Most Mobile Suits will also unlock a unique pilot for them when you collect all the parts needed to develop them. I say most, because some pilots can operate more than one Mobile Suit. Shiro Amada for example can pilot the RX-79[G] as well as the Ez8, and Amuro can pilot the RX-78-2 Gundam and the RX-93 ν Gundam.
In order to develop a particular Mobile Suit and unlock it for use and its pilot as a partner, you need to collect the parts necessary for it. This is easier said than done for some units that will require you to reach the 6th Directory of the story in order to collect all the necessary parts, whereas some Mobile Suits only require a single part to unlock them and are awarded for simply clearing a story mission the first time, or are awarded for clearing a particular mission with an allied Mobile Suit. For many of these, you'll need to explore the Break and Chaos versions of missions to track down specific enemy Mobile Suits and defeat them in order to get them to drop their part.
One example of this would be Char, you first unlock him as a partner by unlocking the Hyaku Shiki from Zeta Gundam by clearing a mission from Directory 4, but to unlock the Z'Gok you'll need to play a minimum of three separate missions from several Directories. As long as any Mobile Suit they can pilot is unlocked, you will unlock them as a partner for this Achievement. Shiro Amada for example will be unlocked as a partner so long as you unlock either the RX-79[G] OR the Ez8, you don't have to unlock both...but the Ez8 is a very useful and powerful Mobile Suit so you'll want to unlock it anyway.
When you're on the mission select screen, you can press X to see the Mobile Suit parts that can be unlocked for a particular stage and how many are needed for that particular suit. Remember, most Mobile Suits will unlock a unique pilot, so the more suits you have unlocked the more partners you'll have available. You'll have enough options available to unlock this Achievement by the time you reach Directory 5. Also be aware that you do not need to clear missions on the highest available difficulty for Mobile Suit parts to drop from bosses.
