Glenn, the smuggler is a merchant that can be found in town and in several stages of the game. The benefit of using Glenn is that his wares are a bit cheaper, and his shops found in stages are a good way to resupply health items mid-stage.

The downside is, using Glenn negatively impacts the progress of the town improving. If trying to get the town to level 5 (and the subsequent achievements for having a high level town when beating the game), I would avoid using Glenn anyways.

Simply avoid him at all costs just to avoid the temptation.

The first stage can be played over and over again to stock up on coins if needed and you can buy anything you need from the official shops.
