Endurance Challenge: Open 5 Codices or Sarcophagi without getting caught in a trap

How to unlock the Skillful Raider achievement in Rise of the Tomb Raider - Definitive Guide

First things first. Turn on the challenge!

There are two types of traps. There are collapsing floor traps, and pressure plate traps. You can shoot both types of traps. Take an infinite arrow card on your run to make things easier. Be sure to scan the floor every 5 feet and shoot the switch with the poison arrow since you are not wasting anything.

Do be careful of your return trip out of the crypts. They often spawn new traps on your way out. Watch your step going back and you should be safe.

The achievement pops when you open the 5th codec/sarcophagus.

one more tip: use ERUDIT, pathfinder OR PIONNER CARD, so you will see the traps in red color

Is there any easy way to find Crypts or perhaps any tips finding them? I spent around 40 minutes running around and only found 5. all of which had red floors blocking a very thin walkway/entrance (Which means there was no way past without activating them).

I feel like finding the crypts in the first place is the hard part.

Click RS to see what is near you and run to an area that has no icons. Without a map and the whole are being super confusing, there isn't a good way to find them.

Yeah that is what I was doing :( I'll try again later when I have more time. Sadly it seems you need to set aside 1 - 2 hours per attempt for this >.<' I have a feeling the insides of tombs may be randomly generated (MAYBE) so it could come down to a little luck too.

Did it. Patience is absolutely the key. I had to abandon 6 crypts before I finally got the achievement. So trust me when I say there are more than enough crypts to get this achievement.

God that was tense.

I think it does seem to be random spawns/map generator.. I got to edge but when I came back the way I came I was blocked by rock edge too... How long /many days did it take to unlock

So you can actually trigger the pressure plates traps as long as you don't walk on the plate but shoot it ??

You can shoot the ones that trap your foot. The ones that cover the floor with spikes cannot be shot.

this is a complete joke....first i can never hardly find any crypts...and when i do lots of traps.....running around all over the place looking for crypts...and getting lost......is a pain in the ass...because i always run out of warmth....and never make it back to fires that are highlighted on time...a map card would be real helpful here...(i mean like playing the game for over an hour or so each time...and then get killed...by some cheap trap is a joke...)........i want to enjoy the game not get frustrated with it....another annoying thing is having to constantly re select all challenges, and cards after you die...could they not have made the game remember your last setup......seriously getting annoyed with this game right now

i have tried this 8 times now..(at least an hour on each try.....nearly 12 hours in total)...got killed by choose bloody big cats one time when i had 3 crypts done....and twice by traps....even when i was using well red card......i didn't see bloody foot trap twice.....and still having the same problem locating the crypts....i have done whats been suggested here and head for no icons on map....but i never seem to find them....always find the first one in first couple of mins.....its just by pure luck you find them and then an they might be riddled with those floor traps......this is ridiculously luck based achievement....the crypts should be in the same locations each time.....getting the all gold score on all levels was ten times easier than this.....one more try tomorrow if no luck wont bother with it

I think those cards he listed are in another language. Anything with rank 3 skills in survival I think should do it. The tomb raider card unlocks all skills, or find an outfit that has all rank 3 skills with it.

Getting caught in the floor traps means death, so triggering them at all fails it. You can't even shoot them with arrows to clear the way. It's very lame, so just leave the crypt and find one without floor traps.

Unless I am mistaken if you trigger a trap AFTER picking up the Codex/Sarcophagi it does not fail the challenge. As you have entered the Tomb and collected the artifact it has already struck up as achieved for that tomb.

you cant set off the traps on the way out...this voids the achievement...happened to me...why risk it anyway....as i said before you can risk it on your first cyrpt...but not on the nxt 4...all that work....and then blow it on a bloody floor trap.....this should have been called the patience achievement or something like that...because that is how you get the awful achievement

Just got this on my first attempt. It's annoying, but it's not that bad. Just be patient and buff yourself up with some good cards. Don't take any risks. Sure it's boring. But it's better to be slow and do it once. Put on some music or a podcast or whatever. Have a friend come buy and hang out while you hack through and it'll be over before you can say screw this achievement.

Who ever made this achievement needs to be fired. No end of glitches, awful, glitchy mode. No end of random things that auto fail the challenge without having anything to do with it! Not getting hit by traps also counts as getting hit by traps. Seems legit. I can't believe this entire mode was greenlit. All it does is highlight every single flaw the game has.

Yeah this achievement is shit! It's stupid that you can't shoot them in the first place, not to mention how many times I accidentally ran n one and it activated but the challenge didn't fail? Then I creep by some and they activate for no reason and fail. This is a lot harder than it should be. The real issue is how time consuming this is and I've about run out of patience for this DLC. Such crap.

i fell your pain.....just dont bother with the crypts that have floor traps..they are designed to make you fail.....just head back out....and find new ones....i had to enter 9 cyrts before i got it....and it took me 8 in game days.....just follow my info above....use same cards as me.....and be patient....it may take you and hour or so.....

as for the one way to do it achievement.......use the Deep Freeze card, and the Immortal Guardian Master Outfit which grants you all skills if you want to do this challenge in a safe way.

Solution:
Select the Deep Freeze card, it is the key for the challenge/Achievement.
Don't forget to activate the Challenge "One way to do it." before starting the game.

Around the third day at night you'll be freezing, Lara will drop on her knees and start taking damage. When this happens, just shoot a Fire Arrow or trow an Lantern/Molotov directly bellow you, and the Achievement is yours.

Warning!
You'll most likely die while standing in the fire, but you'll still get the Achievement.
If you want to avoid dying, start with an Outfit that grants you all skills and Heal yourself before standing in the fire, the skill Strong Medicine will grant a you few seconds of invincibility which is enough to stand in the fire without dying and still completing the challenge.

I have just completed this with the save file delete trick, I had raider and skillful raider glitch on me, I deleted my save file loaded the game and cancelled the sync straight away, played and completed the challenges and the achievements popped. Just wanted to let anyone who had the same problem know.

keep trying you will get it.....its just kinda luck based...as i said it may take you over an hour or so to do it...i had to enter 9 crypts......but patience is the key here.....dont bother collecting any relics in the crypts either...just go straight for theC odices or Sarcophagi...dont bother doing anything else like killing soldiers or anything.....just keep running the opposite direction....until you see no icons on the screen....the game sort of quickly refreshes itself.....another tip is kill a few animals before entering crypts....so you have food when your finished....then onto nxt crypt...and so on....just keep repeating this.....if floor traps in cyrpt....trust me here...dont bother...just exit and on to the next....eventually you will find cypts without floor traps....most of these crypts....have a similar layout.....so you will become familiar with them....but renumber to scan every few feet....and also on way back out to....good luck guys

By rayh271 on 28 Jan 2016 14:58
got it today on 3rd attempt.....the cards i used were
1.toxic (unlimited poison arrows)
2.well read (all codec skills)....shows up all traps in red after you scan area
3.immortal guardian master outfit
4.small game hunter (small animals give twice as much food)...very handy this one
5.en fugeo (on fire and can ignite enemies with melee attack).....i dont think laura can freeze when using this....but can die of hunger....not 100% sure on this...but i was in the red...hunger icon flashing for a coupe of mins while i exited the tomb...then just shot few animals after exiting to top up food

just a few more tips......just keep running away from icons completely until the map is blank to locate crypts

definitely avoid crypts with floor traps....unless its your first tomb....might be worth the risk...i did this on my first one....just dont go to close to edge of them....and time the jump....some you can jump from ledge to ledge to avoid them completely....some are easier than others

watch out for traps on way out of crypts as well....some times the traps re spawn...nearly got caught out myself...just scan every few feet on way back out to

you can get heat from lanterns as well...and also burning bins/barrels....these barrels are usually near camps....were multiple soldiers are.......i didn't know this when i started

try keep your hunger bar on max as much as possible.....shoot animals on the move.....pretty easy to kill animals....with the toxic arrows....and also if you use my setup...you will get twice the amount of food from small animals

i came across a guy with the flamethrower....you cant kill them with toxic arrows...so best to avoid

finally as said on here take your time....patience is the key....i found 9 crypts in total......before i got the last one.....and i didn't finish until day 8

hope this helps...and good luck

Finally got it this morning after 7 game days. Here's a few tips.

Although not vital, having the ability to see the traps highlighted red makes it easier, particularly for spotting the foot traps, The Tomb Raider or Well Read card will give you this ability unless you are lucky enough to get it from opening a codex or sarcophagus. If these cards are single use don't back completely out of the game, use the restart option so you don't lose it.

Carry a lamp wherever possible as it means that you don't have to search for a camp fire or burning barrel as much. This allows you to cover ground a lot more quickly searching for crypts.

If you keep finding crypts with floor traps then it might be worth just restarting the game as it seems to re-randomise them,

Steer clear of Bears and Mountain Lions, but if you do get caught use your poison arrows and if necessary a shotgun. I used two poison arrows to take a bear out.

Be wary around ruins, as I have found bears hang out a lot around them. I started to steer clear of those as well.

Keep moving as much as possible, but make sure you always have an eye on warmth. Make sure you know where you can warm up if you are not carrying a lamp. Crypts always have a campfire in the entrance but it cant be guaranteed if you come across one with a floor trap at the entrance.

Make sure you always top up your wood for fires and arrows.

I was able to complete this on my first attempt with minimal difficulty. A lot of the information in the comments is fairly outdated and references being unable to destroy floor traps, something that you can now do...

With this in mind, I'm going to provide some tips that helped me beat this:

1. EQUIP THE CHALLENGE!!! I can't stress this enough, if it's not equipped you won't get the achievement.

2. Equip the Who Needs A Map challenge, this will trigger every time you discover a crypt, letting you know there is one nearby and will make finding them much easier.

3. Make sure to equip the Well Read card, this will make traps glow red when using your senses.

4. Always enter a crypt with max food! With the slow approach you will be taking in exploring the crypt your hunger is going to drop quite a bit before you are finished. I was almost killed in my third crypt when my hunger became critical...

5. The Toxicity card is your best friend and will grant unlimited poison arrows.

6. Take it slow and make sure to check passages before you squeeze through them as traps can be very close on the other side. I was almost caught out right at the end of my fourth crypt by this. Luckily I spotted it just in time and was able to leap away from it

7. Carry a lantern around with you whilst exploring, this will prevent your temperature from ever dropping and removes one thing to worry about. When exploring a crypt leave your lantern at the entrance near the fire pit you will find at the start of every crypt.

8. Avoid bears, mountain lions and flamethrower units... All can be killed, but the damage they can inflict and time spent eliminating them simply isn't worth it. If you see them, head in the other direction.

Hopefully the above tips help you deal with this annoying and incredibly stressful achievement.

One final tip I will provide which doesn't directly relate to this achievement is for acquiring cards:

1. Only ever buy the bronze pack, whilst it might sound tempting to be guaranteed a rare card, the price is a huge scam for one main reason. You can only have a certain amount of duplicates of each card (between 3 and 5)... You are very likely to get common cards from the Bronze pack, but what happens when you have the maximum amount of common cards? You will no longer get them and will start getting only uncommon cards. And when you have all of those? You will only get rare cards...
This may take a little longer to get the cards you want, especially if they are rare... But you will save a considerable amount of credits in the long run and end up with pretty much every card in the game as a result!

I just cannot get this one to pop: challenge active, completed and bar filled, shoot all traps. I trigger none. Won't pop. I even deleted all of my saves, including cloud. Still won't pop. Any ideas?

Edit: I should mention I'm on Series X with 4K patch. Maybe it's now bugged because of that, like the others. Frustrating.

Edit Edit: Okay, finally got it! For people attempting in the future, follow these addditional steps:

- Do it on a One/One S if possible. Seemingly won't unlock on anything that has the 4K patch (Series X for example).

- if you have previous playtime on the game, make sure you delete your save! You don't have to delete the cloud save (and I'd advise against it, because you lose all progress), but the local save needs to be blank: Make sure the game isnt running. Have the game selected on the mainscreen and go to more options (three line button on Xbox)>Manage game and add-ons>save data>delete all>delete all confirm. Remember, this only deletes local saves so you can get all your campaign progress saves back later. Now boot into the game. Once you get to the menu, it'll try and sync Xbox cloud saves. Cancel this. Go into Survival and select/activate all suggested pre-requisites in the guides above. Do the challenge like normal and it should finally unlock once the last tomb is raided. REMEMBER, once this is unlocked, quit out of the game and close, go back to the save section and follow the previous steps and delete again from console. Boot back into the game and let it sync and all your previous save data should be back.

Hope this helps someone in future. Good luck!

I can confirm that, in fact, codecs and sarcophagi do respawn if you get far enough from them, so, if you wanted, you could unlock this achievement by looting the same crypt five times. I got it using three crypts, looting one of them three times.

As you can see, I have three codecs (medium artifacts) and two sarcophagi (large artifacts), with only 4 crypts discovered (and had to skip one because it had a spike pit trap). The screencap is in spanish, sorry, but you can check the numbers on lines 2, 3 and 4 of the stats..

External image

Also, I believe that after last patch (Jan 26, 2016) the achievement has been made simpler, and the dreaded floor spike traps are less frequent. I'm not sure about this, but is my perception, having played before and after the patch.

So, here are a few main rules for this achievement:

- Obviously, select the "Skillful raider" challenge before starting the endurance run.
- "Well read" or "Tomb Raider" cards are almost fundamental, as they give you the ability of showing traps in red when you use your survival sense. Use one of those two cards. Cards like "Toxicity" / "Boomtown" for infinite arrows, any master outfit for all skills, "Small game hunter" or "Bloodlust" to help with hunger, or "Hot Blooded" to help with cold could make your life easier. My setup was: "Sacra Umbra Master Outfit" + "Small Game Hunter" + "Well read" + "Hot blooded" + "Toxicity".
- As the other guide says, avoid the crypts with spike pit floor traps. These can mess your achievement in a second, as some of those can't be avoided without triggering them, and some others will trigger even if you don't touch them. Also, shooting them voids the achievement. So, if you spot one of these, turn back and look for another crypt.
- You can shoot the pressure plate traps from a distance to avoid them easily.
- Don't get too confident after reaching the treasure, and keep looking for traps on your way out, because some of those could respawn.
- Once you have found and looted an easy crypt, run away from it in a straight line until the crypt marker disappears from your survival view. Try to have always on your mind the direction where the crypt is located. After the marker dissapears, go back. The marker will show again, and when you reach the crypt, the treasure will be lootable again. Be careful, because some traps will respawn, and new ones could appear in different places.
- If you go back and treasure hasn't respawned, go away again and wait a day or night before going back to the crypt.
- If you find a new crypt while running away from the previous one, check it, but make sure you know where the prior one is located from the entrance of the new crypt, so you can go back later. And remember, spike pit means turning back.
- Be careful: from day 5 onward, some enemies could spawn inside the crypts.

If you follow these rules, the achievement should pop easily. I did it first try, unlocking it during day 5.

this is great!!! How far do you have to go from one tomb and how long do you have ti wait before it resets and you can raid it again?? I've been trying my hand at this a few times and it was driving me bonkers because all the tomb had those impossible floor traps that are in really narrow spaces that you can't jump over with out activating them.

@CommanderDrizzle, you have to run away from the tomb until its marker doesn't show up anymore when using the survival instinct. Once it has dissapeared, the tomb resets.

Just to confirm that you are now able to shoot the floor traps - just got the achievement by doing this so it appears that the issue with floor traps voiding this have been patched.

So can this be done on co op?? One person takes point and scans for traps and then you open the codex?

I tried 4 times running back to a tomb. Traps reset, but the treasure isn't respawning.

I agree with the previous players, crypts do not reset anymore and this guide is not valid anymore. Best bet is to just shoot the spike traps and you're good.

you cannot shoot the spike floor traps (aka the pitfalls)
you can shoot the leg ones and the swinging spike ones

if there is water in the cave then there will be no pitfall traps
(on xbox 360 but probably the same for the one)

I got this while shooting the pitfall traps. I didn't test this thoroughly, but it seems the challenge fails if you're near the pitfall when it activates. Every time I shot them I'd make sure I was as far away as possible from them, and it didn't fail the challenge for me. I was a bit anxious when the cheevo didn't pop after the fifth codex, but it did unlock half a minute later more or less.

Fair play to the other guides. I'm not sure whether this is something they have introduced in a patch, but shooting the floor spike traps with an arrow does not fail the challenge. After taking a risk and trying this out, it made this achievement so much less stressful and was made a lot easier.

So firstly, make sure you enable the 'Skillful Raider' challenge before starting your endurance run. Secondly, I found the ideal card setup for endurance to be as follows:

• Any master outfit variant (so all skills are unlocked)
• Any master bow
• Bloodlust / Hot Blooded (for warmth and food regeneration, personal preference)
• Toxicity (unlimited poison arrows, makes you pretty much unstoppable)
• Well Read (gives all extra skills, namely one that makes all traps highlighted red while using survival instinct)

So, just walk around (making sure to keep warmth and food levels high at all times) and find 5 individual crypts. Use survival instinct at every chance possible to highlight all traps in red. Shoot the floor spike traps, and jump over the ankle and pressure pad traps. Find your way to the large artifact at the end and repeat until you have looted the contents of all five crypts, unlocking the achievement!

As I said, the knowledge of being able to shoot the floor traps made this ten times easier (and faster also). Hope this helps.

The above guides are great. I was able to get this achievement by only going to one crypt (the one with the jump into water). My setup was Hot Blooded, Bloodlust, Well Read, a master outfit, and an upgraded bow. Hot Blooded and Bloodlust deal with hunger and cold in the same way, and Well Read helps you see the traps. You should be spamming Survival Instincts just so you can avoid any traps and starting over. I have never encountered a pit trap at this crypt, and I only had to deal with pressure traps, if any. I would recommend only going to this crypt, getting the sarcophagus or Codex, resetting the crypt, and repeating until you get the achievement. Here is a video of me going through the first part of the crypt.

If you do not have the same experience I had with this crypt layout, please let me know in comments.

*****Edit*****
I've been told that there might have been a patch recently that does not recent the crypt by going far away enough from it after leaving. You should be able to recent any crypt by walking away from it outside, and once it doesn't appear as a waypoint on Survival Instincts, turn back around and go inside, the treasure "unopened." The crypt should remain at the same physical location each new run, but that might not be the case anymore. Keep me updated if resetting the crypt no longer works, and I'll make appropriate adjustments in the guide.

This achievement requires getting five crypts treasures (Big or Medium Artifacts) without activating any trap.

The easiest way to get it, is using a card that grant you all codecs upgrades, this way you see the traps as red when using survival instinct, but you can still do it without these cards.

All you have to do is hit the traps before going trough the crypt.

Even Collapsing Floors, the most annoying traps, can be hit by arrows and that don't ruin the achievement.

I done it this way. I tried using the other guides and evading crypts that had bad layouts, but it took forever to find perfect crypts, then I started hitting collapsing floors and going trough all crypts very attentive and got it in about 20 minutes.

Keywords are attention and patience.

This achievement requires getting through five crypts and opening the treasure at the end without triggering any traps. Make sure you enable the challenge in the expedition menu before starting.

When you're in a crypt, always look down at the floor and avoid sprinting in areas you haven't been. Be especially careful when climbing up a ledge, as some traps are placed against the edge.

There are essentially two things to look out for: leg traps and collapsible floors.

Leg traps are simple to avoid by shooting them from a distance with an arrow, which will disable them.

The floors are a bit trickier and require careful jumping, usually from a sprint. If they collapse at all, even if you don't fall, the challenge will fail. And it can be extremely risky jumping them. Therefore, the safest way to do the challenge is to turn around and leave if you see one of these. Some layouts don't include this particular trap, and bailing instead of trying to jump them remove the biggest risk.

Note that, if you're having trouble finding five unique crypts with no floor traps, codices and sarcophagi can respawn if you run far enough away.

You need to equip a card that allow you to gain all abilites, and one that gives you unlimited arrows. This way, traps will be marked in red and you'll disable them using arrows.

Challenges: Skillful Raider, Who Needs a Map?
Recommended Cards: Tomb Raider or whatever other outfit that gives you the Bright Eyes skill such as Sacra Umbra, Hope's Bastion, Immortal Guardian etc. Toxicity is also useful to kill animals for food when you need it.

This will probably take around 30 minutes depending on your luck in finding Crypts. Codices and Sarcophagi are found at the end of a Crypt and you can only find one of them in each Crypt. In total you will have to find 5 Crypts to complete the challenge and unlock the trophy.

Make sure to also have max or close to hunger and warmth when you enter a Crypt in case it takes you a while to get the artifact and escape; you don't want to starve to death in there.

Take your time going through each Crypt, use Survival Instincts with the Bright Eyes skill to highlight any traps and trigger them from a distance by shooting the pressure plates, your cross-hair will turn red when you are aiming at a trap. You can shoot the rubble above a pitfall to trigger it and simply jump over them to avoid voiding the challenge/trophy.

When leaving the Crypt make sure that you don't fall in to any pits you have may triggered earlier, take it slow and you will be fine.

Challenges to Select:

  • Raider
  • Skillful Raider

Recommended Cards to use:

  • Tomb Raider: Grants all Brawler, Hunter, Survivor and Codex Skills
    or
  • Well Read: Grants all Codex Skills

Having the Codex Skill "Bright Eyes" is helpful in seeing traps in crypts when you use survival instincts.

You probably will have to find more then 5 Crypts in order to complete this challenge; reason is because of floor traps, they seem to always trigger and making you fail the challenge no matter how far you jump over it. If you see one in a Crypt I would turn around and find another Crypt to raid. Some Crypt Entrances has a floor trap, so be careful when going into one.

The achievement will unlock once you open the 5th Codices or Sarcophagi without setting off any trap in Crypts.

I killed several evenings to get this trophy. The challenge says "don't fall into the traps." It follows that they can be activated. I checked, everything works, shoot the traps and that’s it, the way is clear. If you are not careful, you can fall into a hole, be careful.

Now regarding the cards:
- Choose a suit with fully upgraded skills.
- Fully upgraded bow
- Killing small animals gives you more food
- Fire damage and explosions heat up faster
- All skills of the codex

In this situation, you just need to run constantly in search of the crypt

Small animals can always be found along the road, and if they are frozen, then we shoot a fiery arrow at our feet and look at the heat indicator and screen status (wait a little while the indicator is restored and immediately run away, otherwise death)

You don’t need to upgrade your skills or bow either, the only thing you need to do is collect wood and oil, but all this is found along the way. It’s better to upgrade your backpack, you won’t need the rest of the weapons.

In the crypt we actively use the survival instinct, this will help illuminate the path and see traps.

Choose the card "ERUDITY". This map highlights all the traps in the crypt in red, all you have to do is activate the trap with a bow shot and run further

In order not to be amazed next time, understand the question in more detail; at the time of writing the morph hint, everything was as he described; later a patch was released.

After entering the crypt, if you activate the trap, the challenge will immediately fail. After opening the sarcophagus or codex in the crypt on the way back to the exit, activating traps will not reset the challenge.

The hint from AnKa is incorrect. Even on the way back, you CANNOT activate traps, the test will be reset. Empirically tested.

Traps can be activated with a shot at any time, but if you activate them, for example, by stepping on a collapsing floor and without even falling on the stakes, you absolutely cannot, the test will fail and along with it the trophy.

At the moment, you can disarm all the traps in the tombs with a bow, the main thing is to stand at a safe distance. Doing this will not fail the test. Don't try to jump over pits with traps, they almost always work. Sometimes, on the way back from the tomb, new pit traps appear where there were none before.

The trophy is not the fastest and most enjoyable, we MUST set the Skillful Raider test (matches the description of the trophy and the trophy will not be counted without the test) and preferably the following cards:

1) Endless poisoned arrows - kills almost all enemies with one hit (bears and pumas need more).
2) Endless fire arrows - we shoot at your feet and warm up, but we lose health
3) Any suit with all level 3 skills.
4) A map for all skills from the codex - traps are highlighted more clearly, it’s easy to spot them.

It is also advisable to set the “discover 5 crypts” test; with each new crypt, a message about its discovery will pop up.

We start endurance (any difficulty will do) and start running in any direction, the main thing is to where there are no points of interest such as a camp, ruins, etc.

Sooner or later we will find the crypt, begin to carefully descend and constantly use our survival instinct. There is only one task - you can’t fall into the trap yourself, you can activate them from afar! You need to go through the entire crypt, open the sarcophagus or codex and go back out.

I found three types of traps:
1) A slab that activates ceiling spikes - we shoot from afar at the slab (you can use any arrows from a bow). The trap has been deactivated and will no longer interfere.
2) A trap on the floor - we just jump over it with a running start, it’s not difficult.
3) The floor with spikes is clearly visible, we shoot from afar, the floor collapses. We just jump over or go around the wall.

On the way back you also need to be careful and it is best to go the same way you came.

You need to go through 5 crypts in one outing. One mistake and you'll have to start over.

Be careful. The trap can be generated at the very beginning, before the fire, right at the entrance. This is how I got a floor with spikes. Otherwise you can run carefree and not notice.
