How to unlock the S.U.R.V.I.V.E.D. achievement in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl - Definitive Guide

The game is much better experienced on either Veteran or Master, due to the fact that both you and enemies take less damage, making the game way faster to go through. EDIT: apparently this is a bit of a myth, so i guess i felt a placebo effect or something :/ anyhoo, the game is still very doable even on Master

1. Make a habit of saving, a lot. Every time you clear a room or a group of 5-6 enemies you should do a save. You can overwrite saves so that the list doesn't get clogged.
2. The pistols aren't very useful, instead it's better to have two rifles with different ammo or a rifle+shotgun. It takes half a second to swap them from the inventory and with some practice you'll get used to doing this in a fight behind cover.
3. Disable aim assist tracking - it only ruins your aiming
4. Make sure to take advantage of leaning with RB and LB when aiming the gun
5. If you're in an area with lots of opponents ahead and low on ammo, backtrack a bit and find weapons dropped by enemies, pick them up and press "unload" on them in the inventory to get some ammo, drop them afterwards.
6. Use single shot fire (LB+Y to change fire mode) on rifles with scopes and go for headshots.
7. The best rifle in the game is the GP-37 - as soon as you find it stick with it as it's very accurate and uses a common ammo type

FYI I'm not even sure I should post it, but if you change the difficulty setting just before any ending, e.g.
*** Spoiler - click to reveal ***
, it'll also unlock.

I played the whole game on the lowest difficulty, made a separate save and changed the difficulty level there and it worked.

I think it'll most definitely be fixed eventually, so grab it while you can.

^ I swear I was worried about that with it being an older game but done the hardest difficulty so far just incase all that sweat and save scumming for nothing, going to turn down difficulty now thanks for the confirmation

I'm debating that myself. I've been playing on veteran the entire time, and while it's challenging, it's been fun. However, right near the end there's an absolutely massive difficulty spike that just makes it completely miserable. I might just go ahead and drop it to novice, so I don't have to pull my hair out anymore.

@MC PHILABUSTA - you can play the whole game on Novice. Eventually, in the Sarcophagus, you'll climb some stairs, around that area you'll find multiple enemies. After killing them all, if you're going for the Wish Granter, you can change the difficulty just after that fight and enter the reactor room, where the Wish Granter is. Unless you're going to the door you can only open with a decoder you should not face any other enemies at that point.

It doesn't matter which ending you get for this achievement.
