How to unlock the Firewall Buster achievement in Rez HD - Definitive Guide

Boss Rush is unlocked after you get the Laser Assassin achv (shoot down 95% on levels 1-5).
The good news is that after all that effort, you've probably put some hours into the game. Well, after five hours play, every hour adds a new form to Beyond Mode.
Forms are your lives, so if you're finding Boss Rush hard, go into the options and pick a higher form. The more you struggle, the more time you'll put in.
I just needed the second form to get through the whole Boss Rush mode as most of the bosses are quite easy to beat.
Tips for all bosses: try to 8x their projectiles and shells. Their core (the bit you shoot to kill them) doesn't give any score but don't ignore it either (you don't want them running away).

Boss 1 - Get him right down on health and then concentrate on 8x-ing the spinning blue wheel he creates for extra points.

Boss 2 - combo what you can but in his flower form (the first set of attacks with the yellow projectiles) just hammer the fire button as this bit is dangerous. Don't concentrate too much on score.

Boss 3 - shoot the rolling waves of enemies and keep an eye out for green support items, these give point bonuses. When the wall of lasers forms just hammer the fire button. These can easily take a life from you.
On the next section get lots of 8x's but equally what out for the missile things that follow you. Hammer those for safety.
On the final section you'll go inside the structure. You can combo the red spinning things but be careful, if they spin round the structure too many times they'll hit you. There is some scoring potential here but make sure you survive too.

Boss 4 - combo the hell out of him initially. Eventually it'll settle down into a chase. You'll need to turn around 180 to see him if he's behind you but equally look out for shootable wall panels ahead as these open hidden corridors with green, red and blue bonuses.
If you get a red (overdrive) don't be afraid to set it off towards the end when he goes missile crazy.

Boss 5 (+ mini boss rush)
note: save the red overdrives you get inbetween boss forms.
Boss 1 - not too many comboing opportunities here. Watch out for his green missiles. Just hammer at those. The core doesn't score points so just wipe him out.
Boss 2 - don't try to combo the yellow missiles. They hit you quicker than you'd think. Survival first here.
Boss 3 - pretty easy, combo the red spinners with the core if you're feeling brave. Eventually, the core will spawn some laser-spewing circles. These only shoot lasers when they are fully lit-up. 8x each of them a few times to destroy them. There are big points to be earned doing that and it all counts as core damage as well.
Make sure to shoot any well-lit circles to darken them a bit but concentrate on destruction and combos.
Boss 4 - the runner is back and he's pretty easily dealt with. 8x the snake form a lot. Hammer the missiles he shoots. 8x the runner. When turns into three spinning circles, hammer the missiles and the core. Finish him off with hammering the fire button.
Final boss - Every time you deal enough damage to the middle, the cores (one high, one low) become vulnerable. Focus all fire on them or they'll shoot missiles.
Later on ships turn up. 8x them if you want some extra pointage (you'll probably have the 300k you need by now).
Save overdrives for when you get overrun by missiles but this should only happen in the last quarter of the battle and won't happen at all if you focus all damage on the cores.

For some reason, I have a hard time dealing with boss 4. I find that if I don't have 3 lives going in, I lose, because I can't avoid him belly-flopping me in his 'red-runner' phase (where part of him lights up). How do you avoid this?

I played boss-modus with god-cheat enabled wich I unlocked after beating Trance mode. I didn't show up in the local scoreboard, so I think this cheat disables the achievement just to note.

To get this Achievement you will need to unlock Boss Rush. This is done by unlocking the Laser Assassin Achievement. Once you have that, play Boss Rush and score 300,000 or more points to get the 1st place local ranking spot.
