How to unlock the I Don’t Believe achievement in Return to Monkey Island - Definitive Guide

At the very end of the game, when The Secret is finally revealed, you will receive a key ring from Stan. Instead of using it to turn off all the lights, go back to the door you came from and use the keys to open it. You'll return to the previous area, and head left to go back to the staircases. Once there, keep heading up the stairs until you reach the end of the game and this achievement.

For some reason this isn't working for me. I've tried multiple times and the achievement isn't popping. Must be a bug? Would appreciate any help if anyone has any suggestions. I've tried this on both casual and hard mode.

This achievement is missable and can only be done in Part 5. Once you have Stan's keys at the very end of the game, head back into the alleyway and unlock the door. Go through it and climb back up the monkey head to see the secret ending (and unlock the achievement).
