You won't be able to proceed beyond the barricade you are hiding behind, so you'll need to get more creative. Behind Santa is the ball shooter that Sam could have tried out earlier (knocking Max over every time). Hovering above Santa is a flying plane on a track. On one of the shelves is a cannon that will perpetually shoot out cannonballs. So, the goal is to fly a cannonball over to the ball shooter to knock Santa out.
Use the Present Machine to load up a present to hide behind. Use your Gun to first shoot the lever on the wall near the exit so the plane will stop just above the trampoline (it will have a delay before it stops, so shoot it when it's near the tree in its rotation). With the plane set properly, shoot the Cannon on the shelf. The ball will bounce off the present, on the trampoline, and into the bombing bay of the plane. Re-launch the plane, then try to aim for it over the ball shooter. This may take some timing again because of the delay, but once you do that, you will succeed in saving Christmas, one way or another.
