How to unlock the Rock Band Immortal achievement in Rock Band 3 - Definitive Guide

Many tricks can be done in order to work in your favour, although you still need to be fairly good, and have the set of instruments.

Note: Getting 5 stars online in a band will NOT count.

First, I am going to assume most people are best on guitar, for simplicity's sake. This achievement is easiest if you play most (at least 50) of the songs on guitar. (You can choose to play drums or vocals, but you may limit yourself in the end, when only a few songs remain and they are very difficult on drums especially).

KEYS ON GUITAR, VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
This ONLY counts if you earn the "Guitar Immortal" challenge. Once this happens, it will automatically allow you to choose guitar/bass/keys every time you choose a song. You CANNOT do this by selecting "All Instruments Mode" from the menu, this WILL NOT count.

To earn the "Guitar Immortal", you must "Earn 5 stars on any 50 songs in Rock Band 3 on Medium Guitar (or earn 3 stars on a higher difficulty)"

Songs:
Llama - Expert Vocals is easiest here. Try it a few times, and continue playing if you miss some phrases. If you are a good guitar player, you can do Expert Keys on Guitar, and if you are a very good player, you will be able to do it on bass with the right star power path. Otherwise, guitar and drums require serious skill.

Freebird - Expert Drums is the easiest for this. Make sure to turn on "No Fail" (as it makes no difference towards the achievement, and there is a tricky part). Otherwise, you can try keys on guitar once it's unlocked.

Caught In A Mosh - Expert Vocals, dont let the tier system trick you, its half a talky part, and half very level singing. Most people (even bad singers) can get it in 2-5 tries. Otherwise, expert bass or guitar are almost the same, and both very very tricky.

Antibodies - Easiest on Drums. Although the info reads Tier 3 on guitar, this song is hard to 5 star on guitar, due to a fast-strumming end. Otherwise, expert vocals are rated very easy. You can also try keys on guitar, once you have unlocked it. (Refer to above bolded note)

Crazy Train - Expert Bass is VERY easy.

Beast and the Harlot - This one is up in the air. I personally found it easy for expert guitar (and bass) 5 star, but some people are seeming to have trouble. If this is the last song you have left and CANNOT get expert guitar or bass, then try vocals. Its one of the harder ones, but you might get it, if you are really struggling with the guitar. Drums will be nearly impossible for most players.

Lastly, this achievement does stack with the Hard one, so focus on getting everything done on expert if you can, and the other ones will come with it. You will also unlock the following achievements on the road to this achievement if you did not have them:
Rock Band 3Rock Band LegendThe Rock Band Legend achievement in Rock Band 3 worth 99 points5 Star every song in Rock Band 3 on Hard.

Rock Band 3Rock Band MasterThe Rock Band Master achievement in Rock Band 3 worth 44 points5 Star on Medium (or 3 Star on a higher difficulty) any 50 Rock Band 3 songs.

I’m about to give a secret that I think no one else has come forward with. USE 2 MICS!

Let me explain, I was messing around with the vocals for Beast and The Harlot and Roundabout. I was going to record myself doing harmonies so I only had to sing the low parts. When I had the main vocals recorded and after failing to sing while the recording played I left my 2nd mic plugged in and went back to singing solo vocals. I noticed my 2nd mic was picking up sound and had an idea. I was going to play the recording I made with one mic and sing with the other. Lo and behold it worked! I basically picked up the slack my recording left behind.

In short, record yourself singing solo expert vocals for whatever song you’re stuck on and play it while singing with a second mic. (One mic uses the recording and you sing with the other on solo vocals). You only need one controller and It will count progress towards the achievement. Granted, the recording has to be a good one. I recorded exactly a 4 star run of Beast and The Harlot, so you have to put in a lot of effort. But it does make things a bit easier.

I would also recommend going for this achievement while doing the road challenges and leave the difficult songs for quickplay so that you can practice.

I need help! For some reason it did not unlock for me. I am really good at guitar so i five starred everything. I know i did because when you go to my goals I have unlocked the goal that says 5 star on every song in expert guitar. I have also played bass for the song that Does not have guitar and gold starred it. I went to recheck all the rock band 3 songs. and Each one has a Square Black X and 5 stars or gold stars next to it. :( may mines have been glitched!?!?!

@BigmanAriel - LOTS of people have been having problems with Imagine. Did you play it on Bass as the LAST SONG? If so, many people have had problems. I dont know what you can, other than check again to make sure it says "83/83" under "Epic Goals" under the "Band" tab in "My Goals"

One of the hardest songs to five-star for me was 'Jerry Was a Race Car Driver'. I'm play mostly drums and guitar/bass. Vocals are fortunately incredibly easy. Same goes for 'Caught in a Mosh'. 'Llama' took me three tries, becase I messed up in the end, but still quite easy

Thanks for the guide!

decent guide, but I feel like you left out some key pieces and it's riddled with condescension

@Alarthame - I didn't read it as condescension at all...just someone trying to help those who aren't as good at the game. I'm attempting this on guitar now, but it's still nice to have a backup plan if I absolutely cannot finish any of the songs highlighted here.

Just to make it clear, do you have to get all the 5* on the same instrument, or can you 5* some songs on Keyes and the rest on Guitar?

Remember for Vocals you can put it on Solo but still use 2 or 3 mics, if you have 2 or 3. If you have 2 or 3 decent singers your chance of 5*'ing any song are increased.

I was struggling with the bass run on 'Hey Man, Nice Shot'. Until I rubber-banded the green fret... And for those having trouble with 'The Beast and The Harlot', if you're singing the bloody thing don't give up. Took me three days and I finally nailed it singing 'ooh's and 'ah's in lower and higher voices until it decided to accept whichever octave I was in - and don't be afraid to pause the song four or five times to catch your breath. Helps to go into options and turn down everything that's not the vocal track too. I never want to hear that song again!

Can someone just put up a fucking vocal only track so that we don't have piss around with Rock Band's piss poor charting for guitars? Cheers..

Fuck, after playing a lot of these songs on bass it really shows how damn lazy harmonix are at charting songs.. SO many off time songs. Fuck beast and the harlot, I could probably do that on real guitar, it's the bass charts for the Phoenix song and Jane's addiction song that are hard. Purely because of shItty charting. We'll done harmonix, it's like you're TRYING TO secure that 2nd place behind guitar hero ahahahaha.

Rant over

Thank you for this information, I was really upset when I finally 5*d Caught in a Mosh on drums today and despite getting the "5* Rock Band 3" challenge complete, I didn't receive the achievement. For some reason, they decided only to not count my All Instruments Mode 5* of Llama only on the Hard challenge.

Also, I found Beast and the Harlot very easy on drums to 5* outside of the drum solo, so I just turned on no-fail.

As an addition. If you are struggling at some songs on guitar or drums. In my case it was I Got You (I Feel Good), I couldn't 5 Star it on drums, guitar or bass as funkbeats aren't my thing. I got 5 Stars on Vocals on my second try! So the point is, even if you think you aren't a good vocalist, TRY! Even if it is top-tier difficulty, TRY! If you can hold the pitch for a certain time, you can easily 5 Star Expert vocal songs in some tries. In the case of Beast and The Harlot, I 5 Starred it first try in vocal, like Llama. Vocals is NOT hard, and I am no singer at all! :-)

Also.. I'd suggest starting with all of these songs FIRST before anything else. If you 5 star 82 songs and get stuck on Llama, you just wasted a lot of effort.

Granted, you probably got yourself a ton of achievements along the way by doing those anyway... but still, just saying.

& I'll be doing Freebird on vox... if you know the song and can carry a tune, it's probably a lot easier that way because everyone knows it. Especially if you suffered though trying to beat Guitar Hero II back in the day and failed during the solo countless times; you've heard the vocals many many times. hehe.

Hell, I went through that on PS2 first, and then when I heard the 360 version had like 5 more songs, I got it for 360 just for those songs... Yep, I'm that obsessed with these games. :D

There is no kidding yourself, you will have to be good at the game. There is no trick and certain songs are going to give you a hard time, but with patience they can be beaten.
To keep track of what songs you have and haven't done you can check it through Career -> My Goals -> Rock Band -> Epic Rock Band 3 -> Rock Band Master.

There are certain things to note that will help you beat it:

- This must be done solo, or in a band offline. This means the you can get everyone to use Overdrive and ride on their glory, it also doesn't matter what difficulty everyone else is on, aslong as you are in expert.

- You can use any instrument. Be Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys or Singing whatever suits you. This means you can appeal to the easier instrument.

- If you unlock 'Guitar Immortal' which requires you to "Earn 5 Stars on any 50 Songs in Rock Band 3 {Disk Songs} on Medium Guitar (Or earn 3 stars on a higher difficulty)" You can use your Guitar controller to play Keys. This means some songs like Slipknot's 'Before I forget' which could be tricky on Guitar or Bass can be played on keys which doesn't even have a difficulty notch (The keys play like the Guitar and Bass requiring you strum but can still be much easier)

- You can gauge yourself against some of the harder songs, like Phish's 'Llama'. This will give you an idea of how hard this will be for you, obviously playing the same song again and again can mean you will learn it's riffs and tricky sections but if you fail easily you know it isn't for you...

- The difficulty of some songs seems strange, some songs will give themselves a 2 tier difficulty on guitar and feel like a demon rating, so don't let this discourage you. In this case try another instrument. Certain songs such as Steve Miller Bands 'Fly Like an Eagle' rates itself with no difficulty on Guitar but can be very tricky even to an experienced player. Then other songs such as Ozzy Ozbourne's 'Crazy Train' Which gives itself a demon difficulty on Bass feels like a 2 tier at best.

- No Fail Mode will not harm this, while it may sound stupid to suggest if you can't pass a song the reason I do is that some people have trouble with just a certain part of the song which with this can be bypassed.

- Find a good friend. A really good trick you can use is get a friend to help you play drums. Assign yourself or your friend to focusing on the pads and give then the foot pedal. Many of the diffucult drum songs are only tricky due to the ammount of co-ordination required and this will bypass it. The only reason I say get a good friend is some songs will need playing several times and the last thing you want is to get frustrated at each other.

- If your playing vocals or anything but mainly vocals you can pause at any time and use the 3 second run in back to where you were to adjust your pitch and take a breath then jump back into it.
In a new title update as of February 1st 2011 the scoring is disabled if this is continuously done. To fix this go to your settings and clear the cache of your Xbox and then play offline without the update

As an added bonus this is stackable on the other Goals of this kind so while playing for this you will also unlock:

Rock Band 3Rock Band LegendThe Rock Band Legend achievement in Rock Band 3 worth 99 points5 Star every song in Rock Band 3 on Hard.

Rock Band 3Rock Band MasterThe Rock Band Master achievement in Rock Band 3 worth 44 points5 Star on Medium (or 3 Star on a higher difficulty) any 50 Rock Band 3 songs.

Best of luck

Repetition really helps. Llama was the ONLY song I couldn't 5* on an expert sightread (I swear I was 200 points short) so I played the keys chart on the guitar, worked great.

Then I DID get the 5* on guitar. Irony?

The game, in comparasion to say... 5*ing everything in ANY of the Guitar Heroes, is really, REALLY easy.

It can be a real help on songs like that where it is only certain sections the stop you, not the whole song

It means more you need a personal performance of 5*'s vs a band score... Offline a full band score of 5*'s even if you get 3*'s personally will count.

"This means the you can get everyone to use Overdrive and ride on their glory, it also doesn't matter what difficulty everyone else is on, aslong as you are in expert." Sadly, I discovered today that isn't the case. Had my girlfriend on my account singing the last song I need (Beast and the Harlot) on Expert while I supported her from her XBL account with guitar on Hard. We got 5* as a band and she got 5 individually, but the achievement for Hard unlocked while Expert didn't. So, it looks like it does take into consideration your bandmate's skill selection now. Boo.

It was so helpful to see that you could turn on no-fail. Antibodies guitar chart didn't agree with me, so I played it on bass and failed with 5 stars at the ending. Popped on no fail, and checked it off my list.

I don't think you have to do this in solo or offline band as you stated. I have King George listed 5* on expert guitar, but not on the expert master list (band 4*), I also have hey man nice shot listed on rock band expert master but not on guitar 5* (band 5* guitar 4*). They were played in an online band with my friend, there are several other songs like this on my lists

Just throwing this out there...
You CAN play the Keys with your guitar controller (you just don't unlock Keyboard challenges/achievements). This is significant because the song Llama by Phish is devil-tiered on every instrument (including keys), but MUCH, MUCH easier on keys than guitar/bass.
I almost had 5 stars my first play through, got it easily on the second playthrough.
Just note that you play the notes just like it's guitar, strum unless a solo part. Good luck guys.

You CAN get 5 stars with band mates offline. I did this on multiple songs with my wife and checked them off my list individually. It ONLY counts if you get 5 or more stars as a BAND. Individual score or stars do not matter when in a band for credit. I went through over 10 songs and 5 or gold starred as an INDIVIDUAL, but not a band and they didnt count. Repeated songs individually with a band mate, got 5 stars as a BAND and they counted. This was local so as far as online I have no clue if you can.

When playing with a band one of the biggest things to remember to get 5 or gold stars is to hit all the star power phases you can and then activate at the sametime with a max multiplier. Missing star power will kill your stars.

Basically in my opinion its much easier to do this individually than in a band do to the extra strategy involved with band mates. Although to get 5 or gold stars its pretty critical that you dont miss any star power phases and activate with a max multiplier even as an individual no matter what instrument you are using to maximize your potential.

There are 83 songs on Rock Band 3. You can use the No Fail modifier on the hardest songs, then you can save your Overdrive for sections where you can keep a good streak instead of using it to pass difficult sections.

If you're playing solo, you can get 5-stars on any song and it will count. If you're playing in a Band, only your Band stars count for the trophy, so make sure you get 5 star for the band (doesn't matter how much stars each individual player gets). Don't forget that every Band member must be on Expert too.

You can follow your progress by going to:

Career -> My Goals -> Rock Band -> Epic Rock Band 3 -> Rock Band Master

0
0

This will not be obtainable by everyone. You will need to get 5 stars on all 83 on disc songs on Expert difficulty to unlock this. If you can play well on every instrument this will be far easier. For example, Rainbow in the Dark is fairly challenging on Guitar but simple on keyboard. Antibodies is very difficult on Guitar and Bass but not too bad on Vocals. Good luck if you are trying to do this with only one instrument - it will take a lot of skill. You can check which songs you have left by going to the Career Goals section under Rock Band > Epic Rock Band 3 > Rock Band 3 Expert Master. If you are close on a song, you can turn on No Fail to try and get a more effective overdrive path.

You need to score 5 stars in all songs on the expert, there are like 83 songs, and also, if I’m not mistaken, you don’t have to do it all on one instrument, you can play half the songs on the guitar and half on the drums, the main thing is that there are 5 stars everywhere expert.
