How to unlock the Bounty Hunter achievement in Rogue Galaxy - Definitive Guide

Your first quarry is the very first boss in the game. After that, you'll need to purchase Quarry assignments at the Galaxy Corp. in Zerard. Look for the shop at the desk on the opposite side behind Mio. Some of these quarries aren't available for purchase until quite late in the game. Once you've bought a mission, you can check it in the battle log. Choosing a quarry in the menu will tell you where to go to find it. Once there, look for a question mark. Stand on it and click X, and you will receive a clue as to what object you need to call the monster.

The earliest chapter you can obtain this trophy: Chapter Twelve

Quarries are special bounties that you can seek and destroy for a large amount of Hunter Points, experience points, Zehn, and other unique spoils. The large amount of Hunter Points you receive for defeating a quarry will help you reach the top Hunter’s Rank quickly, enabling you to unlock Best in the Galaxy easily. There are a total of 22 quarries, and the first quarry that you will battle and defeat is the Salamander in Chapter One. The rest of the quarries, however, are independent of the story and you must locate them on your own. Quarries are mini-bosses, and as such, are stronger than normal enemies, but the rewards you receive for defeating them are well worth the effort. In order to face a quarry, there are two conditions you must first fulfill:

  • You must first purchase the quarry information from Faye in the Galaxy Corporation. You can only begin purchasing quarry information after the mainframe is back up and running after the events of Chapter Five.
  • You must find the quarry’s location and use a specific item at the Thinking Circle.

You must seek out and defeat all 22 quarries in order to unlock this trophy. After you’ve defeated them all return back to the Galaxy Corporation and talk to MIO, and she’ll give you the Sun’s Beloved Wear, an outfit for Lilika. The following is a list of all quarries, as well as their locations, the item needed to summon them, and the strategy to defeat them.

The Scorching Alchemist

Name: Salamander
Hunter Points: 20,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: N/A
Location: Rosa: Salgin - Residential Area
Required Item: None
Strategy: This is the boss you fought at the end of Chapter One. See The Departure for a strategy.

The Tomb Guardian

Name: Flabbergazer
Hunter Points: 8,500 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Six
Location: Vedan: Myna - North Observation Deck, the Thinking Circle is in front of a tombstone monument.
Required Item: Mirror Unit
Strategy:

This quarry is similar to the Giants you fought in Chapter One. It requires you to jump and attack its eyeball for you to damage it. It is also weak to lightning, so using Jaster’s Flash Sword or Steve’s Electro Punch abilities will increase the damage you cause to it.

The Cave Bandit

Name: Paul the Ripper
Hunter Points: 18,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Six
Location: Vedan: Rockbelter Mine - Great Tablet Hall, in the large open space past the are where you faced Gale.
Required Item: Stella Crystal
Strategy:

This quarry is similar to the Baphu enemy you fought in Chapter One. Its attacks hit hard, so ensure you have many Heal Potions and other healing items in case your characters get caught in its cross-fire. It also has high defense, so using Lilika’s Warrior God’s Cry, Zegram’s Drunken Burst or Jupis’ Aromatic Boost will boost your attack power. Use Jaster’s Illusion Sword to dish out some extra damage with Jaster’s physical attacks, and try to jump and target its head. Its attacks are predictable and easy to dodge, but in case you get hit, be sure to heal immediately.

The Steel Shipwright

Name: Strike Ogre
Hunter Points: 14,500 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Seven
Location: Zerard: Starship Factory - In Assembly Line 3A, take the elevator to the top. The Thinking Circle is located on the ship.
Required Item: Cyclone Pump
Strategy:

The Strike Ogre hits hard, but is very slow and predictable. Use Jaster’s Illusion Sword ability and any other buffs you want to apply, and jump and attack to damage the quarry. If you are hit, make sure to heal right away, but its attacks are easy to predict. Try to get behind it to attack, and you will have time to move away if it turns around to attack you.

The Wayward Phantasm

Name: Dark Messiah
Hunter Points: 12,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Seven
Location: Rosa: Sylvazard Desert - Near the entrance to the ruins, in an area past the shopkeeper. The Thinking Circle is located in a hole.
Required Item: Crystal Staff
Strategy:

By the time you receive a Crystal Staff in Chapter Eleven or Twelve, you will already be overpowered enough to mow him down. Use any buffs you want and unload on it until you defeat it.

The Voracious Wanderer

Name: Hammerhead
Huner Points: 10,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Seven
Location: Rose Nebula: Ship Deck - The Thinking Circle is located in the bow of the ship.
Required Item: Primeval Beef
Strategy:

This quarry is similar to the Deviliers you fought in Chapter Two, although it is slower, but does pack more of a punch. Use a similar strategy than when you fought the Devilers, and use your long range weapon when it gets out of range, and be sure to block before it rams into you.

The Jungle Master

Name: Beast Leone
Hunter Points: 45,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eight
Location: Juraika: Path to the Ruins - Teleport to the Endpoint of the Path to the Ruins and the Thinking Circle will be located in the large plaza.
Required Item: Cursed Mask
Strategy:

Beast Leone will begin the battle invulnerable to damage. You must jump and attack the jewel on its head and destroy it before you can damage it. Once you destroy the jewel, the beast can be damaged anywhere, so feel free to get behind it to damage it so you are not in its line of fire. If it ever jumps, block before it lands to reduce the damage taken. If it jumps far away, get out of its way because it will execute a powerful charge attack. Use your best buffs and heal when necessary and you will defeat this quarry.

The Shapeless Assassin

Name: Megalomantis
Hunter Points: 13,500 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eight
Location: Vedan: Cancer King’s Ruins - In the area after where Harry builds a bridge, the Thinking Circle is located in a water tunnel.
Required Item: Smoked Rainbow Newt
Strategy:

The Megalomantis is a very simple quarry. Because you face the quarry in a small tunnel, the only danger is the beast trapping you in a corner and thus being vulnerable to attack, so make sure not to get cornered.

The Sin-Steeped Drifter

Name: Tengulsam
Hunter Points: 17,500 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eight
Location: Juraika: Path to Burkaqua - Teleport to the Creekside transporter, walk all the way to the east, and circle up around across the bridge made out of a tree branch.
Required Item: Myriad Branch
Strategy:

Tengulsam is similar to the Dark Gigant enemies from the Leo King’s Castle and requires you to jump and attack in order for you to damage it. Use Jaster’s Illusion Sword and any other buffs you like in order to take it down and heal when necessary.

The Rumored Ladyhunter

Name: Garuski
Hunter Points: 16,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eight
Location: Vedan: Myna - Teleport to the South Myna Station. The Thinking Circle is in the tunnel to the southwest.
Required Item: Magic Lipstick, and Kisala and Lilika in the party.
Strategy:

Garuski is similar to the Dark Kong enemies. You must have Kisala and Lilika in this battle, so use Lilika’s Warrior God’s Cry to buff your party’s attack, as well as Jaster’s Illusion Sword to increase your damage output. Keep your party healed and you will defeat Garuski quickly with the buffs applied.

The Tower Predator

Name: Lepognon Mammoth
Hunter Points: 13,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eight
Location: Zerard: Gladius Towers - The Thinking Circle is on the bridge connecting Gladius Tower 1 to Gladius Tower 2.
Required Item: Perfect Elixir
Strategy:

The Lepognon Mammoth can only attack directly in front of it, but can be attacked from any direction. Apply the usual buffs and Jaster’s Illusion Sword, and attack it from behind so that it cannot harm you. Be sure to keep your party healed up and you will emerge victorious quickly enough.

The Tower Matador

Name: King Raiden
Hunter Points: 9,800 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eight
Location: Zerard: Gladius Towers - The Thinking Circle is on the bridge connecting Gladius Tower 2 to Gladius Tower 1.
Required Item: Perfect Reviver
Strategy:

King Raiden is much more difficult than the previous few quarries. You must jump and attack its head to damage it. Its attacks hit hard, but it can only attack directly in front of it, so try attacking from behind. It will eventually begin to move around the bridge, forcing you to chase after it, and potentially exposing yourself to its attacks. Apply your usual buffs and heal when necessary, and you will eventually defeat the quarry.

The Desert Idol

Name: Demonlord Ronfaoh
Hunter Points: 13,500 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Ten
Location: Rosa: Kuje Desert - In the middle of the four-way intersection.
Required Item: Alluring Lamp
Strategy:

Demonlord Ronfaoh is a heavy hitter, and with his blade hands, he can slash and perform wide swipes that can damage your whole party if they are close enough to each other. Apply your usual buffs and try to stay behind it while attacking so you do not get caught in its line of attack. There is nothing special about this quarry, however, so you should be able to win granted you stay healed up and keep your buffs active.

The Winged Traveler

Name: Brutish Hawk
Hunter Points: 15,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Ten
Location: Rosa: Johannasburg - Beside the fountain plaza
Required Item: Hoho Bird Feather, and Jupis must be the active character.
Strategy:

The Brutish Hawk can be a very frustrating enemy if you let it. It has a dive attack that can damage your party, as well as a wind attack that damages your whole party if they are caught in the crossfire. The Brutish Hawk does these attacks in quick succession, so if you get caught, you might not be able to get out until your character is knocked unconscious and you resurrect them. The Brutish Hawk, however, is easy to cheese. Apply attack-boosting buffs (such as Jupis’ Aromatic Boost) and Jaster’s Illusion Sword, and performing a three-hit jump combo on the beast should knock it down, allowing for more hits. Constantly keep the beast down and you will claim victory before long.

The Rock-’n’-Roller

Name: Burning Tortoise
Hunter Points: 12,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Nine
Location: Juraika: Path to the Altar - Teleport to Path to the Altar: Crash Cruiser and you will see the Thinking Circle.
Required Item: CO2 Powder
Strategy:

The Burning Tortoise, much like the Flame Tortoise beasts it resembles, begins the battle with a shield, so unleash a charge attack on it by holding until your character glows, and then release it. Once the shield is removed, apply your usual buffs and unload on the beast. It is weak to ice, so using Kisala’s Dagger Slash ability will increase her damage output on the quarry.

The Fallen Monarch

Name: Winged Garuda VII
Hunter Points: 22,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Eleven
Location: Mariglenn: Ti’atha Forest - Near the merchant past the Midpoint.
Required Item: Alexander
Strategy:

Winged Garuda VII is similar to the Phantom Lord Gazel boss from the Gladius Towers, and employs similar attacks, but has a few new tricks up its sleeve, and hits much harder. It begins the battle with a barrier, so destroy it with Jaster’s Barrier Break Shot. Apply your usual buffs and stay healed, because Winged Garuda VII can chop off a large amount of HP in one hit. However, with Jaster’s Illusion Sword and attack boosting buffs, it should not be too long before the quarry succumbs.

The Ancient Fairy

Name: Kemkul Muk
Hunter Points: 16,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Nine
Location: Juraika: Leo King’s Castle - In the very first room, in the middle of a hall.
Required Item: Zipangu’s Axe
Strategy:

Kemkul Muk is a heavy hitter, but its attacks are very slow and easy to avoid. Simply apply your usual buffs, Jaster’s Illusion Sword, and circle around the beast and attack from behind in order to avoid its attacks.

The Labyrinth Terror

Name: Pandora
Hunter Points: 17,500 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Nine
Location: Rosa: Labyrinth - Teleport to the Maze of Chaos. The Thinking Circle is located in the Antechamber.
Required Item: Nebuladon Egg
Strategy:

Pandora resembles a very large Mimic, and has the same attack patterns as a Mimic. Thus, treat it as such. First, Pandora begins the battle with a barrier, so destroy it with Jaster’s Barrier Break Shot. Then apply your buffs and Jaster’s Illusion Sword, and get behind the beast to attack it so that you do not get caught in its line of fire, as it is a very heavy hitter, just like regular Mimics. Considering that you have most likely had much practice with regular Mimics, the Pandora should not pose much of a problem, just make sure to stay healed up.

The Rogue Pirates

Name: Lil’ Devils
Hunter Points: 19,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Twelve
Location: Rosa: Salgin - Outside of the Spaceport entrance. Walk towards the town and turn right into the first open space.
Required Item: Lucky Clover
Strategy:

The Lil’ Devils are unique in that there are three of them, and they share one life bar. Because there are three of them, there is the danger of them all ganging up on one of your party members and making short work of them. It is important to always target the same pirate and defeat it quickly, instead of spacing out your attacks, to minimize the chances of being ganged up on. With attack buffs and Illusion Sword, you should be able to defeat them each quickly. Make sure to always stay healed up, however, in case you get ganged up on.

The Envoy From On High

Name: Sacred Thunder Dragon
Hunter Points: 12,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Twelve
Location: Mariglenn: Gulza Sanctuary - Near the Plaza transporter.
Required Item: Sealing Sunsphere
Strategy:

The Sacred Thunder Dragon is one of the most powerful quarries you will face. Its regular attacks hit very hard and cause Daze, a lightning attack that can cause Paralyzer, and it has a fire breath attack that causes On Fire and can hit your whole party if they are all located in front of the dragon. Further, the Sacred Thunder Dragon is flying above ground, so you must jump and attack in order to damage it. The beast begins the battle with a barrier, so destroy it with Jaster’s Barrier Break Shot. Then apply attack boosting buffs and Jaster’s Illusion Sword. Chances are very high that you will go through many healing items throughout this battle, so be sure to come prepared. Be sure to stay healed up and keep your buffs active and you will persevere.

The Seaside Terror

Name: Skeldon
Hunter Points: 12,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Nine
Location: Alistia: Nalvasa Seaway - At the beginning of the area, on the beach.
Required Item: Pirate’s Grog
Strategy:

Skeldon resembles the Panther Eels found in the Nalvasa Seaway. Like these enemies, it can burrow down into the ground and become invulnerable to damage for a while, as well as use a sweeping attack that knocks down and dazes your party. It is not a heavy hitter, however, and by applying attack buffs and Jaster’s Illusion Sword, you should be able to make short work of it. Just make sure to always stay healed up.

Raft to the Underworld

Name: Oedious’ Vessel
Hunter Points: 12,000 P
Earliest you can purchase quarry information: Chapter Nine
Location: Alistia: Nalvasa Seaway - Teleport to the Endpoint, and head south.
Required Item: Dark Music Box
Strategy:

Oedious’ Vessel is more frustrating than it is difficult. It has a swipe attack and a dash attack that knocks you down, and getting caught in these attacks can be very annoying. Oedious’ Vessel, however, can only damage those directly in front of it. Thus, after applying attack boosting buffs and Jaster’s Illusion Sword, be sure to attack it from the side or from behind. Chances are you will have to run after it constantly because it uses its dash attack very often, but keep your buffs up and stay healed up, and you should have no trouble downing this beast.

Quarries (aka Bounties) are special search-and-destroy missions in which the task is to hunt down a unique enemy that will reward a huge amount of Hunter Points. They can be started by talking to Faye at Galaxy Corporation Headquarters after paying an information fee in advance.

After you have purchased the information, you need to find the corresponding location, which will be marked with a question mark. Here you will need to select a specific item from your inventory as bait for a specific hunt.

Technically, Jester gets his first hunt by killing the Salamander Mk.VIII that invades Salgin's Residential District at the start of the game.

Here is a link to the forum with all the hunts.

Hunts in the game are very simple, even easier than some of the random battles at the end of the game
Everyone is absolutely taken to the Galactic Corporation building. Quite dull in general, I advise you to do them as soon as possible, because they can also require certain items that you can easily drain out of ignorance.
