How to unlock the I Know Bass Techniques achievement in Rocksmith 2014 Edition - Definitive Guide
After playing most songs on emulated bass, the only technique you'll be missing slap and pop. For this you will need a real bass. With the Bass path selected, go to lessons, then select the practice track for Slap and Pop.
*EDIT: According to Last Leg 23, this can now be unlocked with emulated bass

I just got this cheevo last night and I did the entire thing on emulated bass. It popped during Red Hot Chili Peppers' Higher Ground (I bought the RS1 import).
Since I was hunting for the 214 mission (and now 500), I have been always going for the Play X New Songs missions and I always sort by Mastery so that I started a 0% song each time, but I am not sure how many songs it took me to get this cheevo. I do remember one song that *I think* had a slap/pop but I cannot remember, but I will edit this comment if I think of it. I have only played a couple Drop D songs but everything else to this point (for bass at least) has been Standard Tuning, so I hope that helps!

I played every song (breaking up the monotony) and still hadn't unlocked this. I as well had the RS1 imports and I still had to go back to the tutorials as i did in RS1. So if someone can confirm this I'll add it to the solution.

This cannot be done on EMULATED BASS, but it can still be done with a regular guitar. I got this today and I don't even own a bass guitar.
In the tuner, you need to switch to bass guitar (not emulated). Now just tune the four strings way down low.... you should be able to fool Rocksmith into thinking you have a real bass guitar. This might be a little tricky, because tuning strings that are so loose is so innacurate. But I did it in like a couple of minutes.
Now just do those techniques you might not have hit while playing on emulated.
Go to lessons, pick one that you need and only play through the practice track. Don't quit in the middle of the track, the game needs to save your progress. (At least that's what I think. My achievement popped upon completing -and saving progress- on a bends lesson. I had done bends before but quit out just after a few successful ones.)
I hope this has helped you get another 1000/1000 completion!
Cheers.

I already got the cheevo your way but it may be possible to get the cheevo just using emulated bass, I think the problem is actually finding a song that has the "Slap and Bop" technique.
I found that "Bring me to life" by Evanescence has this technique but it would need someone else to confirm this song would count.
