How to unlock the Plutophobia achievement in Rogue Legacy - Definitive Guide
The other guide is technically correct that you only need to buy 50 upgrades to your manor in order to unlock this achievement, but there are some tips and tricks to working to this goal.
-Upgrade costs increase across the board as you level up. So a Lvl 5 health upgrade while at Level 10 vs Level 20 will be very different. Therefore, you will need to be saving up more gold for each individual upgrade
-Due to the constant increase in cost, you'll want to consider ways to continue to build your income. As you get stronger, consider investing in the Miner class, Lich payment decrease, or increased coin upgrades, The Miner will give you a boost to each gold pickup, the Lich will stop taking all your money when re-entering the castle, and the boost will give more gold per pickup.
-If you beat the first boss (Giant Eye) before reaching Level 50, consider still going through the main castle area to collect more gold on subsequent runs. You should be able to get through it pretty easily and can collect a lot of extra gold. After that, work through the forest (area at the right side of the map) to collect gold.
With a little effort, you'll quickly collect the gold to make the necessary upgrades. The first 50 aren't overly expensive, but this should help speed it up a little bit as well.

Your character(s) gain a level whenever you spend a point in something in the Manor. Simply keep spending gold on upgrading your manor and you'll reach Level 50.
You go up a level each time you buy an upgrade to your manor. You can check your level in the upper left corner of the screen.
You level up in the game by purchasing skills in the Manor. You will reach level 32 just by unlocking everything in the Manor for the Decidophobia. Unless you are actively avoiding purchasing skills, you will likely earn this naturally across your 2 playthroughs.
Leveling up in this game happens each time you buy a new skill in the Manor, and is completely unrelated to killing enemies. One skill (or skill point) equals one level, so you'll need to buy 50 skills across the entire Manor to reach level 50 and unlock this achievement.
This achievement will come naturally during your first playthrough, as there's absolutely no way you'll be able to beat all bosses and beat the game without reaching level 50. I was around level 100 at the end of my first playthrough. My recommendation would be to never use the Architect during your first playthrough, as that will severely limit the amount of money you collect for upgrades. Always start fresh and fully explore the castle, then the Forest, etc., to amass thousands of gold each run so you can always afford more upgrades, and you'll reach level 50 in no time.
