How to unlock the Never back down achievement in Sacred Citadel - Definitive Guide
To initiate challenges you must first visit the Town by pushing on the level select screen, find the "bookie" UPC in the level and talk to him, you will then be able to select your challenge, they cost you 100 coins and go up 100 per Act, if you complete the challenge you will gain double the coins you paid.
You can only attempt one challenge at a time. Also, there is no way to specify what level it activates on, it will simply start that specific challenge on an unlocked level in whatever act you are in. Once you go back to the level select screen you will see "challenge" on whichever level it activated on.
There are 3 challenges per level (60 challenges total), they are seperated into 3 categories and are the same for every level:
LIFE
Probably the easiest of the challenges, simply beat the level without dying. If you are having any trouble on a specific level, simply move on and come back when you have leveled up and have better gear. This is also a good way to keep track of this achievement:
TIME
Another easy challenge set. You must beat the level in the allotted time, most levels are pretty lenient on the time. Make sure and sprint or roll through parts of the level where there are no enemies and just try and be as fast as possible. Again, if you are having trouble hitting par time come back later at a higher level and with better gear and you will blow through the level.
DAMAGE
I suggest going for these challenges first, as it may be difficult to get the earlier level damage challenges done once you reach a higher character level.
The points are earned based on your combo, the higher your combo the more points you will get for attacking enemies. The reason to knock this out first is that if you are to strong and killing enemies in a few hits, you will not get that many points, BUT using this simple trick will ensure you get this challenge done on every level regardless of your character strength.
When you have only one enemy left on the screen (preferably not damaged) perform the uppercut combo to knock the enemy into the air, immediately jump (), then combo, once you touch the ground jump and do the combo again, rinse and repeat until you hit 6,666 points. Even though the enemy dies you can continue to perform this combo until the enemy hits the ground, but the enemy must be alive on the initial uppercut attack.
Most enemies will bounce pretty high after the combo allowing for an easy repeat, the Grimmoc (Orc) enemies tend not to bounce very high so you will need to be quick to repeat the combo on them.
If you are coming back to this at a higher level, visit the Town in any act and visit the blacksmith and equip the lowest level weapons possible if you are killing the enemies too fast.
In case you are struggling (like me) on the 1st score challenge.
(I was rank 27, when I started doing Act 1-1 Wellbury Town)
And it took me 2 hours. Today I found out there's an easier way:
Solution:
Put in 1 or 2 more controllers, let them idle.
You fight and build up combo !
You only need to move dummies up, after you killed all enemies.
I did this as rank 32 and killed m all in 1 hit, but since they all go for your dummies, your combo will be at 99x most of the time.
Downthing:
You need to get money on dummies to start the challenge, because you need to go into town.
And activated the challenge before starting!
Have fun !
if you can't beat to score challenges, try to follow things.
this is for Mage.
i think other charactor are not same.
main weapon(X button action) -> High damage.
sub weapon(X button action) -> Low damage.
secondary weapon(Y button action) -> Low damage.
you attack to many enemies at same if you can.
X*Y, AXXXY.
(* = upper)
I got 43,000 with this method at 1-1. Good luck!!
When you start with a new character you want to go into the village everytime you finish a level and everytime you are in the village start the `score challenge` for the next level.
Your scor will be higher if you are a lower rank because you get more hitpoints (and your combocounter will be bigger)....because of this make sure that after you finish a level to go into the village and buy the `score challenge` for the next level. This will make it less frutstrating because you will finish this challange for every level while just playing through the game with a character.
Oh and yeah avoid mounting one of those beasts or going into the tank....you get lesser points killing enemies with those. Everytime i boarded one of those my score was lower at the end of the level. Maybe it won`t give you any problems but if you can`t make the score maybe this was the problem.
The life and time challenges can be done when you are leveled up (it will be easier if you are leveled up). Just finish the game and afterwards start with these. First start with the life challenges because you will net some more xp in the last chapters so you level up some more before you go for the time challenges. If you are having some problems with the time challenges you could level up some more by replaying the last levels of this game (and if you replay the last boss over and over you can get better weapons).
There are 3 challenges per level. They are for not dying, for scoring a a certain damage bonus, and for beating the level in par time. To get these challenges you must unlock the level first. While highlighting it, go to down by pressing . Now go to where there is a well and a guy whom is the bookkeeper. He will ask you if you want to place a bet. Talk to him and he will ask you to pay gold to do one of the challenges. The gold required raises by 100 each act. You can only do one at a time, meaning you must complete the levels a minimum of 3 times with the same character, actually beating the challenges asked. This gives you a full 2 minimum extra playthroughs.
You can easily get the time limit and no death one by leveling up your character very high and completing the game, then going back to do them. The damage one is a bit trickier and you may have to equip lesser weapons because the damage bonus is based off of combos, and if you kill an enemy in one shot you cannot combo them. Using weaker weapons on earlier levels, you will need to juggle enemies to gain the score. The score is actually 6,666 on every level. Use the combo then up on + to knock the enemy into the air. Jump and press to juggle the enemy and relaunch it into the air. Even when dead, you can still gain the score off the enemy. This can be repeated over and over.
This solution found in this thread here: Score Challenge Thread by ponypo2001 is extremely accurate in telling you how you need to accomplish the score challenges on the early levels with your high level character.
