How to unlock the Excavator achievement in Roguebook - Definitive Guide

Opening a gemstone and choosing a gem will save the game however if you don't choose one and hit cn_start, select Main menu then continue - the gems will be back in the stone and you can get credit for opening it again.

You have to do this 5 times to get 1% on the achievement tracker so it's a slog but way faster than trying to get this normally.

*Update* Thanks to Eohjay for figuring out that the achievement tracker is bugged and will lie/stop keeping track eventually but the achievement is still unlockable if you keep "doing the thing" till it unlocks. This same bug is an issue in other achievements like the other "do something 500 times" for example so keep that in mind for the other ones as well.

Sorry to hear the percentage isn't progressing for people after a certain point. This game is very buggy so I'm not too surprised I guess. I've had the game crash on me 4 different times and 3 were in different ways, one including my system shutting itself down and the controller dash light got stuck flashing and wouldn't stop till I rebooted. Really bizarre crash, usually a game will just freeze or show an error code.
My current struggle is trying to get the story event Rain of Fish, technically it's the last event needed but the game screwed me on 2 other events and I of course have no idea which 2 because I was keeping track on paper and not checking the achievement tracker each time to see if it "actually" counted or not. "This is bullshit" is correct, even if I ever get Rain of Fish to happen I still have to do countless runs through all 3 Chapters since I have no clue what 2 events I need now... or if they will even count the next time for that matter!
Looks like the last couple achievements in this might be a lost cause because of how badly bugged it is so my efforts towards them will probably cease at some point but I'm definitely not having fun in this game anymore.

This method saves hundreds of hours. Thanks. Getting maybe 3-4 per complete run and needing 500? Very out of line compared to the rest of the game progression for cards, embellishments, etc

Yeah this achievement is absolutely ridiculous along with a couple of other ones, I've logged in over 150 hours on the game and I'm only at 29% so that's pretty silly of the devs to expect 500 out of people.

Is this stuck at 75% for anyone else?

Stuck at 98%, just farmed up from 41% today and it refuses to budge. Let me know if you figure anything out and I'll do the same.

edit: Tried both versions of the game. Xbox One and Series X|S. Tried a different console. Tried a fresh install. Tried multiple new runs. Meanwhile the Skytower achievement still progresses. This is bullshit. Waited until the game was supposedly fixed and then still running into issues with multiple achievements is horrible.

You can trigger Rain of Fish pretty easily. Use the embellishment that shows all the gold on the map and causes hp damage when picked up. Aurora has to have low HP, mine is usually around 5hp, to trigger the event. It's still random at that point, but if her HP is high it doesn't even have a chance.

My tracker shows 3 events missing, but there are only two I think I'm missing. I'll probably end at 97.5 there.

Thanks for the tip, I was unaware that her HP had anything to do with it so I'll give that a try. I was using the Greed is Good Epilogue to show the gold actually, it turns off the 2 massive piles from being a possible target by the runes of sight. Along with turning off some Embellishments you can reduce the things a rune of sight can target by 10 total so I was doing that only all those many many dozens of times. 😔
Okay I'll make sure she's jacked-up really good before trying to open any of the scrolls. Thanks again!

I ended up getting it to track again. I'm not sure how.

My only thought it that somehow when I got the tracker up to 98% and quit out it didn't actually save that progress. But, the tracker still showed 98% as the "highest reached".

Getting more gemstones didn't cause it to increase, but I wouldn't have noticed it if it were still down in the 40% range. Did it all again in one sitting and eventually I "re-surpassed" the 98% and it unlocked.

Fingers crossed I can figure out the last 3 story events now.

Congrats on the achievement, glad it ended up working somehow.

Thanks for letting us know that it's still unlockable too, albeit not likely in a cleancut fashion as one would hope for but unlockable nonetheless I guess.

Mine got stuck at 77% but I just unlocked it thanks to @eohjay for the tip of doing it all without quitting out of the game.

That's awesome Yama, congrats on the achievement and thanks for sharing to let other people know that (basically) the achievement tracker will lie about the % at some point but it's unlockable at least if you ignore the tracker and keep the repetition up till it unlocks. Unfortunately there's other achievements with this same issue where the tracker lies or stops working altogether eventually.

Thanks again to Eohjay for basically figuring out that the tracker just breaks at some point.
