To get a perfect start... just hit the 
button after the starting countdown when the green light flashes. You do not have to be perfect as the game is quite generous in the time frame you are given. Just don't hit it early. Counting down and trying to time your press wont work as there is a delay after the 3 red lights before the green light flashes, but if you just hover your finger and press it immediately after you actually see the green light, it should work 90% of the time.
