How to unlock the Racing and Pacing achievement in Resident Evil - Definitive Guide

This isn't all that hard of an achievement if you're familiar with the game. Because of that, I suggest playing at least once on at least Easy, to learn enemy attacks, item placement, and boss strategy.

Some Tips

- As most will suggest, play as Jill. She has more inventory slots, gets the Grenade Launcher, can skip a few bosses, and has the most important (in my opinion anyway) advantage, Barry.

- Get the shotgun early. Once you have the sword key, head to the room you got the map, open the door in that room and controls on. You'll eventually find a square room with a single door that leads to the shotgun.

Jill can obtain it without needing the broken one, as Barry will save you.

- Get the G. Launcher ASAP. Once you obtain the Armor key, head back to the main hall, second floor. The door in the SE corner will lead you to it.

Only Jill can obtain this.

- Skip the second half of Yawn. Just fight him until you can obtain the Assault Shotgun, then get out. Don't forget the Death Mask.

- Know where key items are, when they are used, and always have room for them. Nothing sucks more than needing to run back to deposit an herb or something because you have no free spots.

- Make V-JOLT. It takes a few minutes to make and use, but saves you the hassle of fighting the boss.

- Sorry Chris. Leave Chris, no need to grab the MO discs, take the time at the terminal, and then run back to him.

- Save your Magnum. Or at least 12 rounds for the tyrant at the end.

- The tyrant and hunters can kill you in two hits, so be prepared for that.

- Save regularly. Would suck if you spent an hour progressing only to for and need to do it over again. Through my run, I saved 8 times. Usually before boss fights and after dangerous areas.

I finished at 3:44:XX, not bad for only using the guns available to me, used 8 saves, and12 health items.

Upon beating the Game, you'll earn Barry's Custom Samurai Edge, an automatic weapon that fires 3 burst rounds.

Samurai Edge will save time and ammo by replacing handgun and shotgun against zombies and dogs. You won`t need to take handgun magazines and shotgun shells would be used against hunters. However, depending on the difficulty will be better use shotgun against some enemies when they appear in groups.

If you unlock just the Samurai Edge, you will start the game with it in your inventory

If you have unlocked both, you will start the game with the rocket launcher and the Samurai Edge will be in the item box

ok so i just got the samurai edge but no rocket launcher. if i go through again is the edge already in my inventory or do i have to find the first save room box thing? also, would it be advisable to basically only use the edge the whole game? i know its powerful but it is powerful enough to take on the snake, spider, etc? anything other than the tyrant basically?

Using the below guide I was able to get a plathora of achievements in one playthrough, including this one as well as completing the game in less than 3 hours and without saving (separate run, same guide) (final time was 2:12)

I don't recommend using this for your first playthrough, but every subsequent playthrough would be good

You'll also get the achievement for finishing the game as Jill without saving anyone, as well as the story related achievements should you not have then

Note that the guide here was written for a Normal difficulty playthrough (which you will need for the all weapons achievements) BUT there is the option of doing this on Very Easy, at least until you are used to the game

See "Don't Stop Running" achievement solution. That will work just fine but will be a lot easier to complete in 5 hours.

(Missable) This trophy requires you to finish the game within 5 hours or less. While this seems difficult, it can be performed on any difficulty and becomes easier by learning the game and the most expedient route on how to hit all the checkpoints. Game difficulty doesn’t matter either, so feel free to play on Very Easy for an easier time. However, if you are following the roadmap and combining your Invisible Enemies playthrough with your speedrun playthrough, you will need to play on at least Normal difficulty. This does require you to know the game as there is no way to pause the in game timer.

See Gameplay Helps/Hints for additional details.
