In the first world in the middle of the level select there is a small rack with knives in it, go there and buy one.

Not sure if this has been updated since the game released, but you need to have 7 Collectable points(from collecting those black and white Yin/Yang(?) diamonds and finishing the level successfully after) to unlock any of the upgrades.

You should add you need 7 collectables to aquire a modification, also mention that you should wait until you have 15 collectables on hand before upgading as the achievement for that is missable.

I advise you to first unlock The Collector achievement, and then purchase any other sword or dagger for 7 spheres, and the trophy is yours
