How to unlock the Crazy Science Machine achievement in RWBY: Grimm Eclipse - Definitive Guide

SOLO guide

Chapter: Boots on the ground
Character: Weiss level 2 or above with improved barrage unlocked
Strategy: At the end of the stage you will enter a cave with a defense point in it. At the back of the cave on the right hand side is a flat rock. If you stand on this rock enemies will not be able to hit you. When the waves start all you need to do is jump and hit RT three times over and over. Try and aim at any enemies that aren't facing you so you can aggro them before they try and attack the defense point. I was able to do this solo with a level 2 Weiss.

Another Solo guide:
This can be done at the end of level 2, choosing Blake you go to the far corner of the map, wait for everything to spawn and use ranged attacks to attract anything that goes nearby the station. That way they will only focus on you and ignore attacking the base

Here is a video to give you an idea:

Our group found the wave encounter at the end of Chapter 2: Technical Difficulties, to be the easiest. It's a little more open than the first wave encounter from the chapter before.

Ideal Team:
Weiss- her ranged attack is extremely powerful. Her ultimate also pushes Grimm away from the casting location, so it is very helpful to help get Grimm off of the point.
Ruby- The Lightning upgrade for her ranged attack stuns enemies with the third proc, this is very helpful since the initial spawn of Grimm can be a bit overwhelming.
Blake- The first upgrade for her ultimate does a large amount of damage to Grimm and pulls their focus.
I suggest a second Weiss for the fourth character. Her utility is by far the most useful for doing this achievement!

Upgrades:
I suggest playing through the game before attempting this, just so you get use to the characters and don't get frustrated, because some Grimm have their own agenda and disregard everything and set their sights on the point. This means you will have 10 points to spend.
I suggest upgrading the ultimate tree, the ranged tree, don't worry about the team skill tree, upgrade the number of ultimate charges and increase the amount of damage you can absorb when your aura is depleted. If this isn't what you have put points in already, don't sweat it, their is a "re-spec" option in the menu!
If you are tight on your point budget, the points I recommend most are upgrades to your characters ranged attacks as the main strategy includes spamming.

Strategy:
-First and foremost, DO NOT GROUP UP! Grimm spawn all around the point and you want to stay spread to cover all enemies.
-Stay away from the point you are protecting. You want to stay about 3/4 of the way between the point and the spawning areas for the Grimm. If Grimm run near you in these wave defenses, 9 times out of 10 they will attack you instead, which is perfectly fine if you have the upgraded damage protection when aura is depleted spec!
-Use ranged attacks first. You want to pick off as many Grimm as you can, especially in the initial spawns of each wave. The only time I recommend switching to melee attacks is if you see a group of Grimm near the point. You should go ult them and use melee attacks to clean up the scraps, if any, as it is going to be faster.
-If you need to go use an ultimate, let someone else know, so they are aware that some Grimm might slip by the net of RWBY characters oyu have created.
-Communicate. Similar to the last point, just make sure you are talking with the other members in your game. If you need help, let them know, simple as that.
-Lastly, it's a video game! Have fun with this challenge, try not to get frustrated and continue working towards it if it doesn't work out!

Best of luck fellow achievement hunters!

p.s. If you think I've missed something, or have a different opinion, do let me know with a comment! :D
p.s.s This worked well for our group. You might find some strategies useful, but on a different wave encounter!

During waved encounters where you protect a point, a flawless wave is when no enemies manage to damage the point. You will know if you have achieved one if you get a bonus at the end of the round saying ‘Flawless wave’. This is best done with a level 10 Blake and her ‘Stun blades’ ability on chapter 2 ‘Technical difficulties’. During the protection mission at the end of the level stand in the furthest most corner from where you came in. Most enemies will spawn next to you with some spawning to the left. Hit the far away enemies with your stun blades, this will aggro them and they fill fight you and leave the point alone. Do this for each round and your achievement will unlock.
