How to unlock the Oh, the Horror achievement in Resident Evil - Definitive Guide

You can select HARD mode after beating the game one time with either character. You can also start up HARD mode with either Jill or Chris even if you beat the game previously with the same one. I Personally think Jill is the easier character to accomplish this with. Being able to carry TWO EXTRA ITEMS and having a LOCK PICK helps greatly. Also to save time and by making the ending much easier also, do not save
. If you are playing as Chris dont save
Here are some characteristics of HARD mode.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You find LESS Ink Ribbons to save your game.
You find LESS ammo for your weapons.
You find LESS health items.
Barry drops off LESS items each time he leaves you gear.
There are 1-2 more zombies in some areas and at times they are better hidden.

User Raezie adds the following. Great mention and thank you!

"This stacks if you beat Real survivor mode if people want to save a playthrough, or if you unlocked the IRL you can use that on hard mode even if you unlocked it on normal."

I personally found Chris to be easier. He can take far more damage (Jill has 960 HP vs Chris who has 1400). A Hunter hit well put Jill in Caution, but leaves Chris in Fine.

I suggest earning the Custom Samurai Edge too prior to starting Hard, kills Hunters in 6-8 shots, has unlimited ammo and a decent fire rate. Removed the need for handgun ammo.

While this is true it is different for everyone. I can play the whole game with only getting grabbed/hit maybe 1-4 times. Using Jill saves me time on having to find old keys and holding more important items instead of backtracking to make room.

I find Jill much easier too; lockpick and extra inventory space make all the difference

I suggest doing the "don't stop running" achievement 1st, as when you complete that achievement you get the infinite ammo rocket launcher, this made hard mode a piece of cake as every enemy dies in one hit, you can get quite a few achievements in one go as well, because the rocket launcher makes it so easy you can do the "ink is for squids" achievement at the same time on hard. completed hard mode in under 3 hours smile

Clear the game on Hard difficulty or higher with Chris or Jill. Hard is the hardest difficulty outside of the special difficulties and is only accessible by beating the game on Normal difficulty. Enemies take much more damage to put down and deal much more damage to who you’re playing as on top of having less item pick ups.

In order to access hard mode, you need to beat the game once on any difficulty and it will be available on the "Once Again" menu. If you choose to load up the game from the dashboard, you will need to load a cleared save data file or a game that is already on its second+ run. Upon doing that, just quit to the main menu from the start screen and you'll see the Green Eye in the background with "Once Again" featured.

Hard mode changes the enemy startpoints a bit when entering a room, though overall it has the exact same number of enemies as normal (there is an additional Hunter who can appear in the Caves but for some reason he does not appear in Real Survival, at least in my experience). There is significantly less health and ammo, even ink ribbons are of rare abundance.

Which is why in my playthrough recommendation, you should access this difficulty mode with the Infinite Rocket Launcher already in tow. This will make the difficulty much easier to handle, as everything dies in relatively 1-2 hits. I recommend saving your first playthrough as Chris for this mode. While using it as practice for Real Survival might be a good idea due to the locations of some enemies, it's not required and it's not worth the extra stress playing through Hard "twice" with the same constraints.

As a final note, this achievement can also unlock if you complete "Real Survival" mode first.
