I'm pretty sure you have to actually hit the pitch out of the park for a home run for this achievement, as opposed to bunting for one in two player mode that can get a lot of the other home run achievements out of the way.
What I did was hold up on the control stick before the pitch the computer pitched to me. Waited for the pitch and pressed B while holding up when the ball reached a sweet spot and this almost guarentees a home run. Obviously you want to be attempting this with a player that 4 star power or higher (5 preferred).
Pretty soon you'll be hitting homers left and right in story mode if you have all the all-stars as well! So don't worry too much, it's just about practice and patience at first.
