How to unlock the Catching up achievement in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl - Definitive Guide
You CAN shoot your own gernade. (Shotguns don't count towards this acehievement so don't use them)
aim into the sky and throw your gernade, next take out a weapon and shoot at it. I used AR416 and hit it and the achievement is mine.
Or 'underhand throw' (tap and shoot it takes a few tries
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Other achievements in the first town area:
('On The Go') 2/58
at this point you should have bread and sausages, eat both quickly from your inventory and you will unlock an achievement
('Goss') 3/58
Beside the first shop keeper you meet go outside to the fireplace where stalkers are likely talking, sit down
('Keeping your hands steady') 4/58
NOTE: YOU CANNOT AIM as it will ALWAYS bring you character into standing (above the fence voiding the achievement), JUST aim where the crosshair would be and shoot!
Stand up and go to the wall of the shop there should be a small bench with a stalker sitting there, hop over the fence and drink multiple Vodka, once your vision is blurry take out a shotgun and shoot (through the fence) where the guy's head should be
No Obstacle too big... 5/58
Using the same stalker from the 'keeping your hands steady' jump behind the fence (save) and shoot him in the head and it should progress you towards 'Clincher' and No Obstacle too big...'
Tit for tat 6/58
Go to Hamster (the ammo/gun merchant) and sell him 1 bread and buy 1 9x19mm+P ammo.
Catching Up 7/58
If you have gernades, aim into the sky and throw it, next take out a weapon and shoot at it. I used AR416 and hit it and the achievement is mine.

Maka91 is spot on. Underhand a grenade directly above you, swap to any automatic weapon and either hip-fire or ADS (doesn't matter really) and you should nail at with the first couple rounds, got it on my first try and three more times consecutively after to test.

Yep! Left Trigger aiming straight up made me shoot a grenade right in my face on the first try. Semi Auto AKM-74S on accident.
Also a tip I found with a glitch. If you swap weapon after you release the grenade, it flies out but doesn't leave your inventory. Was helpful when I had a billion rats swarming me in a sewer.

Just after completing the tutorial, you will come up against three men firing on a cabin. The one in the brown coat for sure has grenades.
This may be glitched. I shot two grenades with my shotgun mid-air, and no achievement popped. If anybody has any luck, please post, and I will update the solution.

I shot one on the ground after it had landed and got the achievement, hope that helps.

For those that it unlocked, did you use a specific gun? That double barrel shotgun, i legit shot it out of the sky and no pop.
I will be updating the achievement guide so please only upvote for proper info.

You can shoot your own grenades, I just did it by aiming at the sky and throwing one then shooting it mid air with my pistol. Shotguns don't seem to work as I did it multiple times with one and it didn't pop

Thanks zI Sk%C3%B6ll Iz this worked like a charm. Took me a few tries but it beats having to dodge gunfire before an npc throws a grenade

Can you shoot your own grenade?
By KingpinAlec on 23 Nov 2024 01:25
This one is cheeky. The description says to shoot an “incoming” grenade, however you can actually shoot your own grenade, making this one much easier to unlock. I recommend having a rifle ready and to have the setting on full-auto, so you can spray a few bullets into the air. Save the game before attempting this one, so you don’t run out of grenades.
Throw the grenade as high up, vertically, as you can, giving yourself more time to shoot it. Then, after you’ve thrown it upwards, switch to your rifle (I used an AKS-74U) and fire at the grenade. With a little luck, some good aim, and a few patient attempts, the Catching up achievement will then unlock.

You don't need to catch the grenades flying at you from enemies. It's enough to throw your grenade above you and shoot it with any weapon. Preferably with a shotgun, to make it easier.
