How to unlock the Solid Gold, Baby! achievement in Rock Band 2 - Definitive Guide

Play the Song So Watcha Want by the Beastie Boys with the Microphone on Expert. All you gotta really do is talk through the song and you'll get 100% no problem.

If you haven't gotten the Flawless Singing Achievement either, you can get a 2 for 1 on this. This is how I got the gold star.

I don't know the true math off the top of my head, but I believe getting a Gold Star rating is The score to get 5 stars x 1.45

Pretty much, it all lies within the points. Getting gold stars doesn't mean getting 100%. It's all about keeping your multiplier and using your Overdrive at the right moments (see a bunch of chords coming at you on that guitar part? Overdrive should be used).
As always, it's best to play a song that you're familiar with since it'll help you keep your multiplier.

Or, you can do the expert vocals for "So Wha'cha Want?" The song is easy to sing and you'll get gold stars as long as you activate your overdrive at the right times.

EDIT: I completely forgot to add something that is essential to know. I order to get Gold Stars, you have to be playing on the Expert difficulty. Thanks to CKinAL for the reminder.

Another easy way to do this is to play So Whatcha Want on expert bass. If you use the overdrive a few times, you can pull this off (I got it near the end of the song). If you want, strum up only and try for Flawless Groove while you're at it.

Definitely the best song for that! The same two easy notes over and over again! The only challenge is to not fall asleep ;)

There Are Two Easy Songs For This;
Visions, On Mic, Because You Can Say whatever You Want In Any Pitch And You Will 100% it Easily

Or, So Watcha Want On Base. It Takes Awhile, Because You Need To Deploy Overdrive Without Missing A Note, Even Though Theres No More Than 2 Notes At A Time.

I Will Post BOTH My Guides, Even Though They're Amateur:

One of the best songs to get this in is "So What'cha Want" by the Beastie Boys on Bass.

Simply follow these instructions and you'll get your gold star.

1) The song is almost completely made up of two notes, break, two notes, break, two notes, break, etc. etc. and so forth.
2) After you hit the star power a second time, activate it on the next set of two. The power should sustain you through another set of activation notes and then run out.
3) After you charge up your star power a second time, do the same as step 2. The power should sustain you through another set of activation notes and then run out.
4) When it runs out this time, wait until it charges 3 times (three sets of activation notes), then activate it on the next set of two. The power should sustain you through another set of activation notes and then run out.
5) If you've gotten 100% of the notes so far, you'll get your gold star with about 30 seconds remaining in the song.

I was able to pull this off from a FREE DLC song; "Charlene" by Stephen and the Colberts. There were three people playing the song total, all on Expert (bass, guitar and drums).

I can't remember the first song of our two song set list, but I'm pretty sure it was one of the Beastie Boys tracks. We didn't gold star it, but when playing "Charlene" I think there were a total of three missed notes total from all players.

Ended up gold starring it, and not even realizing it. We all thought we had to get 100%, but as stated in the other solutions, that's not the case.

The song "Charlene" is also a great choice for the upstroke achievement on bass. But that's a solution for a different achievement.

If you have imported songs from LEGO Rock Band, then playing expert drums on Ride a White Swan is probably the easiest way to get this achievement. Its just a constant pattern of red-blue combos and yellow with a few freestyle sections thrown in. No kick pedal even. So easy that you can even do it using the XYAB buttons on the drumkit.

I got this with the song "We Will Rock You" imported from Lego Rock Band. All you have to do is play it on expert bass. The first pattern is Green, Green, Orange. Then after the second chorus of "We Will Rock You", the pattern changes to Green, Green, Blue & Orange. When it does this activate overdrive and you will get the gold star. You can also go for the "Flawless Groove" achievement in this song, just make sure you are upward strumming.

* If you're going to vote negative please leave a reason why in the reply so I can improve this solution.

Basically, you want a song that you are good at. Start it on expert. I did it on Nine in the Afternoon by Panic! At The Disco. You need to get close to 100% and use star power efficiently. I also got it on, crushcrushcrush by Paramore. You need 104,000+ to get gold. It's not terribly hard, but not a breeze. Get to know the songs, and find a good stream of chords to unleash your full overdrive bar on it. Use that whammy bar on the sustained overdrive notes!

You can unlock this and the Flawless Singing achievement at the same time by singing "Dawn Patrol" by Megadeth as it contains only talkie parts (no pitch requirement).

Just be sure NOT to activate your overdrive early. Wait until the part that goes "Pretending not to notice..." to activate overdrive (scream into the microphone).

You should end up with (or close to) 90,000 points and 5 gold stars!

You will get this while going for the Flawless Groove, Flawless Fretwork, Flawless Drumming, and Flawless Singing trophies. Gold starring a song is the best rating you can earn on a song and it feels great when you get one on a hard song.

To gold star a song, you need to be playing on expert and get around 1.4X the five star score(it has been made easier since RB1). When you're playing you should see a star meter under your score, a circle goes around the star as you get more points. As you fill up the circle, the star becomes whole and it moves onto the next one. Once you get 5 stars, and you hit the Gold Star score, your stars turn gold. Do it on Expert vocals with the same technique you did to get Flawless Singing, the Beastie Boys song, just use starpower whenever you get it.

To get a gold star you need to play on expert and get 1.4X five stars as a result of the game. As you play, you should be able to see a circled star under your glasses. As you gain points, the circle will fill; after it is filled, the star will become whole and you will start working on the next one. Once you reach five stars and reach the additional points required to reach gold status, your stars will become gold. The easiest way to do this is on an expert vocalist or bass player on "So Wat'cha Want" by the Beastie Boys, just use "starpower" as soon as you get the chance.
