How to unlock the Drum Roll, Please! achievement in Rock Band 3 - Definitive Guide

I found this easiest on Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen. This has to be done on expert drums. From what I hear this can't be done on Expert Pro. This has to be done on Rock Band 3 songs or new Rock Band 3 dlc that has the new type of drum rolls. There is only 1 drum roll towards the beginning of the song on the yellow drum pad. Beware about 2/3rds of the way through is kind of a tough drum part so I suggest saving your overdrive until then, fortunately it does not last too long.

An alternative is Cold as Ice - Foreigner. There are a few rolls in this song some on the red pad some on the yellow pad. Rolls were tougher for me on this song but the song difficulty was easier than Bohemian Rhapsody.

Just want to point out that this is not awarded when successfully completed on pro-drums.

I picked Train Kept a Rollin and hit the drum roll in that and didn't get the achievement. I wasn't really expecting to, but I was still disappointed. I mean, come on the section is called "Drum Roll". Come on, fair go! laugh

I should add it has to be the new drum rolls from Rock Band 3 songs only.

Thanks for that, as my existing drum kit's red doesn't work, and was wondering if no-fail worked. Turns out it does! Sweet! Now.. to save for pro drums.. >.<

Could mention that the 'no-fail' option can be used if you suck at drums like me =)

I found Space Oddity by David Bowie to have 2 easy short blue rolls. I can't remember the Bohemian Rhapsody chart so I don't know if they're easier or not.

@Brad2125: Good call on Space Oddity. I nailed both rolls my first time through.

It sounds like you must finish the song for this achievement to unlock, although it's not stated anywhere.

I'm also curious as to what "nailing a drum role" actually entails.

Drum rolls are a new feature in Rock Band 3, you will know a drum roll because of the length of the notes. Kind of like a sustain for a guitar, only instead of holding like a guitar you keep hitting the pad featured until the end of it. Basically to hit a drum roll just hit all of the notes present in the roll. The achievement should unlock after completing the song.

A good song for this would be Walkin on the Sun by Smash Mouth. It's basically a long sustain like holding a chord or note on guitar. If you've played the Guitar Hero series recently it was on a couple of games as a note you just hammer on the whole way, the rolls in Rock Band are a little different because you can't just pound away and expect to hit it, you have to hit the notes in it like they are meant to. Overall, it shouldn't be too hard for even the newest players.

Walking on the sun is way easier and quicker than any other songs I've heard mentioned. Thumbs up!

I've found it easier to do with just one stick and starting to hit the pad before the drum roll, just to make sure I hit all the notes from the very first one

Yeah, worked well. Got it on my second go on Walking in the Sun and I'm no great drummer.

I thought I completely blew the drum roll, I'm almost certain I did not hit all of the notes, yet, the achievement STILL popped using this method! Walking on the Sun with no fail turn on, expert. Wow!

This must be done on Expert Drums (not Pro) and I believe the easiest song to do this on is Low Rider by War. It is right in the beginning of the song so if you mess up you can just start it over (no waiting halfway through the song). The actual song itself is a little tricky but you just have to make it through to get the achievement.

Thanks, got this after a few tries. It's quite tricky to do but as it's right at the start of the song you can practice it a lot. Bohemian Rhapsody is probably easier but you have to wait a minute until you get to the actual drum roll. Btw, you should mention using No-Fail mode as I used it to get through the rest of the song (I'm crap at drums) and it still unlocked.

This cannot be the best solution. I tried it several times and the roll is way to fast. Have to take another song.

I had no trouble with this and I can't get more than 3-4 stars on songs on medium. You can have No Fail on if you're afraid you will fail and it will still pop at the end of the song.

Bohemian Rhapsody is fine, as well as low rider and cold as ice. But if you're quite horrible at drums like myself, you have the option to turn on no-fail. This does not affect the achievement whatsoever. So if you want to, you can nail the opening drum roll on Low Rider, and only focus on that. Once you've hit it, then you can just sit back and stop playing. Of course this would be your last resort if anything else. This has to be on expert from what I've heard though.

This may sound daunting for newer Expert players who may have struggled with the previous drum roll system (namely, me), but keep in mind that the new marked drum rolls required to hit for this achievement are significantly more lenient in their timing requirements. Essentially, you can just spam randomly on the one roll and you should get it no problem, which you couldn't do before. It doesn't take a lot of precision and they are far more forgiving than before.
Lasso's is by far the easiest as the notes are more spaced out in the drum roll.

Good luck, and I hope this eliminates the pressure somewhat.

I do this achievement on Low Rider, but you can do this achievement on Lasso its easy, the easy way is in 3 musics

Bohemian Rhapsody, Cold as Ice and Low Rider

If you are having problems with the speed of the rolls, just tap your fingers instead of using drum sticks. You can tap three or four fingers if you really need to. Overhits don't count against you. I did the drum roll in Low Rider by tapping the second and third fingers on my left hand.

Turn on No Fail mode if you need help passing the rest of the song.

Drum roll is a new game mechanic on Rock Band 3. You'll need to play on Expert to get this one. It can't be done on Pro Drums. Just play "Low Rider" and you'll see a drum roll right after the cowbell section.

Ignore the green notes at the start (cowbell) and wait for the drum roll to come up. Just concentrate on the blue pad and use both drumsticks to hit the pad as fast as you can. You'll know if you nail the drum roll by looking at your multiplier. If you nailed it, you'll have a 3x multiplier. If you don't hit the pad fast enough you'll lose your streak at some point during the drum roll.

You'll need to complete the song to get the trophy.

A drum roll is a series of repeated notes contained within a solid outline. These only appear on Expert drums though so you will need to play at a high level to unlock it naturally. By far the easiest drum roll in the game is at the end of Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before. It is an easy song, and the drum roll is only five slow alternating yellow and blue notes. 25 or 6 to 4 also has an easy drum roll but it is at the end of a much harder song so No Fail might be required for that one.
