How to unlock the Soprano achievement in Saints Row 2 - Definitive Guide
Go to Scratch That and buy the Take On Me by Ah-Ha. Make a custom playlist with only that song and tune to the custom playlist station while in a car. Then it should just be a matter of minutes.
Will also work with several other songs from The Mix radio station.

Damnit! Bat Country by A7X came up on the radio and I was sitting there singing it into the 360 mic thinking that was how you get the achievement...now I feel stupid. So your character just automatically sings when they hear a song enough?

From official Saints Row 2 blog;
Quite a few people know about the hidden Achievement in Saints Row 2 called “Soprano”, with the description of “Sung along to the radio”. The best part of the description for the achievement, is that I had heard many cases of individuals actually singing into their headset to try to get the achievement to unlock, which is pretty hilarious.
For those that figured it out, to unlock the achievement, you need to be listening to 107.7 The Mix, and if a few specific songs play when you are customized with one of the six voice options, your in-game character will start to sing along to the song. Yes, we actually had all six of our main voice actors record themselves singing along to some of the greatest 80’s hits of all time. The easiest way to get the achievement is to listen to “Take On Me” by A-Ha, since all six of the voice actors have that specific song, plus one of their own.
Today I received a private message to our VolitionTube account which had the following video attached, and it’s pretty amazing. He actually took the time to stitch together all 6 voice recordings and create the symphony below. It truly is a work of art.

How far into this song do I need to go? I'm pretty far but nothing.
Eh, the game/song/achievement answered my question for me. The song has to be played in its entirety.

This can also work with Working for The Weekend. It doesnt always have to 1 song in the playlist unless you want it fast. I herd my guy sing Working for the Weekend and I had a full playlist.
Easiest way is have the one song in your playlist.

Your character will theoretically sing along to any song, but "Take Me On" by A-Ha seems to be the most common. When driving any vehicle, hit or to tune the radio. Go to "107.77 The Mix FM", and wait for the song to come on. Your character may not sing along the first time, but he eventually will, earning you an achievement.
If you don't want to wait, go to any music store and buy the song. (under Rock) Then, set up a custom playlist with just that song by going to the Pause Menu > Radio > Playlist Editor > Rock > Take On Me. Then tune your car radio to "My Radio 85.5". After a few minutes, the achievement will unlock.
