossing the bridge to the factory. 96% upon entering the factory gates (the factory title will show up in the corner of the screen).

So don’t freak out of your at 92% getting the chalice. You’re right where you need to be.

Can confirm that this achievement unlocks after gaining control of Chris and while he is descending into the village.

As long as all files, items & treasures in the village are read & obtained, I dare say this achievement should unlock because all those collectibles will take the players to all areas in the village. I did however clear all houses (shown in blue on the map).

I did not visit the pathway before you encounter Chris during the Moreau area (it has four fish and a large crystal). I still got the achievement at the end of the game regardless whenever Chris looks through the rifle to survey the carnage in the village.

Additionally there’s no need to blue every area on the map, as mentioned above I missed that one but also a house early in the game (where you get the LEMI) becomes completely inaccessible after you pass through the red gate. The first part of the house, which is sealed off by a bookshelf following your first encounter with a Lycan, is sealed off from the opposite side as well so...if you care to blue every room on the map you can but it isn’t needed for the achievement.

I’m going to add this from a GameFAQS thread I posted in about the “point of no returns” as you can’t return to several main areas after progressing to a certain point:

*The Winters Residence (a few files in this section)
*Beginning pathway (car wreck which had a file) leading to the village. You’ll slide down the hill and be unable to return there.
*Vineyard/Abandoned Mine/Cave Church - For the Vineyard as soon as you enter the Castle you’re unable to return here. As for the Cave Church and Abandoned Mine these were used during the chase sequence after meeting the four lords, only two items present in boxes after the spikey death roller trap.
*Castle Dimitrescu - Unable to return after you trigger the fight with Alcina. Entrance bridge is up with no way to bring it down.
*Pathway from Tower of Worship to Ceremony Site - This is where you encounter the hag and get the winged key. Each door seals behind you as you go through here and the one that opens directly to the ceremony site seals at some point meaning you can’t return. However, the area outside the Tower of Worship can be reached by boat later you just can’t access this corridor again.
*House Beneviento - Unable to return after you take the elevator back down to the area with Beneviento’s Treasure. The rest of this location is open to return until the factory.
*Drowned Houses (Moreau area) - Unable to return after you take the elevator back up.
*Stronghold - Unable to return to a few small areas but the majority is still accessible from the initial entrance or via the mausoleum/boat ride.
*The entire village area is fully accessible aside from two houses. The first is where you get the LEMI. You can access the primary room until you meet the Hag, then both sides of the house are blocked off. The second is Luiza’s House. Once you’ve completed that sequence you can never go back in but the outside grounds and outhouse are always available
*The ultimate point of no return is using the Giant’s Chalice to access the factory. Ethan is unable to return to the village at this point aside from the Altar and Ceremony Site during the final battle.

When you collect all the collectibles, you will reveal the entire map. The trophy drops almost at the end of the game, after the battle with Heisenberg, after the cut-scene.

The trophy means opening all the nooks and crannies in the hub location of the village. Places where you have not yet been will be closed by the “fog of war”, I am attaching a picture. You can find them visually by looking at the map, plus you will have to swim on a boat.

The game for Chris begins from a previously unopened point in the village. 4% is added to the trophy progress. So if you score 96%, then feel free to follow the story. As soon as Chris goes down the slope, the trophy is yours.

By the time Heisenberg enters the factory, it should be 96%.
So the trophy is missable

On the first playthrough I explored everything I could, found all the treasures and so on, at the factory 94% of the map was open, in the final 98%.
It turned out that I missed the nook with the cave before the first meeting with Chris (see photo).
On the second speedrun, I specifically looked only into this cave and swam a boat to the castle and in the opposite direction - the trophy fell out.

I did it easily on my first playthrough. There is no need to collect all the collectibles, etc. It's boring to just go into every door in the village. Those. If you haven’t gone somewhere, the house remains gray, but once you’ve visited it, it remains blue. The fog has nothing to do with it at all. But just going in is not enough, you also need to collect all the treasures in the house or open the master key, only then the color changes. Closed doors are also indicated by gray rectangles, which also need to be opened. There will be one crypt in the cemetery behind the church, with a door locked from the inside, don’t worry, you’ll open it according to the plot. In general, just open all the doors and wells. Collect treasures and after each new boss come back and check what else you can discover, because there is plenty of backtracking here. If you go through it carefully, it’s not at all difficult to open everything. I even collected documents 46/47 without any guides, almost everything is visible here.

I missed the cave in the location with Morro, before meeting Chris - at the end they gave me a trophy. To achieve this, it is not necessary that all sections on the map be blue, the main thing is to go into all the buildings and nooks and crannies. Red color means that you simply missed the loot. The main thing is that there are no gray houses and closed areas left. After defeating Morro, it is better to immediately lower the bridge and take a boat ride.
