EASY, A Gnawing is a little rat with 4 health.
Normal difficulty, double candle and hermits tiara, kill enemies and gain Speed gaining items, obviously don't have more than 4 items total and just kill everything EXCEPT the Gnawlings and when you reach depth 10 it unlocks instantly.
Got it my first try this method and used it a few times more to confirm it works quick and painless.

Why not more than 4?

Otherwise it negates your bonus from Hermits Tiara which freezes each enemy you attack so if your speed is high you attack first and freeze the enemies....Especially bombs you need to freeze!
