How to unlock the Art + Functionality achievement in Rocksmith - Definitive Guide
Every gig that you complete you unlock a new guitar. There are 48 Guitars.
The total amount of guitars and what you have unlocked can be seen from the amp menu, then scroll over to guitars. To make gigs easier you can customize them to songs you are good at and make them 4 songs which is the minimum, This will take awhile but stay at it and the achievement will be yours :)
That means you must play 48 x 4 songs for a grand total of 192 Songs played in gigs.
I'd also like to add that you must be there to play and do well on the songs that are in the setlist. I received rank 11 with 12 more guitars left to unlock so I tried playing part of setlists or not playing at all and it will not work to unlock guitars. Guess you gotta sit down and play them all the long way.

For those who get bored easily, like I am doing, of playing the same songs over and over again. Go to the event manager and change the songs to arrangements which you haven't tried. I found that most of the time spent was trying to get a song over a certain score (say 90,000). This should due to the arrangements being low scores lower the expectations for an encore and (hopefully depending on the song you get) give you one of the mastered songs for an encore making it easy for a double encore and another guitar hopefully.

Quick question. If you play the same 4 songs that you are good at, wouldn't they eventually become master songs, thus making the game harder? I am not experienced with a real guitar, and I struggle alone to get Go with the flow to a master level. Not sure if there is any videos on youtube of all the songs at maxed chart level. I will need to sync those up to the game for me to play. I will never be able to play any of these songs by memory.

another thing to remember, to look at the minimum song requirement. my last 12 guitars i needed to unlock, each gig had a minimum of 2 songs so i played song 2 by blur and thats only 4 minutes then i just let the encore play out so i didnt get another encore. and that net me a guitar each time. i dont know when it changes to a 2 song minimum. but i noticed when i needed 10-12 guitars left.
You need to play a total of 48 gigs to get this.
The shortest way is as follows: Play only as many songs as needed and only choose songs that you have a highscore of at least 100,000 BUT which you haven't mastered yet. So there has to be a part in the song which isn't fully leveled. This way you won't have to rehearse the songs first! You just play the two or three songs in the gig and don't bother about the encore. This way you just need around 10-15min each gig. Was going nuts over those 90,000 points until i found out.

There are 48 guitars you can unlock in this game. The only way to unlock a guitar is by finishing an event. You can view how many guitars you have unlocked by scrolling over Guitar Select from the amp mode. The quickest way to complete an event is to customize it to the fewest amount of songs, typically four, and select songs and arrangements you already qualify for.
You get a guitar for each event you complete. There are 48 guitars. Play 48 events to get this achievement.
