How to unlock the Blowhole Surfers achievement in Rocksmith 2014 - Definitive Guide
See the quote under Who Needs a Dog? for additional information.
This is a silly, pointless game that doesn't teach you anything or practice your skill at all. The game is simple i.e the louder you play, the higher the whale will blow you upwards. Aim for the coins and collecting all coins in a chain will give you bonus points and a point-combo that will increase for every consecutive full chain you can collect. By missing a single coin of a chain, your combo will reset.
You shouldn't attempt this until you have a "mission-combo" of x6. Personally, I think I needed x7 or x8 as I couldn’t really get the hang of it. Playing guitar or bass doesn't matter at all in this game as you don’t play on individual strings. To control the height of the character as good as possible, I played palm mutes on the A-string. Mute more for lower sound, mute less for louder. A method that might make it easier for you is using the voulme knob on your guitar. Set the flick on your guitar to either treble or rhythm and use the volume knob for the same as your guitar is set to. Simply use the voulme knob to adjust the height of your character. Turn up volume to go higher, turn it down to go lower. Thanks to Metdevil for this trick. There are tons of different ways to do this, you just have to find the one you think is easier.
One thing to keep in mind that you can use to your advantage is that if you die while on a combo, you will keep the combo onto you next run as long as you didn't start on a new chain before you died. If you get a high combo early in the game and you see an easy way to kill yourself without starting on a new chain, commit suicide and you will get a huge boost in the beginning of your next run. By doing this you technically can get the trophy within 10 seconds of starting a run, but killing yourself isn't as easy as it might sound.
- This mini-game is complete g. It doesn't teach anything, but does nothing but torment the player.
- Start completing challenges to level up as early as possible.
- Play for long sessions (at least 30 minutes) to get used to it and understand how to play.
- Hold on and don't break the combo. I know that this is absolutely impossible.
- Upgrade to x10. Don't take the trophy early, you might go crazy.
- Understand how the fountain rises and falls, you don’t need to hit a lot, sometimes one hit is enough for the whole row.
- The last banana in a row is the most valuable, so you need to collect the WHOLE row at once to get a lot of points.
- Strike the muted string to raise the fountain a little at a time.
- Practice patience.
