To get gold on a disc you need to complete 3 of the 6 events on the disc so for this achievement you will need to gold all 10 discs. The discs have a total of 41 songs and 19 challenges so you will need to complete a mixture of these although it is just possible to finish songs and no challenges. It needs to be done for both the Guitar and Drum careers.
There is no difficulty requirement for this achievement.
So, if you find that you are struggling to do it on your preferred difficulty then just drop down a difficulty and you will not be penalised for this.

can you drop difficulty mid album?

Yes, you can change the difficulty mid-album. Apologies for the delay in responding to this. You have probably figured that out already.
