If you feel like you should have popped this but haven't, I recommend checking Basalt Island (Sulfuric Basin) first. This is where the bread-baking volcano was, but that segment of the game is so heavily guided that you don't really get the chance to explore and find the lake, so you have to make a concerted effort to go back to that island for fishing. Everything else I feel like you come across pretty naturally, as long as you're being vigilant.

Are all fishes available on every fishing spot? Are there different rods available? How can you keep track of the fishes already captured? Do the fishes respawn?

1. No.
2. Don’t know but haven’t run into anything of the sort 12 hours in.
3. The types cannot be tracked outside memory (just clean out each fishing spot instead to make it easier), but the number of fish types you’ve caught can be tracked once you get the boat and with it the Feats book. That however takes a good while to get.
4. 99.99% yes. Never checked but it would be stupid to not be the case.

You're going to get some downvotes on this without listing each fishing spot and the species available. Might want to add them; just a suggestion.

All fish respawn when you reenter the pond. @ICE Faux Pirate, Thanks for the suggestion, I'll update the guide.

When you get your fishing hut in Mirth you can check what fish you have there.

When you get the Falcon-Eyed Parrot (by turning in Rainbow Conch), it will add a feature to the overworld map (while sailing your ship) that will indicate items or activities you've missed for each island on the overworld map. You just have to hover over the island and press A. This includes fishing areas that you've not yet completed.

There is also a sign next to each dock that fills in a picture of every species caught at that hole. if the board is full with no outlines you’ve caught all the different species at that hole.

Once you have fishing hut in Mirth open, the guy in there will upgrade your fishing rod based on the number of different fish you've caught.

This will make getting the last few *much* easier.

Fishing is pretty simple in this game. You will cast with button-a.png (hold it down to send the line farther out into the water), and then move the line left and right in the water and hold button-a.png once again to reel it back in toward you until a fish latches on. From there, keep "steering" the fish left and right to keep it in the highlighted zone, which looks like a patch of sunlight on the water, and keep reeling it in until you bring the fish onto the dock. If you spend too much time outside of the highlighted zone, your line will begin to break (you'll see it turn red) and eventually it can snap. If the fish jumps out of the water you can press button-a.png while it is in the air to stun it and reel it in quite a ways before it recovers.

Each fishing zone will be marked on the overworld by a small pond with a fish jumping out of it, so they're quite obvious. Inside you will find a board next to the dock which shows the types of fish that can be caught there. They will be blank but show the outline of the fish until you catch it, then the board will fill in with the full picture of the fish and its name. You will not be able to catch some fish without upgrades to your rod and line, which can be obtained from the Fishing Master in Mirth (see Home Neat Home (15G) for more info on getting the Fishing Hut). Once you have caught 4 fish, you get a stronger line, 9 fish for a faster reel, and 14 fish for a stronger reel to deplete a fish's stamina more quickly.

Below are all the fishing zones and which fish can be caught there.

  • Sunglow Lake: Lunar Trout, Man O’ War
  • Windy Loch: Grass Haddock, Hardshell, Lunar Trout
  • Lavish Lake: Hardshell, Man O’ War, Grass Haddock
  • Haunted Creek (inside the Abandoned Wizard’s Lab): Lunar Trout
  • Haunted Creek (on Wraith Island): Spectral Eel, Ghosturgeon, Bone Pike
  • Settler’s Rest: Crimson Bass, Seakjaw, Hardshell, Grass Haddock
  • Sulfuric Basin: Rock Shrimp, Lava Koi
  • Watcher’s Pond: Fluorescent Piranha, Crimson Bass, Sun Carp, Viridian Lobster
  • Lake Turquoise: Clockwork Crab, Fluorescent Piranha, Swordfish, Ninja Starfish
  • Skybound Lagoon: Sky Urchin, Cloud Skate, Ninja Starfish
  • Cerulean Reservoir: Laser Burbot, Coil Flounder, Cybernardl Hermite, Silicium Sponge
Once you have caught all 23 unique fish, the achievement will unlock.

You can consider this as another collectables-related trophy. There are a total of 23 fishses around the world that can be catch. You can fish on the fishing lakes you will find in your world map.

Once you find a new lake, go there and start fishing. In the right side of the lake, you will see a sign telling you wich species you will find in the lake and if you already catched them.

Once you open the fishing post in Myrth, you can speak with the shopkeeper in order to improve your fishing rod.

Each reservoir has a sign with the type of fish living there, if you caught it, it will be displayed on it!
