How to unlock the Bass Head achievement in Rocksmith - Definitive Guide

If you have the purchased the "Tone Designer Time Saver Pack" DLC, you should win this after finishing the first event on (emulated or real) bass if you get a double encore. If you don't get a double encore, you may have to start a new game (on another storage device) and try again.

Without the pack you'll have to get 70k with on-disc songs during events to collect a piece of gear per song. The fastest way to 70k is to choose riff repeater --> leveler and setting mastery to the highest level you can perform. (Press start after tuning to set the level.)

There are 15 pieces of bass gear (with blue backgrounds). The three new pedals are the "Bass Fuzz" distortion pedal, the "MBComp" dynamics pedal, and the "Bass Wah" filter pedal. The six new amps are "Boutique 500", "Boutique 800", "NPN500", "Pre-Stortion", "TB300", and "TB66". The six new cabinets are "1x15 Modern", "1x15 Vintage", "2x10 HF", "4x10 HF", "8x10 Vintage", and "Hi-Fi DI".

NPN500 and 2x10HF amps -> Higher Ground by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Boys Don't Cry by The Cure
8x10 Vintage cabinet, Bass Wah pedal, and Bass Fuzz pedal -> Plug in Baby by Muse
TB300 amp -> Mean Bitch by Taddy Porter
Boutique 500 amp and Hi-Fi Dl cabinet -> Run Back to Your Side by Eric Clapton
TB300 amp and 8x10 Vintage cabinet -> Panic Switch by Silversun Pickups, Slither by Velvet Revolver, Number Thirteen by Red Fang
MBComp Pedal, TB300 Amp, and 8x10 Vintage -> We Share The Same Skies by The Cribs
TB66 amp and 1X15 Vintage cabinet -> Burnished by White Denim, Well OK Honey by Jenny O
1x15 Modern cabinet -> Me and the Bean by Spoon
MBComp Pedal, Pre-Stortion amp, HiFi DI cabinet -> Step Out of the Car by The Boxer Rebellion

Did you purchase the previous DLC that unlocks all effects and gear? Otherwise, I think you have to reach 70k for all the on disc songs to unlock everything. It hasn't unlocked for me yet.

Ah, so that's why this was so easy. I had bought the "Tone Designer Time Saver Pack" before. Are all new gear locked at first?

That's my understanding. Thanks for updating the solution. You may want to add that you have to reach 70k only for on disc songs, not DLC. I will voted for your solution :)

It popped for me with about 2 or 3 on disc songs not yet at 70k. It may count DLC unlocks towards some fixed total although it seems like I 70k'd about 6 or 7 of those prior to unlocking it.

i downloaded the "tone designer..." dlc and went through my first event but no achievement unlocked, and i got over 70k with all songs (including encore & double encore). what am i doing wrong?

Huh. That's what I did and got it. My only guess would be you are using an emulated bass and this achievement (and only this achievement) needs a real bass, but that seems unlikely.

yes, i am using emulated bass, but that would be really unfair...

I just got it on my first event using a emulated bass so that's not the problem for pedgz

Heads up for those who won't buy the Time Saver DLC... NPN500 and 2x10HF are only on Higher Ground from Chilly Willy (red hot chilly pepper)... the hardest bass song on disc to 70k (it was my last song on disc to 70k)... still got cramps in my left hand.

^ that's exactly the reason i was forced to get the time saver dlc. i tried that song out 6 times, didn't even get past 50k...

btw, Narkaotik, thanks for letting us know that the chili peppers song is one of those required to unlock a piece of bass gear. i hope other would help listing the songs needed to unlock the other pieces of bass gear (since i'm pretty sure i'll be doing this the hard way of playing the songs' bass arrangements eventually)...

You're welcome, I'd list the other, but a lot of songs got them, except the Bass Wah pedal, but I honnestly don't know wich one gave it to me as it was unlocked at the end of a 8 songs event =(

Oh and Chiokjarse, The reason gear arent always visible is: the amp and cabinet you are currently using arent listed.

I'd like to mention you get no new tones with DLC songs only on disc songs minus Carol of the Bells. You can check this before selecting the bass arraignment. as long as there is a pedal at the 70k mark you can unlock one. I kept wondering why tones weren't unlocking but all I had been playing were DLC songs ]:

I just got it using a emulated bass and without "Tone Designer Time Saver Pack" DLC, so can confirm using a real Bass is not a requirement!

I have the Time Saver Pack. I switched up the songs in the first event, practiced them, played through the set. Didn't get 70k in the 2nd song, did get double encore, but no achievement. Started a new save, did the exact same thing, but with the default songs. Scores were almost identical (still didn't get 70k in the 2nd song), double encore, achievement popped. Only thing I can think of is that one of the default songs gives you a piece of gear, triggering the achievement, and that the ones I chose the first time didn't...

Just so you are all clear on this, you do not need the full time save pack to hack this one; just the tone designer(400msp.) If you want the guitar/bass one too that is only 240, so you can save a little change rather than spending on something you will unlock anyway.

To confirm what Buck said so long ago. Get a double encore with the original songs worked for me on a new save, many years later with the Tone Designer Time Saver Pack.

finally! ok, i managed to unlock it. here's how i did it: new game save (you have to go through all the necessary setup on the guitar end before switching to bass), tone saver dlc should be downloaded. rehearse first 2 bass arrangement songs, earn a qualifying score, perform. play well enough to get at least 70k and prompt a double encore. the double encore is crucial because i realized my previous 2 attempts didn't actually prompt a double encore (my bad on an earlier post). after that, achievement popped. the four songs are easy to score between 90-100k, so try to play them the best you can.

Also, Plug in Baby (not a muse fan) unlocks 8x10 vintage and bass wah and bass fuzz. I nearly played all on disc songs until I finally came across this one.I also believe Boys Don't Cry by The Cure unlocks the same gear as Higher Ground. Need someone else to verify!!! If the solution was adjusted to reflect what songs unlock what that would be beneficial.

TIP: For those who don't want to spend M$P. Fastest way to 70k is to choose riff repeater --> leveler. After tuning press start and set mastery to highest you can perform.

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch (tough imo) unlocks tb300 and 8x10 Vintage

White Denim - Burnished (doable) unlocks TB66 and 1X15 Vintage

I REFUSE to play Rapscaillions....although it's got nice bass lines..

also it's Taddy Porter - Mean Bitch.....
sorry for any confusion...

Scoring 70,000 on an arrangement will give you the gear used in that song. This is the only way to unlock bass gear. To be able to score 70,000 on a song you will most likely have to level the song up. The fastest way to level up a song is to go from the main menu: Songs > Your song > Riff repeater > Leveler and master the sections as good as you can. To be able to score 70,000 you will need to master about 70-80% of the song, you won't need to fully master every section.

There are 15 pieces of bass gear, no guitar gear is required. If you press in-game from the journey screen, you will open the amp, from here you can see what you are missing, open a tone slot and browse through every gear in the game. All bass gear has blue background.

Pedals: (3)

Bass Fuzz (Distortion pedal)
MBComp (Dynamics pedal)
Bass Wah (Filter pedal)

Amps: (6)

Boutique 500
Boutique 800
NPN500
Pre-Stortion
TB300
TB66

Cabinets: (6)

1x15 Modern
1x15 Vintage
2x10 HF
4x10 HF
8x10 Vintage
Hi-Fi Dl

Here is a list of some songs and what gear they unlock. This list is not complete, so there are other songs you can play to unlock the same gear. Some of the gear is more rare, and I only found them in one or two songs:

Higher Ground/Boys Don't Cry - NPN500 (amp), 2x10HF (cabinet)
Plug in Baby - 8x10 Vintage (cabinet), Bass Wah (pedal), Bass Fuzz (pedal)
Mean Bitch - TB300 (amp)
Chimney - Boutique 500 (amp), 4x10 HF (cabinet)
Angela - Bass Fuzz (pedal), Bontique 500 (amp), 8x10 Vintage (cabinet)
Run Back to Your Side - Boutique 500 (amp), Hi-Fi Dl (cabinet)
Panic Switch/Slither/Number Thirteen/Do you remember/In Bloom/Use Somebody/Unnatural Selection/Between the lines - TB300 (amp), 8x10 Vintage (cabinet)
Are You Gonna Go My Way/We Share The Same Skies - MBComp (pedal), TB300 (amp), 8x10 Vintage (cabinet)
Burnished/Well OK Honey/The Spider and the Fly - TB66 (amp), 1x15 Vintage (cabinet)
Me and the Bean - 1x15 Modern (cabinet)
I Miss you - Boutique 800 (amp), 4x10 HF (cabinet)
I Can't Hear You/I Can't get no Satisfaction/Gobbledigook- MBComp (pedal), TB66 (amp), 1x15 Vintage (cabinet)
Step Out of the Car/Six AM Salvation/High and Dry - MBComp (pedal), Pre-Stortion (amp), Hi-Fi Dl (cabinet)
Vasoline – TB300 (amp), 4x10 HF (cabinet)
Where is my mind? - Pre-Stortion (amp), Hi-Fi Dl (cabinet)
Song 2/Breed – Bass fuzz (pedal), TB300 (amp), 8x10 Vintage (cabinet)

A number of the gear pieces can be unlocked via multiple songs. For example, if you can finish all of the songs below with 70,000 points or more, the trophy will be yours upon completion of the 8th song.

Boys Don't Cry
Plug in Baby
High and Dry
Chimney
The Spider and the Fly
Me and the Bean
I Miss you
