How to unlock the Fourth and Forty achievement in Saints Row IV: Re-Elected - Definitive Guide

The 40 hours only counts whilst you are within the simulation so your time on the ship does not count.

After completing the main story and the 'DLC' packs I had around 30ish hours but you can, if you wish, leave the game running to grind the hours out though unlike the 360 plugging a controller in with a charge cable does not keep it on so you will need to move/press a button to stop it from turning off. Calex dEUS and Scubbasteve223 have confirmed that you can keep a One controller on by removing the batteries and plugging in a micro USB into your console, much like the old ways of the play and charge kit on the 360!

Your time across different saves does count if you need to use another or start a new game.

Obviously you can turn the achievement tracker on to track your time played. (Tap cn_guide then cn_LSl to the achievements tab)
Don't forget to turn off your console's auto off in your settings and disable the idle notifications in your notifications settings.

Going off of what Calex said, I can confirm that his battery theory is spot on.

I took the batteries out of my controller, plugged in the controller with a USB-to-Micro cord (the one you use to update your controller), and let the game sit idle - no rubber bands or anything. After two hours, the game was still running. The only thing that stopped it was that the game popped up a "Lost Connection to Live" message a bit after that two hours.

I am going to let it sit overnight and see if it happens again, but I have a feeling that that message was simply from my internet cutting out without my notice.

Alright, I left it on overnight, with the controller set up as described above, and there were no issues. Achievement popped after eleven hours.

Is the controller updated? Could be a reason. Also is the cable connected to the console?

that was not the reason, but still a good call :) it helped me troubleshoot that my usb cable was broken, as it couldnt test if my controller was up to date with the one i was using. im sure it will Work now. thanks a lot for the help...sadly i cant test it now, as i was forced to download a new 5.4 gb patch when i reentered the game

apparently there is a lot of difference between micro usb cables. a normal cheap chargecable cant be used, as they might not have all the pins inserted in the microusb part. to make the above Work, you need a cable that have all the pins connected for datatransfer. my cable for my Nokia Lumia phone Works, but the ones from my powerbanks dont f.ex ..

Most of us have mobile phone cables though which are used for exactly that luckily :P

i know...just wanted to add my findings for anyone who would stumble in here with the same problem, as i personally had no idea that a micro usb cable wasnt just a micro usb cable :)

For a charge cable\plug n play cable, you can easily order one from Amazon for under $10 (I ordered mine for $3). As long as it is a data transfer USB to micro USB, it should work fine. I had been using my phone charge cable after disconnecting the USB cord from the plug and have never had an issue. Hope this helps!

Kinda sure the overall time is taken, since I spend nearly 20 hours outside the simulation before reading this solution, and my counter at this very moment is at 97%
Have to wait for the last 3 percent though, but I'm sure this will work out
At least I don't want to leave my One on over night again...

Just thought I should mention, I left my game on overnight using the method of no batteries and having a micro USB cable connected. I rubber banded both sticks so that my character was always moving. I did NOT get any progress added to the achievement. This is with the new NXOE update, so not sure if that changes anything. I will leave it on again while I'm at work, this time adding another rubber band for the LB bumper and report my findings.

There were achievement issues that night with some people not having achievements pop so perhaps that's why

Just thought I'd update, I actually left my controller alone, with no buttons or sticks rubber-banded. I STILL didn't get the achievement. I actually got it when I reset the game as soon as I got home. I guess the game stats synced up with the achievement progress then.

One extra thing I only realised today after supposedly leaving it on for 10ish hours and having 1 hour actually progress - make sure your xbox is not set to automatically turn off after 1 or 6 hours of inactivity if doing the USB cable method :)

Between this and the 360 version I had over 20 hours of idol time. With a 40 hour achievement I would of like to have something like 38 hours of the other achievements. Love the game none the less and one up for the guide.

HUGE tip here: I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my time wasn't advancing, and I figured it out. I had enabled a cheat (mass-hole car cheat) after I had finished the game, and doing so effectively stops the clock. The weirder part was that I couldn't un-cheat the game to where it would start rolling again, so I ended up picking a different save.

NOTE: when you're choosing a save to load, if it says "CHEATS ENABLED", you're best to move onto a different one.

Thumbs up, but you should edit your solution to include turning off an option in settings. In preferences -> Idle Options -> Show me things when I'm idle should be turned off. When it's on once you idle it will start showing you achievements that you are close to and what your friends are doing and it will freeze the game temporarily, much like how it freezes games when you press the xbox button.

Got this one just playing the game. I'm a big SR fan so this one just popped naturally. You can of course sit idle with a couple bandz.

Any reason you can think of that my controller turns off while plugged in? I rubberbanded it and everything, appreciate any help!

@zDrUnKeNMoNkEyz you are probably using an aftermarket cable to connect your controller. There are "data cables" and "power cables" for controllers, you need a "data cable" to easily tell which one you have, plug the cable into the system and remove the batteries from the controller, then plug the cable into the controller. If the controller just vibrates, then it is a power cable and cant be used to idle. If the controller turns on, it is a data cable and can be used to idle.

@snake42069 what if it vibrates just a little bit, like less than a second and then it turns on???

+1 on @snake42069 comment, ill add that the controller only turns on if the cable is connected to the console.

I find it funny that on TA, the Xbox app and the console itself are all different percentages. Is it 67%? Is it 71%? Is it 98%? Who knows...

Like others, I beat the game and got the other achievements under 30 hours.

The past 3 nights I've been idling the game to get this one. The 1st night it went up 10%, the 2nd it went up 1%, and the 3rd went up 3%...

According to the Xbox app, I'm now at 80% for this achievement, and I also now have over 58 hours into this game.

Happy hunting...

Edit - I finally got it. True Achievements says I have 82 hours and 15 minutes into the game.

I've been doing this leaving the controller idle while plugged in , it does as you say cut out but I have noticed it will stay connected for longer periods at times over others.

I'll do some testing later but from what I noticed it usually cut out when the pad reached a full charge. Can't say that with 100% certainty though.

Other than that it's time to break out the rubber bands laugh

Just as I thought, I unlocked the achievement right now, so it definitely has to be the total time, combined over all saves, since it unlocked at 39:38 for me
Also had a little issue with the Play&Charge Kit that I couldn't test and further, so maybe not worth mentioning
For those who do have problems with leaving the game running with a P&C, it's possible, but it seems to only work if you either take it or while being connected, or having it at full charge (Mine wasn't full when I plugged it in, and I got disconnected after the normal 15 minute period, while my controller was definitely on)
It's also possible to snap apps like twitch for example, the game keeps running in the background (You should probably set the volume of the main frame to 0 for this)
That's all, have fun hunting some achievements

I know this game is old but I thought I would add some advice for AFKing if you don't have a usb. If you have spotify on xbox you can play whatever you want and plug headphones into your controller and it will keep it from turning off. This works for all games and good luck achievement hunting!

Simply play in the simulation for 40 hours, if you happen to finish everything else before the 40 hours is up you can just leave it idle to rack up hours.

This is self explanatory. When you are done with everything, you may only be on 20-30 hours. After this, you can keep playing or just leave the game running. You don't have to be actively moving. The game will occasionally show the progress towards it, and you need to rack up 2400 minutes. This carries over between playthroughs so if you prefer, you can start a new game to make up any remaining time. In addition, time spent in the DLCs counts towards this so you can move on to those instead of idling for this trophy.

The trophy may be glitchy due to a stat curve. If, suddenly, you decide to leave the console turned on at night in order to get the missing clock, exit the game and log back in.

the game will turn off the gamepad and pause. but there is a way: leave the gamepad on the wire and not touch it (100% works on the ship).
IMPORTANT : if you touch the gamepad, the game will pause, but will not be saved. Also, the game does not autosave without entering the menu or taking any actions in the city.

During the process, I advise you to periodically leave the game on in the open world when you go about your business. This will allow you not to wait another 15-17 hours when you clear the entire map, plot and dlc (23-25 hours will be enough for all this).

The trophy is cumulative, if you failed with the “Where's My Cape?” trophy, then feel free to start a new game and do not wait 40 hours on your first playthrough.

1) In the console settings, go to the very bottom to the section: Energy Saving Settings - Set the time before turning off the PS4 system - set both items to "Do not turn off"
2) Press the PS button on the gamepad - Sound/Devices - Set the time before turning off the controllers - Do not turn off

After this you can sleep/work/walk peacefully, nothing will turn off and the statistics will work
PS - statistics are not counted in the menu and on the map, so stand on the edge of the city (less load on the system), return after 20 hours.
