How to unlock the Combat Specialist achievement in Rise of the Tomb Raider - Definitive Guide

First off, don't forget to activate the challenge when setting up the match.
It's quite easy to get this achievement if you play on adventurer difficulty.
Even though, the last part can be a little bit tricky while you're shootting the cylinders and dealing with the enemies.

I recommend using a card for a full upgraded shotgun and for infinite poison arrows. Use the shotgun to deal with regular enemies and shoot the cylinders. Rely on the poison arrows to deal with shielded foes. But if everything goes wrong and you think you're about to die (as everything goes black and white), just quit the game. Although this is an expedition raid, your progress is saved and you can choose to continue from the expedition menu. That means if you quit just before dying, you'll be able to load the game from the last checkpoint, avoiding to lose the challenge.

On the last section destroying pumps is a save point. Using The Malik's tip of quitting works great because it puts you back with all of your stats. Takes the worry of getting to the end and dying, like I did my first attempt before reading this.

I'm really glad to help, Original Dr T! It's not that hard to beat this expedition in adventurer difficulty withou dying, but it's quit good to have a backup plan if anything goes wrong on the last section...

I was only able to 'activate' this challenge if the difficulty setting was set to "survivor" which makes it way more difficult. The zombies/infected keep rushing at me all the time as soon as I kill one of them.
Setting difficulty to 'adventurer' I wasn't able to activate that challenge. It was greyed out (wel red in fact).
Maybe because of some patch? What about you guys?
The quit out method helped so far when I was getting overwhelmed, as it makes the situation calm/stable again...

EDIT: Never mind. I started with a dummy account and found out there was another 'Combat Specialist' non Survivor difficulty related. So there's more than one challenge card "combat specialist" to pick from

And it glitched on me. Second broken achievement I've had with this game.
Had to delete my save, upon completing a run I had to open the challenge menu in the victory screen in order for it to pop.

This didn't unlock for me initially, then the next time I switched my console on (a few hours later) it popped.

Thanks so much, this is a great technique. By switching to Adventurer, i didnt have to employ the quit before dying method, but knowing i could removed the pressure and was able to get in and out and pop the cheeve. Thumbs up on this solution!

Fairly simple achievement. First off, make sure you activate the challenge first at the menu so you get credit for it. You might want to also activate the challenge for shutting down all the towers with no mistakes so you can kill two birds with one stone.

You can set the difficulty to Adventurer, equip your strongest bow in your deck, and equip unlimited poison arrows to make enemy encounters a breeze. The only parts where you may run into trouble are when you're shutting down the towers (the directions are simple to follow, however) and also the final objective when you
.

from what I can tell, there is no time limit when you're doing the last objective, but just remember that after you're done, you have to swing to safety to the middle platform to GET TO DA CHOPPA!

would be easy if game didn't purposely kill Lara. twice while zip lining she missed 2nd line even though I'm hitting button to jump(A), another time while in central bldg, you first have to jump and wall jump up to ladder, I was on target and game sent me an inch to right of ladder even though i jumped in front of ladder, cheap kills like this suck

In order to earn this trophy, you must pick the challenge first. It won't be difficult to stay alive especially if you play at Adventurer difficulty but don't let the difficulty fool you as the enemies hit very hard and you might die if you get swarmed and trapped into a corner. To get this trophy simply finish the mission without dying once. The trophy will unlock at the score screen.

The hardest part is the final battle which spawns hordes gunning for you, all the while you're trying to get something done. See below for a full run-down of the final battle.

The final battle involves shooting moving pump valves in 3 corners of the room, while hordes of enemies rush your location. For this battle the shotgun works best as the area is small and enclosed.

In each raised corner where you have to do a double wall jump to get to, or go up the curved stairs on each side, are a series of moving pumps. To clear each corner you have to shoot the exposed pumps on each side, then repeat for the other 2 corners. Instinct helps to highlight the moving valves.

Pay attention to the enemies that rush you on all 3 sides and make sure you clear the entry-ways of enemies before you shoot the pumps. Remember to use and abuse heal to avoid dying. If you move fast and shoot the pumps quickly you can better avoid getting swarmed and trapped, as the melee attacks hit hard even at Adventurer difficulty.

Once all 3 pump areas are destroyed, climb up onto the raised platform in the centre, and look for the exit to the side, where the helicopter can be seen waiting for you. Make a dash for the helicopter, kill the last 2 enemies blocking your way, then jump onto the helicopter to complete the mission.

Challenge to Select

  • Combat Specialist

Simply shutdown all three chemical production towers as part of the main objectives in this DLC. Once that has been down, you must shutdown the central core and escape via the helicopter without dying.

It doesn't matter as to which difficulty you do this on.

One moment where you can die is if you slide off the roof if you actively move along tall buildings.
The second moment is at the third station. When you blow up the pumps, run along the edge, as there is a hole in the middle. And in the chaos that is happening at the station by this time (10 zombies rushing after you + everyone is in smoke) you can fall.

To simplify the task, you can make “your own” checkpoints, go through one tower, go out, throw the save into the cloud or onto a flash drive, and so on with all three towers, and at the end, before the last central tower, you can drop the save so as not to replay from the beginning if you lose.

For easier passage:
• select difficulty TRAVELER
• buy red card packs (one pack costs 20,000 credits) in hopes of getting a card with endless arrows (simple, fire, poison, explosive)
