Make sure you gamble away ALL OF YOUR INVENTORY.
You want a EMPTY inventory before you hit the road with Krista.
When you encounter the Raccoon Kid. He will try to rob you. Via the Dialogue, LET HIM ROB YOU. You will tell him you have nothing to give.
