How to unlock the Experimental Tech achievement in Saints Row IV - Definitive Guide

This one is a bit tricky because there doesn't seem to be a way to check your progress. It will only show up on the right-hand side of your screen for 25/150, 50/150, 75/150, etc. The progress bar for each weapon in the challenges menu are for all enemies killed with the respective weapon (this includes human and murderbots, which doesn't contribute to the achievement).

For my situation, I knew for sure I had killed 25 aliens with the dubstep, abduction, and bounce rifle. I began using the black hole gun since that was my least used weapon, and luckily, "Experimental Tech: 125/150" popped up on my screen. What's left was the disintegrator and inflato-ray, so I just alternated between them until the achievement popped.

I can confirm this achievement is buggy on the 360 version of this game. I had a lot more than 25 kills with each gun but no achievement. I then got a final kill with each gun and it popped. Very strange achievement.

you can track the following through the challenge list Bounce Rifle, Dubstep Gun, Inflato Ray and Disintegrated. There is also challenge for the Abducted and Black Hole but not sure if you can track kills with it.

The challenge list is inaccurate, it registers kills for some weapons and aliens for others, i literally have everything above 25 kills and i still don't have the cheevo

i agree the challenge list is messed up, the last thing I needed was the black hole gun and when I unlocked the gun the total showing in the challenge list was 15 from doing the mayhem activity that gives you the gun, I went to the restricted zone to get some kills and after looking at the challenge it showed that I had 33 kills but the achievement didn't unlock. it finally unlocked after I was screwing around and getting my noteriety up I got the final few kills that I needed.

You can unlock more weapons by finishing missions.

Glad I read this. All of the weapons showed way more than 25 kills in the challenges menu, but after checking this I went back to using the Inflato Ray since I hardly used that one.
On the first alien I killed the achievement popped.

I agree with the challenge list being inaccurate, for this achievement I had more than 25 kills for each of these weapons. After messing around, and finishing the DLC the achievement finally popped.

Do the police officers count as aliens?

Got way over 25 for each weapon and it won't pop. Achievement is buggy in a bad way.

I agree, this achievement is buggy! I have tallied each of the kills with all guns listed and it isn't popping! So frustrating. angry

EDIT: Just had to wait a bit and it ended up popping!

Idk if its just me but it seems the inflato ray only counts secondhand kills. So the enemy inflating and popping doesn't count, but those around that die from the pop do. My counter went from 5 to 25 pretty quick in the first fight of the Nyte Blayde mission.

I can't seem to find the black hole gun or inflato-ray anywhere in the stores or weapon cache? I'm in post-game with both DLCs completed and 99% overall completion.

The best way I found to do this after already completing the game is to kill some civilians or police until zin start spawning then head to the rooftops. It keeps you clear of tanks and the large sphere robots and portals will open up on the roofs with ordinary zin, plus hover bikers fly in for headshots with the disintegrator. You can just watch your notoriety with the red bars around the mini-map; I found it easiest to try and keep it in the 3rd to last segment or lower. When it got too high and I was getting murderbots, I'd fly off to another rooftop where more portals would open. It's rumoured the bots don't count towards this and can't be killed with some of the weapons anyhow, so I left those alone when those spawned; killed the fleshy targets and was off to another roof.

The last weapons i figured I had were the disintegrator and Inflato ray, but I'm sure this'd work great for the other weapons. It really helped to keep the big stuff away and small stuff spawning whilst I grinded out the achievement.

You will unlock these guns by doing missions and side missions. They are powerful and can kill Aliens quickly but after a certain amount of use, you need to wait for them to recharge. If you're have money you can upgrade them so they're more effective in power and charge speed. When you've unlocked one of these guns, equip it then kill Aliens with it until you get the notification that you've made progress (25, 50, 75 etc). If you use these guns one at a time like this, you make this trophy a lot easier on yourself as you'll know exactly when you have 25 kills with each gun, and you won't find yourself jumping randomly from gun to gun later trying to find out what you missed. The challenges count more than aliens so the figures there are not a reliable source of how many you have for each.

Since only Aliens count for this trophy (Thanks Dark_Raven666 for this information), the best way to grind if you still need this is to aggro aliens on the military island, as you can do this endlessly, albiet a bit slower than the other methods which don't work here.

The trophy is glitchy. I advise you not to look at the in-game statistics, they sometimes do not take into account some kills. Personally, I got the trophy when I killed 70-100 aliens with each weapon. But I’ll say right away that not everyone can catch something like this; for some, the trophy falls out as expected - here it’s apparently random.

The trophy is not glitchy, it’s just that not all kills count towards the trophy. They count only when the Alien kill sign is displayed when killed.
