How to unlock the Witch Trials achievement in Rise of the Tomb Raider - Definitive Guide

There are only two Score Attacks added with this DLC. Both instances require a score of 32000 for the gold medal, and both are extremely easy. If you just want the achievement and not a huge leaderboard score, follow these tips and you'll get it first try.

By gold-starring one of the challenges, you'll unlock
Rise of the Tomb RaiderWitch-HuntThe Witch-Hunt achievement in Rise of the Tomb Raider worth 52 pointsBaba Yaga: Complete a Wicked Vale Score Attack with a gold score

Score attack 1: Return To Wicked Vale

This score attack consists in just a puzzle, as the base game Tomb-based score attacks were. So, as it happened in the base game, you can get a huge score boost without negative effects, as there are no enemies or traps. An optimal setup is the following one:

External image

· First Aid
· Frailty
· Holstered
· One Life To Live
· Struggle

Go to leaderboards, then use cn_LB or cn_RB to find the corresponding one for this score challenge. Some of the top spots use this card set, and you can play it spending 2000 credits only.

As soon as the game starts, pick as many orbs as you can while mantaining a combo, and after that, shoot as many lanterns as possible. After doing that, you'll have more than enough points, so take all the time you need to solve the puzzle.

Score attack 2: Witch Cave

For this one, you don't need to use a lot of difficult cards for a huge bonus. You can play as easy as possible and still get a gold medal. This is the setup I used, playing in the easiest difficulty.

External image

· Pioneer Outfit: Master
· Gambler
· Unlucky
· Evasive maneuvers
· Boomtown

You can change Boomtown for Toxicity for the same result, the Pioneer Outfit Card for another Master Outfit card, or even change Gambled for Armor-Plated for an extra 50% bonus.

Anyways, try to rack a few combos after each time you burn the witch, and you'll get this easily. For example, as soon as the fight starts, kill all minor enemies, run around picking a few orbs, and then shoot as many lanters as possible before you lose your combo. After burning the witch for the second time, swim to the platform, pick a few orbs and then shoot some lanterns. Do this when you see an opportunity, and the gold medal will come easily.

Just wanted to share a bug I encountered. When I was doing the boss fight, just before the final hit, witch turned UPSIDE DOWN and started gliding downwards and I lost sight of her hahaha.

In case you would prefer visual aid, I found these HQ vids on YouTube which you would've found anyways.
I'm only linking, I take no credits for it.
Therefore, a big thanks goes to the author Icarus Wings who took the time to record them and share these with the world on YouTube.

The thing I personally like about vids, is that they give a good idea of what bonus cards were used, what the level looks like, what weapons (if applicable) to use, which path to take to build up and maintain the score combo multiplier, etc.

Alright then, on with the vids...

Return to the Wicked Vale (Gold 32.000 points - Par time 5:30)

Witch's Cave (Gold 32.000 points - Par time 15:20)

You will have noticed that this guy is awfully good in building up a high multiplier.
Don't fret if you happen to lose your combo.
It happened to me a couple of times (especially on the Witch's Cave level) and yet I managed to get gold just by following the same route.
After all, I was only interested in getting the achievement, not ending 1st place on the leaderboards :)

Any suggestions to improve this guide are welcome!

Thanks for voting thumbs up if this guide was helpful.

I wish you all the best of luck to get gold on all the levels of this fabulous game!

Return to Wicked Vale was EZ to get gold using the methods in the solutions. However, Witch Cave I messed up so bad, died a million times, got lost, forgot the way up, etc, and i still easily got Gold by more than double what i needed. I didnt even have all the suggested cards, and even used unlimited fire arrows and still got it. I used the following cards for witch cave: Gambler, Unlucky, Evasive Maneuvers, Immortal Guardian Master outfit, Blazing Inferno.

There are only two Baba Yaga Levels and the requirement for a gold score is a joke in my opinion. You need a score of 32,000 to get a Gold Score on both levels.

Level: Return to the Wicked Vale
Difficulty: Doesn't Matter
Challenges: Doesn't Matter
Recommended Cards to Use

  • One Life to Live
  • First Aid

Refer to "Complete History of Witchcraft" for a video guide on how to complete this level.

You will need to complete and get gold medals in 2 levels, Return to the Wicked Vale and Witch's Cave.

The first one takes place where you have to activate the Ancient Lift. You should know how to resolve this puzzle by now, so complete the level as fast as possible trying to pick every blue bonus. The key here is to not lose your multiplier, when you're about to lose it and there is no bonus near you, try to shoot a lantern. The level will end when you activate the lift.

The second one takes place during the Witch fight. Try to pick as many blue bonuses as possible before killing the enemies, that way you will get a bunch of points when you kill them. You don't have to worry much about anything else, this is pretty easy to get the gold medal in this level.

You can use the same Leaderboards trick mentionned in the main trophy guide:

There is another trick to make this a lot easier, credit to Aruberikku for finding this:

From the main menu go to Leaderboards, then press till you find the level you want to try. Now press on someone with a high score. It will show you the details of their run, including which cards they used. If you'd like to run a mission with the same cards, just press again and select "Yes" on the confirmation. This will cost 2,000 credits but you can use the same cards as the person on the leaderboard without owning them yourself.
