How to unlock the Tutorials My Axe achievement in Rocksmith - Definitive Guide
It may be the game's fault, or my guitar or whatever, but here are a few tips on how to overcome some of these flaws.
For Palm Mutes and Harmonics, sometimes, even though you hit the not correctly and hear that you have done so, it won't register.
A great workaround is that you can activate custom tones in challenge mode!
To do so, go into amp mode and configure a tone. Just create a tone with the first distortion pedal, I didn't try the other ones, but found that this one worked really good. I also put all of the pedal's values (distortion and tone) to 100. When you save you'll see it is assigned to a button, mine was X.
Now go back into the challenge, and when it starts, press the X button (or whatever button you have that tone mapped to) and it will change the challenge's tone for your custom tone.
The rest is up to you and practice, but for palm mutes and harmonics, I tried upwards of 10 times to no avail before trying this. Once I loaded the custom distortion tone, it took me 2 tries each.
The other challenge you will likely have trouble with is the Bends one. As much as I bend a note, it rarely registers when you have to go up or down a full step, even though I can see I bended the string enough or even more than enough.
The trick here is to do an hammer-on 1 or 2 frets higher. 1 for half step, 2 for full step. If you don't know whether it'll be a half or full, hammer-on one fret, then the second one if needed.
Since the game only analyses the sound you produce, it doesn't notice you didn't actually bend.
I didn't have any trouble with the other challenges, but if they have proven to be tricky for some of you, do tell what your tricks were so others can know about it too!
A trick a friend and I discovered is volume. Don't have the volume control on the guitar maxed out. For some odd reason the game detects notes better if the guitar is not turned all the way up. I keep the volume about 3/4 turned up. I found this especially helpful on the double stops and palm mutes.
First, I used Dr Worm Buffet's suggestion about using a distortion pedal. It seemed to help.
Next, I just hit the note normally, and let it ring for about a half a second, then muted the string with my pick hand.
I had to play around with the timing a little bit, but doing it this way doubled my score.
no need for custom tones, just make sure you play the harmonic exactly over the fret bar.Once i sussed this out cracked it in no time.
From the main menu, select Techniques. There are 12 different techniques that are nothing more than tutorials that teach you how to perform the techniques. Each one has a bronze, silver and gold point level. You will start each one with the fewest notes possible so you may have to play each one a few times before you have enough notes that allow you to reach the required point total for gold.
The two most troubling ones are Harmonics and Palm Mutes. Not because of the difficulty in the technique, but rather, the inability of the game to correctly register the note when played properly. For the Palm Mutes, I found that quickly raising my right hand off the strings to let it ring slightly and muting quickly again will register the note.
The points needed for gold are
- Sustain - 78,000
- Shifting - 61,000
- Hammer-Ons & Pull-offs - 66,000
- Slides - 74,000
- Bends - 95,000
- Harmonics - 65,000
- Palm Mute - 80,000
- Tremolo - 33,000
- Chord - 32,000
- Double Stop - 34,000
- Power Chord - 39,000
- Barre Chord - 56,000
Go to the Main Menu and scroll to “Techniques.” There are 12 techniques that you must receive a gold on. Some techniques are easy (such as the sustains challenge) and some techniques might be a challenge (like the barre chords challenge).
It's very unlikely you'll get gold on the first try because you have to level up each phrase, so play through the entire technique four times and all the phrases should be at a high enough level to hit the high score. Just practice and practice. You’ll unlock this eventually.
Again, if some techniques are too hard, try the pause method mentioned in the roadmap. Also, save yourself some time, look at the list below.
Points needed for Gold.
- Sustain: 78,000
- Shifting: 61,000
- Hammer-Ons & Pull-offs: 66,000
- Slides: 74,000

- Tremolo: 33,000
- Chord: 32,000
- Double Stop: 34,000
- Power Chord: 39,000

If you didn't reach that score, press and Restart. You'll avoid having to tune the guitar again and avoid the loading screen.
Some tests are easy, while others can be challenging. Moreover, first of all, related to the features of your particular guitar, i.e. The game will not always correctly register what you are playing. Some tips for passing:
- The main problems are with Palm Mutes and Harmonics. To pass the tests, you can use the trick of activating your own custom tones. Those. in the menu in amp mode we make a tone with the first distortion pedal (distortion and tone parameters are 100 each), save it to the button. Next, after the start of the test, click on this button and turn on this lotion. It will become much easier to play.
- That concerns suspenders (bends). The game will not always correctly register your brace, so you can use the hint for the Giant trophy! Namely, use hammer-on on higher frets (1 or 2 frets higher, 1 for half step, 2 for full step). If it’s not clear what it will be, you can first make it hammer on the 1st fret, then on the second, if necessary.
- If there are errors in the game's detection of the notes you play, check the guitar's volume level. Sometimes lowering the volume to 3/4 of maximum can significantly improve the situation.

The higher the fret, the louder the harmonic will be. Accordingly, of the standard ones, it is easiest to play it on the 12th fret and most difficult on the fifth.
Fuglets are also easy to play on the 5th fret, you just need to know how . This video explains perfectly why you can't play them on the 5th fret.
