How to unlock the King Midas achievement in Risen - Definitive Guide

This achievement along with

RisenMoneybagsTriRockThe Moneybags achievement in Risen worth 151 points100,000 gold coins obtained

has had it's requirement changed. Despite what the achievement description says, you now need to hold 300,000 gold coins in your inventory.

At the end of my playthrough, after very thoroughly exploring and killing hostiles, looting all chests and using almost all pickpocketing opportunities, my inventory sold for less than 40,000.

The only way you'll get this much gold is using an exploit.

Collect all the Brugleweed ('Weed') you can find in the world and keep it. Return to the Bandit Camp, and seek the character Rhobart. He'll pay you 70 gold for a stack of ten weeds. You now can attack Rhobart, then loot his unconcious body. Once he wakes up he won't be hostile, and you can re-sell the weed. Rinse and repeat this cycle for as long as it takes. The more weed you hold, the more gold you earn - I sold 6 stacks at a time for 420 gold.

Be cautious as you can murder Rhobart when he lies on the ground, thus ending your income source. I recommend saving regularily and using multiple slots.

To speed up the process make sure to get as much stacks as possible. I collected all plants through the game and also bought 4 pieces from Obel each chapter so i ended up with 91 pieces/9 stacks at the end of the game.

Wait... they made it so you can only get these gold achievements by using an exploit? That's hilariously bad. Oh well... to the grind I go headspin

It's not the only way. It's cumulative across playthroughs. But playing through it 8 times for one achievement is not exactly fun.

Can confirm the solution below works best. Give Rhobert the weed, knock him out to get them back, run away until he disappears and head back to repeat a million times. I was able to find exactly 89 weeds throughout the game, with 19 coming from buying from Rhobert's assistant, leaving 1 short to turn in 90 at a time sadly.

Doing 80 turns at a time, starting with 23,000 gold in my inventory and timing myself from beginning to end, this took me 4 hours 29 minutes to get to the final 300,000. A shame the original method doesn't work and the dev's are to lazy to patch it, as it only took ten minutes or so.

You can get 90+? shock

I found 63/64 that spawn in the world according to worldofrisen.de. I also cleaned out the farm hand vendor in every chapter, still barely got to 80. Had to kill an order NPC and then leg it in Harbor Town for my last one.

Just a small addition to TriRock's great guide about using the Rhobart exploit to get money.

Rather than waiting for him to get up, you can speed things up a bit by walking away a bit, and he will respawn standing up. This method also helped me not get distracted by other things while waiting for him to get up each time laugh

I used the small circular patch of weeds in the swamp as a marker to get him to respawn. Here's a clip:

Hopefully this gets patched so it can be done via the save/reload method again.

Note that how much gold you have attained is tracked separate of your game status. Getting 100 gold in one game, reloading or starting a new game, and getting the same 100 gold will still count as having gotten 200 gold. Do not worry about not spending the gold either, as it only tracks the accumulation of gold, not what amount you have at a given time.

The easiest way to get all three of the gold collecting achievements is to play through as normal, saving up items in your inventory. Gold will seldom be a problem and you won't have to sell much of anything unless you play a Mage with limited Mana reserves. Towards the end of the game, save your game close to a merchant of any type, then sell your entire inventory. This will easily net you 10-25,000 gold depending on how much you kept around for this. Reload your game and do the process again, until Moneybags and King Midas unlocks. Well-to-do will probably have unlocked very early in the game, from quest rewards.

The achievement is cumulative. It is not necessary to have the entire amount at once.
