How to unlock the Overprepared achievement in Sacred 3 - Definitive Guide

To achieve this, you will have to complete specific side missions that are scattered throughout the map. You can recognize these missions as they have a 'star' icon on the map; these 'star' side missions are an arena type mission where you'll face 5 waves of enemies. The rest of the side missions are small circles so you can differentiate; they consist of defeating all the enemies on a smaller map that you must traverse.
You will get 2 capacity upgrades and an item regeneration upgrade when playing the 'circle' side missions on either the Warrior, Champion or Legend difficulties. The final upgrades will be attained by playing the requisite 'circle' side missions on Deity difficulty. You do not need to play the 'star' side missions on deity difficulty.

My friend apparently has 7 health potions but I did everything listed here and can only get 6. Does anyone know what is going on?

I've done all of the above without the achievement popping - could it be bugged for the pre-order bonus character?

Perhaps start on normal and do all the sidequests again, then switch to deity and do those again.. it's the only way to be sure that you've done them all. It shouldn't take very long. If you see one that's kind of greyed out, then you haven't completed it.

Just earned this myself. Some notes:

In the Item Shop in the Lobby, you should have 6 item types unlocked. Except for Health Potion, you should have five 'slots' that you can fill up for those items, and two slots should have a double-arrow icon (indicating they 'Regenerate' up to that point for free). Potions has six slots, with four regeneration icons.

You need to make sure you've done the 'STAR' stages that unlock the item types before you do the circle stages that upgrade items. Otherwise, the upgrades do not count and you have to replay those stages once more. Unknown: Whether you need to replay the STAR stages on Deity difficulty.

If you haven't completed a circle stage, it will be grey. If you've completed it, it will turn green, with the Heart of Ancaria icon as its backdrop. If you've completed it but did not earn the upgrade, the item itself will be grey. When the upgrade is earned, it will be colored in (green for potion/healing totem, yellow for energy totem, purple for protection, blue for sentry, red for smart bomb).

It is possible to complete an upgrade stage but not earn the upgrade. Two ways I can think of:
1) You join the level right after the last monsters are defeated, but before the players exit. You probably get the win, but the upgrade unlocks immediately after the defeat of monsters.
2) You didn't complete the original star stage that unlocks the item itself. You will not get credit for upgrades until you have the base item itself.
You can verify which stages you lost out on an upgrade by looking for any circle stages that do not have the item colored in (it's still grey), even if the circle itself is green. Make sure you check this on Warrior difficulty, then on Deity difficulty.

Lastly, there seems to be two stages that look like upgrades, but I don't know what they're for. "Shalekarst", which is east of Shaddar Cage in the SE, and "Dustwillow", which is west of Icecreek Sanctuary in the NW. I cannot vouch whether they are required, as the item looks a bit transparent even after completion.

Apart from Health Potion (which is given to you in the first mission), all other items are unlocked in the arena side missions.

Energy totem - Hidden Grotto
Healing totem - Oakshade
Protection aura - Lost Catacombs
Magic sentry - Defiled Mausoleum
Smart bomb - Silver Creek

The first upgrades for each is unlocked in the side missions with the item's corresponding picture at Warrior, Champion or Legend difficulty. The last three upgrades are unlocked by doing the same thing but on Deity difficulty (which is unlocked by completing the game on any difficulty).

I did it on Champion and Deity; the lower difficulty doesn't matter I don't think (although I didn't try on Warrior). Only the side missions with an item icon in the corner, the ones with just a circle don't unlock an item.

Basically all you have to do is do every side mission on the difficulty of your choosing and then on Deity all you have to do is the circle ones NOT the star shaped ones.

Item upgrades are the side-quests with a symbol in their picture. The first upgrade will unlock an item, before that, you cannot use that item (except for health potions, these are automatically unlocked as you start the 1st mission). The following upgrades consist either in increasing the maximum number of an item or an activation/increase of an auto-regenerate function, that automatically restocks your potions to a certain amount.

In order to max out all item upgrades you have to complete these side-missions once on Warrior, Champion or Legend and once on Deity. These item upgrades consist of the following items:

Health Potion: Healing and resurrection
Healing Totem: Creates a stationary sphere, inside which you and other players receive healing for about 8 seconds
Energy Totem: Refills your energy bar. Attacking enemies and taking damage also slowly refills your energy bar.
Smart Bomb: Powerful bomb that won't hurt either yourself nor your party.
Magic Sentry: A stationary device that attacks enemies, lasts only a few seconds.
Protection Aura: Creates an aura around you that protects you and other players from damage. You receive less damage for about 10 seconds.

Once maxed, each item can have a maximum amount of 5 units, except Health Potions with 6 units (due to tutorial mission). These items partly auto-regenerate at the start of a new mission but auto-regeneration only restores a maximum of 2 of each item except Health Potions, because here 4 items are restored.

First you need to go through all the extras. missions (indicated by the corresponding icons) that give potions, shields, bombs, etc. on the available (initially open) difficulties, and then complete the same missions at max. difficulty level

If you are playing the game for the first time and immediately on legendary difficulty, then you do not need to play on lower difficulties. Just go through the Divinity difficulty and the trophy will drop. Tested for myself.
