How to unlock the Beneficial Friends achievement in Rocksmith - Definitive Guide

I can confirm that you need two Realtone cables, 2 controllers, and 1 guitar.

All you need to do is plug in both cables, tune your guitar for both players by switching cables. As soon as you pick a song it unlocks, you do not even need to play the song.

I just tried a cable I had that was also a USB guitar cable and it didn't work. I believe the cable has to be the original ubisoft cable.

Gamestop does not carry this game used, because they don't want to deal with the cables, just like they stopped carrying used GH/RB guitars.

Also, I can confirm this does work using two basses.

[US] Best Buy has Rocksmith Guitar & Bass (the version with the 2400 MSP Bass DLC) on sale for $30. I'm going to pick it up since I own the original version and picking this up will net me the Bass DLC for the normal price PLUS the additional real tone cable I need for the Beneficial Friends multiplayer achievement.

The hardest part was finding Multiplayer.

This is a very easy trophy, however, this will require a second cable. You can earn this with just one guitar. The Xbox and PS3 USB Tone Cable are identical so if you have a cross platform buddy, invite him/her over. This can be done solo.

You don't have to play a song. If you only have one guitar, plug in two Tone Cables into your PS3 and plug one of them into your guitar. Now, just start a multiplayer game, select a song and finish the sound check with your guitar and then unplug the one cable from your guitar and plug the second cable into the same guitar and finish the sound check . The trophy will pop when the game checks your tuning.

Go to the Multiplayer, play with a song with someone, and it’ll unlock.Unfortunately there is no online multiplayer, so this must be done locally.

The trophy is taken locally. To get it you need to have two cables from the game, a controller and one guitar. We go into multiplayer mode, connect both cables to the console, start a song for two (either with two joysticks, or by switching the joystick number with the home button). We connect the guitar to both cables one by one and go through tuning the guitar and get the trophy. You don't need to play the song itself.

A small addition - there is no need to go through guitar tuning. In the multiplayer menu, the game will offer “make some noise” and “mute” with both guitars, after which you can start any song and the trophy will be given even before the guitar settings screen appears.

You don't even need to unpack the second cable.
We connect it to the console and click the tip with our finger.
